PICKENS — Pickens High School volleyball coach Jennifer Gravely loves the fall.

Not only is it the heart of the season, but on Sept. 24, her second romance novel will be released from Astraea Press.

Like her first book, a romantic suspense titled “Knight of the Dead,” out last summer, the newest work “Set to Love” also features the fictional Southern town of Keowee.

But in this novel Gravely draws from her coaching experience, and the plot revolves around winning a championship in volleyball and the relationship of the rival coaches.

For the volleyball lovers out there, “Set to Love” packs plenty of court action and philosophy.

“There’s a little piece of me in all the coaches, and the players could be any number of athletes I’ve had the pleasure to coach over the 10-plus years I’ve been at Pickens High School,” said Gravely.

For readers that adore romance, plenty of sweetness abounds as the heroine Randi Sly finds herself in the arms of the tall, blond, and handsome Blake Steele, the coach at region rival Saluda High School.

“That’s all make-believe,” the six-time Upper State Championship coach said with a laugh.

The story highlights the importance of being a positive role model, playing by the rules and winning the right way, with good sportsmanship and a strong work ethic. “Set to Love” focuses on being passionate and intense about the sport of volleyball and about each other.

“I hope, if anything, I’ve instilled in my players those qualities, for they in turn have given me inspiration and a belief that anything is possible with hard work and desire. They are all champions,” Gravely said.

“Set to Love” will be available at most online book sellers as an e-book on Sept. 24. You can also find Gravely at the following places or on the sideline for the Lady Blue Flame this season.
