Cleveland man killed in wreck

CLEVELAND — According to Pickens County coroner Kandy Kelley, a Cleveland man was killed in a late-night single-vehicle accident last Wednesday, although the wreckage wasn’t discovered until the following morning.

Kelley and South Carolina Highway Patrol officers said Tyler Christian Newcomb, 21, lost control of his Chevy S-10 and crashed at around 11 p.m. Wednesday on S.C. Highway 11 about 10 miles north of Pickens, but officers were not called to the scene until around 7:40 a.m. Thursday morning.

According to Kelley, Newcomb was not wearing a seatbelt and died of blunt force trauma.

The accident is still under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
