Free accommodations tax grant workshop set

PICKENS — A free workshop is scheduled to answer the “how-to” questions for applying for an Accommodations Tax Grant. The workshop will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., in the LaVonne Nalley Piper Auditorium of the Pickens County Museum.

Many of the non-profit organizations in our area are staffed by volunteers. As a volunteer the grant process may seem daunting. Plan on attending this workshop for a clear understanding of each step associated with completing an application for an Accommodations Tax Grant.

If your organization is a non-profit (501C3) within Pickens County this session will help you. This is a free workshop but space is limited, so you do need to pre-register by calling the museum at 864-898-5963.

Each year Pickens County receives Accommodations Tax of which a portion is made available for grants within the community to help with tourism efforts. According to Chapter 4, Title 6, of the SC Code of Laws, Accommodations Tax Funds are to be used only for projects that promote tourism.

The instructor for this evening session is Dale Powell, Accommodations Tax Liaison for County of Pickens. He will give an overview of each section of the grant application, cover the submission process, identify documents/numbers you will need, detail final report and accompanying documentation, and answer individual questions.

Located at the corner of U.S. 178 at 307 Johnson Street in Pickens, the museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Thursdays for 9 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. To register for this workshop call the museum at (864) 898-5963. For questions or more information email Dale Powell at dalep@co.pickens.sc.us.
