Lisa Edith Roper Arnold

Easley — Lisa Edith Roper Arnold, age 50, wife of Jeffery Scott Arnold died Monday Sept. 2, 2013 at her home.

She was the daughter of Mary Edith Boswell Roper of Easley, and the late Hardy Roper, Jr. Mrs. Arnold was born Aug. 22, 1963 in Greenville. Mrs. Arnold was a member of Abundant Grace Church of God. She loved her family and also her pets.

Survivors include her husband, mother one brother; Mark Adcox and his wife Nancy of Greenville.

She was predeceased by her father and two brothers; James Michael Adcox and John Douglas Adcox.

Funeral Service was Thursday Sept. 5 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.

Entombment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mausoleum.

Ronny Marchbanks

 

Easley — Ronny Marchbanks, 66, of Thalia Lane, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Thomas and Evie Stone Marchbanks, Ronny was formerly co-owner of M&M Service Center and a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church where he belonged to the Auditorium Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Hooper Marchbanks of the home; a son, Michael Marchbanks (Jamie) of Easley; a daughter, Kim Camp (Robby) of Pickens; a brother, Wayne Marchbanks (Laverne) of Piedmont; a sister, Carol Phillips (Wylie) of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Logan Camp, Casey Sutherland and Katie Briggs Marchbanks; and his in-laws, Tilman and Christine Hooper of Easley.

In addition to his parents, Ronny was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Marchbanks.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Thursday at Jones Avenue Baptist Church. Burial, with military honors, followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Jackie T. Day

Easley — Jacqueline Townsend “Jackie” Day, 51, of Homestead Drive, died, Tuesday, Sept. 03, 2013.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of Jack and Florence Nalley Townsend of Easley. Jackie was a 1980 graduate of Easley High School and was employed with AFLAC as a sales associate and served as a South Carolina Cancer Center Ambassador. She was involved with the Relay For Life Cancer Walk in Pickens County for many years and was a member of Potter’s Clay Fellowship. She was a friend and inspiration to everyone.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffery Giguere and his extraordinary staff of The Cancer Center of the Carolinas in Seneca and Dr. John Cox and the staff of Baptist Easley Hospital for their exceptional care of Jackie.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of the home, Radford “Raddy” Day; her children, John Radford “Jack” Day and Rachel Briana Day; two sisters, Kathy T. Alwahab (Al) of Nashville, Tenn. and Suzanne Lee (David) of Columbia; and a brother, Stan Townsend (Dianne) of Mt. Pleasant.

A service to celebrate Jackie’s life was held on Friday Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Randall Dale Smith

Pickens — Mr. Randall Dale Smith, 56, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Carlos and Nellie Gilstrap Smith, Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two daughters, Tonya and Hope Taylor; three sisters, Gail Neal, Diane Richards and Lucille Talley; one brother, Ricky Smith; and one grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by three sisters, and two brothers.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in the Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.

Ruth G. Fowler

Liberty — Ruth Gilstrap Fowler, 85, of Liberty, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at Regency Hospital.

Born in Liberty she was the widow of Lee C. Fowler and a daughter of the late Leo and Mattie Pressley Gilstrap. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and gardening but above all else she loved to spend time with her family. She attended Smith Chapel Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are two sons and daughters in law, Stanley and Yvonne Fowler, and Randall and Gloria Fowler all of Liberty; five grandchildren, Stacey Kitchens, Stephanie Cope, Dustin Fowler, Amanda Fowler Young, and Lauren Fowler; three great grandchildren, Kristen and Zane Kitchens, and Charlotte Young.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Fowler were 2 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Westview Cemetery.

Leecie H. Baker

Pickens — Leecie Holcombe Baker, 101, of Holly Springs School Road, wife of the late Sam Baker, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at her home.

Born on Sept. 26, 1911 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Kay and Ida Gilstrap Holcombe. Mrs. Baker was a homemaker. She was a member of Pickens Independent Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class.

Surviving are her children, Merrill Baker (Gladys) of Liberty, Donnie Baker (Jean) of Easley, Joyce Jewell (Floyd) of Six Mile, Doris Bolding of Easley and Connie Baker of Liberty; 14 grandchildren, Debbie and Billy Lane, Jennie and Tab Murrell, Missy Baker, Nancy and Melvin Alexander, Kristi and Jamie Brock, Tammy and Kenny Duncan, Tina and Eddie Hudson, Karen and Larry Hodge, Andi and Scott Sheriff, Dawn and Chris Smith, Kevin Baker, the Rev. Gary and Jessica Edwards, Keith and Stephanie Edwards, and Lori and Bill Sembert; 27 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and two daughter-in-laws, Olene Baker of Pickens and Marion Baker of Easley. Also surviving are many special friends.

Mrs. Baker was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Charles Baker and Jimmy Baker and nine siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Jack Roper

 

Pickens — James Earl “Jack” Roper, 77, of 231 Henderson Street and husband of Joyce Fisher Roper, died Thursday Sept. 5, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Roper was born in Pickens County, the son of the late Dewey Henry and Ellen Tretha Chappell Roper. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War and retired after 22 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion and was a Baptist.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a brother, Lowell Roper, of Pickens; two sisters, Jeanette Fisher, of Piedmont and Faye McWhorter Bayne, of Sunset; several nieces and nephews, more than you can count, and was loved by many others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Spencer Roper, Charles Roper, W.T. Roper and Ray Roper; three sisters, Katherine Hendricks, Ruth Simmons and Tiney Roper.
Funeral services with full military honors were 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road.

Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Billy J. Boggs

Pickens — Billy John Boggs, 81, husband of Nellie Smith Boggs, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013.

Billy was born in Pickens County, a son of the late John C. and Avis Pauline Stanton Boggs. He was retired following 42 years service from The Singer Company (Ryobi) in Pickens as a supervisor and tool and die maker. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Pickens. Billy was an avid NASCAR fan and in earlier years built race car engines for local and NASCAR drivers. When Hinkles Jeep Club was in operation, he was an active member. Billy taught welding at the Pickens County Vocational School where he was always quick to share his talents with others.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nellie Smith Boggs, daughters, Sheila Garrison (Barry) of Dacusville, Carolyn Horn of Pickens and Kay Cole (Jimmy) of Easley. Grandchildren include Steve Crenshaw (Alicia), Mandy Durham (Steven), and John Horn (Amanda). Great grandchildren include Jordan Carter, Ethan Horn, Elijah Horn, Easton Horn, and Gracie Nell Crenshaw. Surviving also are sisters, Betty Hunter (Carl) of Greenville and Helen Garren of Spartanburg and brothers, Bobby Boggs (Bonnie) and Jack Boggs (Lynn) both of Pickens.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
