Cannon to kick off ‘Get Fit Pickens County’ with diabetes health fair
PICKENS — In an effort to kick off the “Get Fit Pickens County” initiative, Cannon Hospital has teamed up to offer a diabetes health fair on Thursday, March 3, from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at Pickens First Baptist Church.
A number of tests and educational information will be offered including free blood glucose testing, diabetic shoe fittings, blood pressure, and height and weight, along with discounted screenings like a total lipid panel with ALT/AST for $30, plus free flu shots will be available to anyone interested.
AnMed Health will also be on hand with information on their hyperbaric wound care center.
“We were originally planning a community diabetes health fair around the same time as this countywide healthy initiative, so we decided it would be great to team up and combine our efforts to make these test and information available to the entire community,” said Christy Lowe, Wellness Coordinator at Cannon. “This health fair is beneficial to anyone, not just those with diabetes. The information on hand will help in your quest to get healthy.”
The “Get Fit Pickens County” event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with an appearance from the Biggest Loser participants Amy and Phil Parham in the auditorium of the Pickens First Baptist Church.
Participants can stop by the health fair before during or after the Parhams’ speech, because no appointment is necessary for the testing.
