GRACE NIX MEECE

LIBERTY — Grace Nix Meece, 81, loving wife to George Meece, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, at her home.

Born Aug. 13, 1943, in Pickens County, Grace was the daughter of the late Charlie T. Powell and Edith Brown Powell. Mrs. Meece enjoyed traveling and especially liked going to the beach. She enjoyed fishing and crocheting. She loved her friends and family dearly.

Survivors include her husband, George Meece of Liberty; daughter, Gail Browning (Roger) of Liberty; loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Senter, Patricia Morgan (Jeff) and Lillian Powell; stepmother, Catherine Powell Stephen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Meece was predeceased by two sons, Dean Nix and Donald Nix; a daughter, Wanda Jean Nix; and 11 siblings.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 15 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed the service at the Secona Baptist Church cemetery in Pickens.

MICHAEL L. CORN

EASLEY — Mr. Michael “Mike” Leroy Corn, 70, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Jess Corn and the late Ora Lee Fowler Corn, Mr. Corn was a graduate of Carolina High School and was a retired automobile technician from White Horse Garage.

Mike loved fishing and golfing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He will be dearly missed by all that loved and knew him.

Surviving are his daughter, Kristin McCarson (Josh) of Easley; his brother, Branson Westmoreland (Jeri) of Greenville; and his two grandchildren, Landon and Ansley McCarson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Corn was predeceased by a sister, Brenda.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 17 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

REV. J. H. HAMMOND

EASLEY — Rev. J.H. Hammond, 90, loving husband to the late Betty Joyce Hammond, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family.

Born June 1, 1934, in Newnan, Ga., Rev. J.H. was the son of the late Bennie Lee Hammond and Georgia Ida Hammond. He was a retired minister for the Church of God. He loved the Lord and loved his cowboy hat and boots. He loved his horse Goldie and loved his western wear. He loved to preach in his cowboy boots and loved to preach the gospel. He became an exhorter for the church of God on Dec. 3, 1958, at the age of 24. He later received his ordained minister’s license on Dec. 20, 1960.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandy Capell (Mike) of Easley; four grandchildren, Shane Hammond (Brooke), Justin Hammond, Julie Collins (Vic) and Ethan Capell (Victoria); five great-grandchildren, Austin Hammond, Cole Hammond, Adrianna Hammond, Kiri Collins and Jacob Collins; and a sister, Maggie Sewell.

In addition to his wife and parents, Rev. Hammond was predeceased by a son, Sam Hammond, and a daughter-in-law, Martha Hammond.

A graveside service was held on Nov. 16 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Rev. J.H.’s honor may be made to Travelers Rest Church of God, P.O. Box 239, Travelers Rest, SC 29690.

SPENCER PARRISH WILLIAMS

PICKENS — Spencer Parrish Williams, 41, passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, at his home.

Born Feb. 4, 1983, in Juneau, Ala., Spencer was the son of the late Monty David Williams and Tena Louise Parrish Williams. Mr. Williams was a highly decorated U.S. Army veteran. His awards and decorations include the Iraq Campaign Medal with three Campaign Stars, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award). After serving in the Army, Spencer worked as a crane operator and truck driver. He enjoyed bonfires, traveling, spending time on the lake boating, shooting his gun, riding his Harley and, most of all, loved hanging out with his kids.

Survivors include his two daughters, Lily Rivera of Central and A.J. Williams of Pickens; two sons, Gabriel Williams and Jackson Williams, both of Pickens; siblings, Kimberlyn Willimas of Magna, Utah, Leslie Dawn Williams of Magna, Utah, Raianna Coton (Matt) of Lehi, Utah, Lettie Margaret Baker (Stephen) of Reno, Nev., Evelyn Brooke D’Argy (Jeff) of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Veronica Brandt (Robert) of Virginia Beach, Va., Karlesa Rumflet-Jones (Nathan) of Wasilla, Ark., and Kareena McGurgan of Wasilla, Ark.; and so many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson.

Flowers will be accepted.

JANICE SYLVIA BLEVINS

Pickens — Janice Sylvia Blevins, 79, loving wife to the late Melvin Blevins, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, at Manna Post Acute, surrounded by family.

Born Jan. 8, 1946, in Avery County, N.C., Janice was the daughter of the late Joe Clark and Ossie Webb Clark. She loved the Lord and her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a great cook, who loved to listen to Elvis and dance.

Survivors include a daughter, Rene Marsengill (Jim) of Liberty; a son, Freddy Aiken (Melissa) of Easley; four grandchildren, Jacob Dacus, Bradley Aiken, Dallas Aiken and Ashley Sentell; three great-grandchildren, Marty, Anslee and Skylar; and two sisters, Evelyn Hollifield of Spruce Pine, N.C., and Mae of California.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Blevins was predeceased by 11 siblings.

The family will hold a memorial service in North Carolina at a later date.

RUTH BAILEY MASSINGALE

PICKENS — Ruth Bailey Massingale, 86, loving wife to the late Elmer Allen Massingale, passed away on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at her home.

Born April 11, 1938, in Pickens, Ruth was the daughter of the late James Major Bailey and Louise Bailey. She loved gardening, shopping, thrift stores and interior decorating. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Lollis (Lewis) of Pickens; a son, Mike Massingale of Pickens; granddaughter, Ashley Harbin (Jason); and two great-grandchildren, Elijah Harbin and Jacob Harbin, all of Pickens.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Massingale was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Paul Massingale; a sister, Lavonia Pittman; and brothers, James Ray Bailey, Bob Bailey, David Bailey, Dean Bailey and Wayne Bailey.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 20 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations in Ruth’s honor may be made to Dream Center — Pickens, 529 Hampton Ave., Pickens, SC 29671.

WILLIAM DAVID ELLISON

EASLEY — Mr. William “David” Ellison, 79 husband of Linda “Sue” Freeman Ellison, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Nov. 15, 2024.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Cecil Elmer Ellison and the late Anita Jones Ellison, Mr. Ellison was a retired maintenance supervisor at BASF with 33 years of service. He was a longtime member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.

David loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and loved and adored his family, especially spending time with them. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and Clemson football. David will be dearly missed by all that loved and knew him.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 59 years, are his son, William “Brian” Ellison (Carol) of Easley; his daughter, April Ellison Tolley (Scott) of Easley; a brother, J.M. Ellison (Bonnie) of Easley; four grandchildren, Abbey LeClair (J.D.), Will Ellison, Ellison Tolley and Hutch Tolley; and one great-grandchild on the way.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ellison was predeceased by a brother, Fred Ellison; and three sisters, Gertrude Powell, Sybil Ferguson and Margaret McClellan.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 at Lakeview Baptist Church in Pickens. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2-2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church, prior to the service.

MARGARET L. WHITTEN

PICKENS — Margaret L. Whitten, 92 went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, in Pickens County.

Born in Waterloo, she was the wife of the late Billy G. Whitten and daughter of Jessie J. and Jennie Mae Freeman.

Mrs. Whitten was retired from Milliken in Spartanburg. She was loved dearly by her children, grand and great-grands. Most anyone who met her loved her.

She had a smile that was contagious and could light up any room, and she would always make us laugh. She was very strong willed and full of life.

She loved spending time with family and loved to cook them a huge meal.

She is survived by her sister, Becky Smith of Abbeville. She was blessed with a daughter-in-law, Kathie Whitten, and predeceased by her daughter in-law, Lynn Whitten.

Her grandchildren are Dana Lester and husband Joe of Six Mile, Chris Whitten of Spartanburg, Jessica Whitten of Anderson, Josh Thomas (Tonya) of Waterloo and Stephen Whitten of Williamston.

She had many great-grandchildren, Bryan Lester (Kera), Chasity Lester, Katie Lester, Josalyn Lester, Caleb Whitten, Noah Thomas, Zoe Thomas, Autumn Thomas, Ricky Coe and Lalage Coe. She had two great-great grandchildren, Killian Moore and Brooklyn Collins.

She was predeceased by her children, Wanda Thomas, Bobby Whitten and Don Whitten.

JONATHAN THOMAS GOODMAN

PICKENS — Jonathan Thomas Goodman, 41, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

Jonathan graduated from Pickens High School in 2001. He was most recently employed with Guardian Fueling Technologies.

Jonathan is survived by his mother, Cathy Dianne Goodman; brother, Josh Goodman; brother, Patrick Goodman; and grandmother, Sue Hawkins Goodman.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, Deryl Eugene Goodman; great-grandmother, Louise Goodman; great-grandfather, Rudolph Eugene Goodman Sr.; and grandfather, Rudolph Eugene Goodman Jr.

PRESTON CRAWFORD

LIBERTY — Robert Preston Crawford, 17, of Liberty, was tragically taken from us on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Preston’s light was extinguished far too soon, leaving a deep sorrow in the hearts of his loved ones.

His life was taken by senseless violence, a cruel twist of fate that no one could have foreseen.

Throughout his short time on earth, he found joy in the simple things. He cherished moments spent with his friends, laughing and creating memories that will be treasured forever. His spirit was free, his heart open, and his presence brought warmth to those around him.

As we gather to mourn the loss of Preston, we also celebrate the light he brought into our lives. His laughter will echo in our memories, his kind heart will live on in our souls. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever remain a beacon of love and joy.

Those left to cherish his memory include his father, Jamie Crawford; his mother, Ginger Quinton (Darron); his siblings who he adored, Dalton Crawford, Christian Crawford (Chedan), Kimberly Crawford, Grant Crawford and Ava Quinton; grandparents, Melvin and Donna Crawford and Bobby and Lisa Hendrix; his aunts, Angel Giles (Scott), Kim Malone and Jewel Atkins (Douglas) and many friends.

A visitation to honor Preston’s life will be held on Nov. 21, at the Liberty Mortuary from 4p.m. until 6 p.m.

May we find comfort in the memories we hold dear and may Preston’s spirit find peace in the eternal embrace of the universe. Rest easy and know that you will always be loved and remembered.

PATRICK MICHAEL PICHICHERO SR.

EASLEY — Patrick Michael Pichichero Sr., 95, of Easley, husband of Susan Pichichero, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2024.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Carlo and Assunta Pichichero. A member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Patrick lived his life guided by faith and devotion to family. He was also a historian at heart, penning The Pichichero Family, a book celebrating his family’s genealogy and ensuring their legacy would endure for generations.

After serving honorably in the U.S. Navy for four years, including time with the occupation force following World War II, Patrick began a lifelong career in the airline industry.

As a dedicated manager for T.W.A. Airlines, he not only excelled in his profession but also met the love of his life, Susan.

They married in 1968 and shared a beautiful partnership traveling the world and settling in Easley, South Carolina.

Patrick was a man of many talents and passions. His love for woodworking and carpentry was evident in the meticulous pieces he crafted—pens, furniture, flag holders, and other creations that showcased his skill and care. These hobbies were a reflection of his patience, precision, and artistry.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Patrick Michael Pichichero, Jr..; two daughters, Susan Cacciola and Grace Mary Crean, and several grandchildren and great – grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Pichichero and Louis Pichichero; a sister, Mary Varricchio and one grandchild.

A service celebrating Patrick’s life will be held in the Chapel of Reflection in Robinson Memorial Gardens on Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. with a visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org/give.html.
