HAROLD PATTEN WELBORN SR.

PICKENS —
Harold Patten Welborn Sr., 90, of Pickens, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 11, 2025.

Born on Dec. 4, 1934, in Pickens, Harold was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Una Kelley Welborn.

A devoted family man, Harold is survived by his two children, Catherine W. Ayers (Wayne) and Harold Patten (Pat) Welborn Jr. (Patti); four grandchildren, Emily Knowles (Jon), Kevin Welborn (Candace), Kaycee Collins and Kelley McGaha (Matthew); and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Knowles, Alexander Knowles, Tanaleigh Smith, Jackson Welborn, Henry Welborn, Sophie Welborn and Ivy-Claire McGaha.

Harold was a lifelong resident of Pickens, where he worked as an entrepreneur and farmer, carving out a legacy of hard work and perseverance. Although disabled from his time with the South Carolina Health Department, his entrepreneurial spirit never wavered. His life was marked by his deep faith, and he took great pride in being a faithful servant of the Lord, finding joy in living out the teachings of Jesus Christ. He was a proud member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Harold was immensely proud of his family, and his love for them was evident in everything he did. His devotion to family, faith and hard work will remain an inspiration to all who knew him. His kind heart, humility and steadfast love will be greatly missed.

Harold was also predeceased by his parents, Henry Welborn and Buna Patten Welborn; and his brothers, John Welborn, Fred Welborn and Henry Welborn.

In addition to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he is survived by his sisters, Sarah Rampey (James), Frances Welborn, Ruth Clark (Larry) and Clova Vaughan (Scooter); sisters-in-law, Barbara Welborn and Clara Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m. Jan. 16 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gideons International of Pickens, P.O. Box 1538, Pickens.

DANIEL ELLENBURG

LIBERTY — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Cleveland Ellenburg, a beloved husband, father, brother and papa, on Jan. 9, 2025, at the age of 69.

Born on April 30, 1955, in Central, he was the widower of Sheila Chapman Ellenburg and a son of the late David “D.C.” and Louise Carver Ellenburg.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard, a chapter of his life that he carried with pride. He dedicated many years to working as a C&C machine operator at Ohio Gear.

His greatest achievements were his two sons, Jason Ellenburg and David “Monty” Ellenburg (Brittany).

He also cherished his three loving grandchildren, Natalie, Gavin and Ashlynn. Also surviving is his brother, Bobby Carver.

His family was his pride and joy, and he loved nothing more than spending quality time with them.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Joe Ellenburg.

He was an avid USC Gamecocks fan, cheering for his team with an enthusiastic spirit. His love for music filled his home with the timeless sounds of Elvis Presley, while his evenings were often spent watching classic Westerns, enjoying the stories and characters that defined an era.

Funeral services to honor and celebrate his life and that of his wife, Sheila, will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. They will be laid to rest together at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

SHEILA ELLENBURG

LIBERTY — It is with both heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Sheila Ellenburg, a beloved wife, mother, sister and nana, who peacefully left us on Jan. 1, 2025, at the age of 67.

Born on Jan. 13, 1957, in Pickens, to the late Elzie and Louise Roper Chapman, Sheila brought joy and laughter to everyone she met during her life.

Sheila was a devoted homemaker, but had previously worked at Dayco and Cornell Dubiler.

Her greatest achievements were her two sons, Jason Ellenburg and David “Monty” Ellenburg (Brittany). She was a loving wife to her husband, Daniel Cleveland Ellenburg for more than 50 years, and a cherished sister to Bethel Davis, Ethel Stephens and Tony Chapman (Debbie). She also cherished her three loving grandchildren, Natalie, Gavin and Ashlynn. Her family was her pride and joy, and she loved nothing more than spending quality time with them.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Judy Bates.

An avid fan of the Gamecocks, Sheila’s spirit shone brightest during game days, where her enthusiasm was infectious. She had a special love for animals and found joy in their company, treating each one as a member of her family.

Funeral services to honor and celebrate her life and that of her husband, Daniel, will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. They will be laid to rest together at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

BETTY D. HARDY

PICKENS — Betty D. Hardy, 92, wife of the late Norval Hardy, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at her home.

Betty was born in Oxford, England on Aug. 6, 1932, to the late Thomas Alex Onion and Eva Amelia Cummings Onion. She was a First Lady soprano opera singer and sang with Gilbert and Sullivan Co. in Oxford in the early ‘50s and was one of the first female soloists to sing with the Oxford Welsh Glee Singers before she migrated to the United States and married Norval in 1959. Since then over the years she has blessed many people singing solos praising her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her children, Norval Hardy (Jean) of Easley, Norayne Hardy of Pickens and Noreva Humphrey of Mauldin; grandchildren, Amber, Andrea, Kandi, Amelia, Hillary, Aaron, Dylan, Bailey, Cydney and Eva; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, parents, and a daughter, Norlynn Hardy.

The family will hold a memorial service at 1 p.m. Jan. 25 in the sanctuary of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Easley.

BRANDON ‘BRANDO’ DALE WHITMIRE

PICKENS — Brandon “Brando” Dale Whitmire, 39, loving husband of 22 years to Lena Sue Whitmire, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.

Born on Nov. 1, 1985, in Easley, Brandon was the son of Wendy Tinsley and the late Marty Dale Whitmire. Brandon loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He loved his wife Sue so much, along with his daughters, Little BB, Kansy Corn Sue Dee and Little Sissy.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Sue Whitmire of the home; daughters, McKinsey Marie Sue Whitmire, Breana Nicole Whitmire and Hannah Grace Whitmire, all of Pickens; mother, Wendy Tinsley (Duane) of Morganton, N.C.; stepmother, Angie Whitmire of Pickens; sisters, Chelsea Lesley (Shaun) of Ayden, N.C., Samantha Tinsley of Easley and Cherub Deck (Chase) of Rutherford, N.C.; brothers, Jeremy Whitmire of Liberty, Jonathan Whitmire of Morganton, N.C., Charlie Tinsley (Brittany) of Marion, N.C., Joshua Tinsley of Morganton, N.C., and Kendrick Tinsley of Morganton, N.C.; stepsister, Jessica Williams (T.J.); stepbrother, Justin Smith; father-in-law who Brandon thought the world of, Marshall Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Whitmire was predeceased by his father, Marty Dale Whitmire.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 12:30-2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Roanoke Baptist Church in Liberty, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow the service in Roanoke Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted.

MAUDE TODD

PICKENS — It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Maude Marie Todd, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, who left us peacefully on Jan. 6, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born on Sept. 14, 1938, in Six Mile, she was a daughter of the late William P. and Clara Holder Kelley.

She spent her life in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain region, growing roots in Pickens, where she nurtured her family and cultivated her passions. Maude cherished her role as a homemaker, pouring love into her family and instilling in them the values of kindness and togetherness.

An avid reader of romance novels, Maude found joy in the stories that could whisk her away to different worlds. When not lost in a book, she could be found tending to her garden, planting vibrant flowers that mirrored her warm personality. Those who knew her will remember her infectious laughter, caring nature and the way she could make everyone feel at home.

She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Evelyn Powell (Robert) and Tammy Patterson; and four sons, William Todd, Allen Todd, Harold Todd (Donna) and Calvin Todd (Janice). Each of her children carries a piece of her spirit and unwavering love, and her legacy will forever shine brightly through them. Also surviving are a sister, Ruby Todd; four brothers, Marvin, William, Fred and Richard Kelley; seven grandchildren, Lisa LaBrecque (Shawn), Christopher Powell (Tiffany), Crystal Patterson (Kenny), Tracy Belcher (Cory), Steven Todd (Haley), Shona Watkins (Matt) and Joseph Todd (Chelsea); and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Terry Patterson; a son-in-law, Phillip Patterson; and numerous siblings.

Graveside services to honor Ms. Todd’s life were conducted on Jan. 9 at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Though Maude may have departed from this world, her love, laughter and the beautiful memories shared together will remain etched in our hearts forever. LOUISE HARRISON

CLEMSON — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Louise Gravley Harrison, a beloved mother, friend and cherished member of our community, who left us peacefully on Dec. 28, 2024, at the age of 84.

Born on June 18, 1940, in Liberty, she was the widow of Jim Harrison and a daughter of the late Walter Carey Gravley and Lillie Gilstrap Gravley Bryant.

A proud graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1959, Louise dedicated herself as a devoted homemaker, finding joy in the everyday moments of family life. Her home was filled with the fragrance of her favorite baked goods and the beauty of her lovingly tended gardens. She had a creative heart, finding solace in painting and expressing her thoughts through poetry, which she often shared with those close to her.

She is survived by her loving children, Rev. Regina Harrison, Russ Harrison (Lyn), Rob Harrison (Beth) and Joseph Harrison (Sara), who carry her memory and values in their hearts. She is also survived by a brother, Walter Carroll Gravley; 10 grandchildren, Zach Shaw (Taryn), Abby Lee-Zampi (Chiah), Brittany Harrison, Samantha Shaw Morales (Adrian), Allie Boland (Jake), Madison Harrison, Alex DiLeo, Sydney Harrison, Zoey Harrison and Jack Harrison; and five great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Sammy, Rhodes, Sophia and Nova.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Martha Pace, Avanelle Gaunce, Faye Sanders and Mac Gravley.

Private graveside services will be held at Liberty Memorial Gardens at a later date.

JOHN G. WEST

EASLEY — John G. West, 78, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, at his home in Easley.

John was born on Aug. 7, 1946, to the late Everett West and Bernice Piper West.

He was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. He was one of 13 children, a fan of science fiction, and loved anything technical including computers in his later years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War.

John is survived by his daughters, Janie West and Kathy McRae (Charles), both of Easley; grandchildren, Dylan, Judson and Elena; a great-grandchild, Eleyana; a sister, Ruth Hust of California; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and 11 of his siblings.

A special thank you to Family Hospice for the special care given to dad, especially Paula Smith, June Scruggs, Paul Jagoe, Cindy Vanhoy and Felicia Russell.

Memorials can be made in John’s honor to Smith Grove Baptist Church, 1220 Smith Grove Road, Liberty.

THOMAS HAYWARD HOLCOMBE

SIX MILE — Thomas Hayward Holcombe, of Six Mile, born Oct. 16, 1942, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 7, 2025, surrounded by family at his home.

Tommy was 82 years old and the loving husband of 60 years to Nancy Durham Holcombe. They have one son, Thomas Brian Holcombe.

He was the son of the late Hayward Thomas and Margaret Gillespie Holcombe.
Thomas worked at local cotton mills and retired from Libco Carpet Mill in Liberty. He was in the military for 28 years.

After he retired, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
He became a Christian at Mile Creek Baptist Church. He loved to work for God and others. He went on a mission trip to Haiti with local churches. He was a member for many years. He served as a deacon and leader in the church. After becoming disabled, he started studying the Bible with Shepherds Chapel in Gravette, Ark.

His favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting and watching the Clemson Tigers.

Survivors include Nancy and Brian Holcombe of the home; and brothers, Lee Holcombe of Liberty and Ernie Holcombe of Pickens.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Dodgens and Patsy Howard; and a brother, Marion Holcombe.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 14 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Holcombe to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

WILLIAM ‘WILL’ CHAPMAN

PICKENS — William “Will” Chapman, 76, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born Nov. 21, 1948, in Pickens County, Will was the son of the late Fred Chapman and Grace Dodgens Chapman. He worked in the timber industry most of his working career. Will was a very simple man who loved his siblings. He was the last of his 12 siblings.

Survivors include his life partner, Ann Kilgen of Pickens; daughter, Melinda Chapman of Central; granddaughter, Samantha George of Pickens; great-grandson, Prince; and special nieces, Rebecca and Melissa.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was predeceased by all 11 of his siblings.

Funeral services took take place on Jan. 10 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed the service at Holly Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Will’s honor may be made to Pruitt Health Hospice, 163 Love and Care Road, Six Mile.

YOLANDA JANE GARCIA GOODWIN

EASLEY — Yolanda Jane Garcia Goodwin, 40 passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024.

Yolanda was an Army veteran and served in Iraq.

She enjoyed painting, dancing, singing, spending time at the lake and walking to explore different places. She loved her boys more than anything and was a gentle soul. Yolanda was always willing to lend a hand. Even when she did not have much, she would share it with you.

Her final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ donation. She was well loved by many and had a heart of gold. Forever our angel, our hero.

Yolanda is survived by her husband, Roger Goodwin of Travelers Rest; two sons, Isaiah Garcia and Brandon Goodwin, both of Travelers Rest; father and stepmom, Daniel and Amanda Garcia of Flat Rock; brother, Ernesto Trevino (Janette) of Midland; sister, Vanessa Garcia of Anderson; and brother, Daniel Garcia (Charlotte) of Hendersonville. She also leaves five nieces; four nephews; five aunts; five uncles; and numerous cousins to cherish her memory.

Yolanda was preceded in death by her grandpa, Luis Garcia; grandma, Emma Hudgins; grandpa, Leroy Hudgins; and mom, Loretta Garcia.

A committal service for Yolanda will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson.

NANCY ANN BALDWIN

CLEVELAND — Nancy Ann Baldwin of Cleveland passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, in Landrum.

Born on Sept. 20, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy was the daughter of the late Michael and Eleanor Slater. Nancy and her late husband, Robert E. “Ed” Baldwin Jr. were the owners of Baldwin Antiques in Social Circle, Ga., for many years. They traveled to many states in search of good pieces of furniture, pottery and quilts. In addition to finding antiques and collectibles, Nancy was an avid reader, belonged to the Social Circle Garden Club, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. She loved the people and the town of Social Circle.

Survivors include her son, Michael Goldsmith (Nancy) of the home; her daughter, Linda Goldsmith of Cullowhee, N.C.; niece, Nancy Foster (John Barry); grandchildren, Jake Sutton (Laura), David Goldsmith, Jesse Pruitt, Katie Bryson (Kyle), Shay Lossiah (Kirk); and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Foster.

The family wishes to thank Agape Care of South Carolina for their kindness and assistance over the past months.

The family will host a memorial service in Social Circle at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorials be made to the Carnation Foundation, Agape Care Group, 187 North Church, Suite 201, Spartanburg.

TUESDEY ELAINE HENDERSON

PICKENS — Tuesdey Elaine Henderson, 35, loving wife of 19 years to William Henderson, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, at AnMed Medical Center in Anderson.

Born on May 1, 1989, in Greenville County, Tuesdey was the daughter of Christine Owen Harris and the late Phillip Milton Harris. Mrs. Henderson enjoyed playing the drums and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, William Henderson of the home; son, Kurt Henderson of the home; sister, Sunshine Harris of Pickens; special niece, Macie McLaughlin; great-niece, Hadlee Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Henderson was predeceased by her father, Phillip Milton Harris.

The family will receive family and friends at their home at a later date.

CYNTHIA ‘CINDY’ MISHAEL PEACE (RAMPEY)

PICKENS — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cynthia “Cindy” Mishael Peace (Rampey), who departed this life on Jan. 4, 2025.

Born on May 10, 1978, in Memphis, Tenn., to parents Bruce E. Rampey and Beth Kelley McGee, Cindy graced this world with her boundless love, compassion and unwavering strength.

Cindy’s life was a testament to kindness and generosity. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen, heard and valued.

Her infectious laughter and warm spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark that will be cherished forever.
A devoted wife, mom, daughter, sister and friend, Cindy’s legacy of love, resilience and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.

Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in the assurance she is with the Lord and the beautiful memories and the love she shared so freely.

Cindy’s light will continue to shine brightly in our lives, a beacon of hope and resilience in the face of adversity, and a reminder of the beauty of a life well lived.

Cindy is survived by her beloved husband, Mark Peace; son and daughter-in-love, Tyler and Emily Peace; father and stepmom, Bruce and Janna Rampey; mother, Beth McGee; grandmother, Bobbie Kelley; sister and brother-in-law, Chris and Tricia Gill; nephew, Keaton Gill; great-nephew, Kohen Gill; brother and his wife, Jonathan and Carrie Rampey; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly. We will honor her memory by carrying forward her spirit of compassion and love.

A celebration of Cindy’s life was held on Jan. 9 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

MARTHA ANN BURGESS

PICKENS — Martha Ann Maddox Burgess, 79, wife of the late Gary Eugene Burgess went home to be with her lord and savior on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Martha was born July 12, 1945, in Augusta, Ga., a daughter of the late Lawrence Sanford and Martha Boyett Maddox. She was retired from Ryobi Motor Products, now OWT Industries, and was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and her husband Gary, Martha was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Earl Maddox, Mayoma Whitmire, Juanita Bell, Beatrice Stuckey and Marvin Maddox, making her the last surviving member of her generation.

Survivors include her children, Joyce Dodgens (Richard), Anita Pinkston (Robert), Scott Burgess (Angie) and Wendy Wilson (Kelly); grandchildren, Jonathan Dodgens (Hope), Rebecca Meyers (Justin), Tara McGowan (Daniel), Kelly Porter, Oceana Burkhalter, Reeci Bryant (Josh) and Caylee Burkhalter; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Jan. 15 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Joey Capps and Rev. James Dyar officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Gary at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Family members will gather at their respective homes.

MORRIS ALLAN BROWN

DACUSVILLE — Mr. Morris Allan Brown, 68, of Hester Store Road, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, after a 15-year battle with prostate cancer.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Ralph Bailey Brown and the late Mary Bernice Spearman Brown. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Brown and Jerry Brown.

Morris loved to hunt and work the garden on his farm. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Surviving are two sisters, Linda Dale Chandler (Edward) of Marietta and Mary Jane Metcalf (Wayne) of Asheville N.C.; and his twin brother, Mark Elliot Brown (Sandy) of Dacusville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 16 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. Roger Todd officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.

MARGARET PAULINE SOULSBY

LIBERTY — Margaret Pauline Soulsby, 74, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, surrounded by family.

Born on March 13, 1950, in Hooper’s Creek, N.C., Margaret was the daughter of the late Henry Claude Keeter and Lottie Calton. Ms. Soulsby worked as a manager at many local Dollar Generals. She loved working in her yard and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her significant other, Howard Cauley of Liberty; children, Connie Clark (Russel) of Westminster, Charles “Charlie” Owens (Sherry) of Easley, Claudette Renee Frazier of Liberty and Anita Painter Rogers (Larry) of Pickens; grandchildren, Traci, Cody, Michael, Stephanie, Megan, Parker, Drake, Stacy, Anthony, Taylor and Jordon; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Tristan, Kaylie, Alex, Koda, Zachary, Haven, Hunter, Rylan, Jenna, Mason, River, Raelyn, Creed, Wren and Luis; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Soulsby was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth, and her siblings, Ruby, Bonnie, Betty and Cathy.

Visitation will be held from 5-5:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens, with a memorial service to follow at 5:30 p.m.

KATHLEEN MAE TEGEN

CENTRAL — Kathleen Mae Roach Tegen, 101, widow of Rev. Dr. Charles R. Tegen, passed away peacefully at the home of her son, Timothy, in Liberty.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she left behind a legacy of faith, service and love.

Kathleen was born on March 10, 1923, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Duston Z. and Viola (Lewis) Roach. She was the eldest of seven siblings. During the Great Depression, her family moved to a farm near Heflin, Ala., and later to Birmingham, Ala., during her teen and young adult years.

She attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio. At age 22, Kathleen married her sweetheart, Charles R. Tegen, and together they served in ministry at several district churches in the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Alabama. In 1958, they continued their ministry at First Wesleyan Church and Southern Wesleyan University in Central.

Kathleen was a dedicated pastor’s wife and a devoted member of First Wesleyan/Alive Wesleyan Church for more than 66 years, touching countless lives with her smile, wisdom and servant’s heart. Following her husband’s passing, she continued to support her community by serving at Southern Wesleyan University. She was admired for her loving spirit and unwavering faith, which were the cornerstones of her life.

Surviving are her three sons, Charles A. Tegen (Deanna) of Central, Timothy N. Tegen (Colleen) of Liberty, and Thomas R. Tegen (Susan) of Abilene, Texas; nine grandchildren, Laura Hedden, Matthew Tegen, Jason Tegen, Paul Tegen, Alicia Tegen Rios, Sarah Tegen, Travis Tegen, Garrett Tegen and Joshua Tegen; and 12 great-grandchildren, Reshma Tegen, Madelyn Hedden, Levi Tegen, Hannah Hedden, Lerah Tegen, Kathleen Tegen, Josephine Tegen, Luca Rios, Christopher Tegen, Evelyn Tegen, Lucina Tegen and Maya Tegen; and a brother, Phil (Sharon) Roach of Woodstock, Ala., and a sister, Ruth Neyman of Madison, Ala.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Anita R. Dowden, and her sibling,; John Roach, Paul Roach, David Roach and Helen Walker.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 9 at Alive Wesleyan Church in Central.

A graveside committal service will take place at noon Jan. 15 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Birmingham, Ala.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dowden-Tegen Memorial Scholarship at Southern Wesleyan University.

LARRY DEAN ‘L.B.’ BALLARD

PICKENS — Larry Dean “L.B.” Ballard, 69, loving husband of 28 years to Donna Logan Ballard, passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born June 23, 1955, in Buncombe County, N.C., Larry was the son of the late William Henry “Bill” Ballard and Katherine Robertson Ballard. Larry worked his career in aeronautics at Lockheed Martin in Greenville. He enjoyed sports, especially football and darts. He loved his family dearly.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Logan Ballard of the home; children, Seth Ballard of Anderson, Travis Ballard of Easley, Ryan Ballard of Easley and Amanda Kay of Six Mile; and a sister, Sandra White (Ray) of Easley.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ballard was predeceased by two brothers, Wayne Ballard and Kenny Ballard.
