Anniell R. Bevis

Clemson — Anniell Rudisill Bevis, 84, of 218 Duke Street and widow of John Henry Bevis, Jr. died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 at her home.

Born in Columbia she was a daughter of the late William B. and Annie Niell Rudisill.  Mrs. Bevis a homemaker, volunteer at Helping Hands and a member and volunteer with St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Surviving are four sons, John Henry “Jay” (Janis) Bevis of Valdese, N.C., William R. “Billy” (Lek) Bevis of Clemson, David “Ginger” Bevis, Goose Creek, and James (Perrin) Bevis of Clemson; four daughters, Beth (Mark) Jordan of Clemson, Barbara (Phill) Pearson of Greenville, Jeanne (Bill) Smart of Woodstock, Ga. and Judy (Alan) Diehl of Ardmore, Pa.; and 21 grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a son, Dan Bevis; three brothers, Bill Rudisill, Dan Rudisill and Zeb Rudisill; and one sister, Beth Tucker.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Old Stone Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pearlene Jones

Easley — Pearlene Robinson Jones, 72, of 702 West 5th Avenue, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 at the home of her daughter.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Sank and Hattie Nabors Robinson, Mrs. Jones was formerly employed with Milliken Corp. and Dot Hayes Beauty Shop. She was a member of Good News Fellowship in Easley.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Cecil Jones of the home; a son, Richard Jones and wife, Teresa, of Easley; daughter, Lisa Hendricks of Easley; grandchildren, Joshua Aiken, Kimberly Hendricks, Matthew Hendricks, and Sariah Jones; great-grandchildren, Jordan Aiken, Mercadies Aiken, Camron Aiken, Demetrius Edwards, and Joshua Smith; two brothers and six sisters.

Mrs. Jones was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Entombment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Delores Kimmey

Liberty — Mrs. Delores Kimmey, 76, wife of the late Joseph Patrick Kimmey, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Inverness, Fla., one of six children to the late Robert Joseph and Edna Lee Rooks Lane, Mrs. Kimmey was the former owner and operator of a skating center and campground in Texas, and was a member of the East Easley Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary LeGrand and her husband C. Jay LeGrand of Liberty; and two grandchildren, Gabrielle LeGrand, and Danielle Zecher and her husband Nick Zecher.

Funeral services were 12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Antoinette D. Ciufo

Central — Antoinette Lucy Denaro Ciufo died joining her husband, Philip, on Sept. 24, 2013 in Central.
Antoinette, born in Rochester, N.Y., was the first generation daughter of the late Italian immigrants, Maria (Gentile) and John Denaro.

She overcame poverty and language barriers to successfully finish high school, marry, and raise six children. Education was important to her so, in her mid 40’s Ann went to college and entered nursing school to become a nurse practitioner something she had always wanted to accomplish.

Ann, you will be sorely missed by your family and those that knew and loved you. You taught us well and were always there for us. God bless you always and forever.

She is survived by her six children: Philip (Nola), Kathy (Carl) Broman, Jim (Lynne), Tom (Laurie), Christine (Doug) Rybolt, and especially Gerald, her gift from God. Ann is also survived by nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were 11 a.m., Friday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central.

Entombment followed in the mausoleum at Memory Gardens, Clemson.

Charles Morris

Easley — Charles Wayne Morris, 72, husband of Nancy Patterson Morris died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Folger and Bernice McKinney Morris. Mr. Morris retired from Lindsay Oil Co. in Pickens and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 51 years, are two daughters, Sherry Lesley Pinion (Scott) and Kelly Morris Porter; three grandchildren, Mark Lesley (Hope), Kassidy and Zane Porter; one great–grandchild, Pressley Porter.

Graveside services were 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Jack Moore

 Easley — Jasper Doyle (Jack) Moore of Cedar Rock Church Road, Easley, beloved husband, father and grandfather died Sept. 27, 2013 at Easley Baptist Hospital. Born Dec. 23, 1931 in the Glenwood Mill community, Jack spent most of his life in Pickens County.

He attended Glenwood Elementary, Northside Elementary and Easley High School, where he played guard on the 1949 football team and graduated in 1951.

Jack saw a pretty prom queen walking toward Joe’s one day in the late 50s and turned his car around to meet her. He married that girl, Brenda Joyce (Joyce) McRee in 1960. Their 40 year marriage lasted until her death in 2000. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter Allison Ree Moore (Taylors, S.C.) in 1962. Jack and Mary Lorraine (Lorraine) Couch Hillyer had known one another all their lives.

They married in 2002, and happily became a grandfather to her four grandsons and two granddaughters. The children (Jacob Crosby, Mark Hillyer, MaryGrace Carter, Quentin Carter, Michaela Hillyer and Houston Miles) loved their Papa Jack. He tended to spoil them and they knew he’d always hand them a quarter for the gumball machine when they departed restaurants. But the time he spent with them meant more to them (and him) than anything money could buy.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953. He began his Army career in the 7th Division at Fort Jackson, was stationed in Hawaii in the 35th Infantry division. He discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant after spending time in Korea. Jack worked as an on-air disc jockey, sports announcer and salesperson for WELP from 1956 until 1985.

He assisted in forming the Green Wave Booster Club and could recall championship games by the score and the play.

He began a second career with The Easley Progress from 1985 until his retirement in 2001. At The Progress he worked in sales, distribution and photography.

He cared about and achieved results for his clients, counting them among his friends. His interest in photography led him to mentor younger staff members and continued throughout his retirement years. Jack, however, might best be known in Easley, and most of the state, as the proverbial oldest teenager and Hall of Fame shag deejay.

His music knowledge from the earliest years of Rock and Roll to today’s shag hits, made him a sought after music aficionado. He could really pack the dance floor. He last spun records on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Fat Harold’s for the Hall of Fame Dancers.

He held membership in the Easley Jaycees and the Lions Club, and was past president of the Exchange Club. He is a 12-degree Mason and a life-long member of Glenwood Baptist Church.

He was an active member of the Hall of Fame of the Association of Beach and Shag DeeJays and a member of the Easley High School athletic Hall of Fame. He was a member of several shag clubs, including the Electric City Shag Club of Anderson. He loved puttering around the log cabin in the woods, where he lived with Lorraine, and visiting record stores and pawn shops in search of the vintage vinyl records and new electronic gadgets.

He always had an interesting story or funny anecdote and took the time to get to know most everyone he met. He loved to attend shag events in Myrtle Beach and other locales across the state.

Jack is survived by Lorraine, wife; Allison, daughter; Dalton Moore of Greenville, brother; and Dorothy Adams of Easley, sister.

He is also survived by Lorraine’s children, Heidi Hillyer of Easley, Robin Hillyer-Miles (Ronnie) of Millington, Tenn., and Mike Hillyer (Lanie) of Easley. He will be missed by his extended family and numerous friends.

Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Hazel McCoy

Pickens — Hazel Mae Aiken McCoy, 77, widow of Donald E. “Dago” McCoy, passed from this life Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013.

Mrs. McCoy was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Merrimon and Vicie Gilstrap Aiken. She was a homemaker and a member of Rocky Bottom Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Pilgrim (Jimmy) of Liberty and granddaughter Melissa Chante Bolding of Pickens.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph Aiken and Fred Aiken and sister, Edna Walton.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
