Richard named new coordinator of career and technology education
COUNTY — The School District of Pickens County recently announced Dr. Brian Richard as its new coordinator of career and technology education. Richard is currently the lead STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) instructor at Gettys Middle School.
“The instructional department is looking forward to having Dr. Richard join our team,” associate superintendent of instructional services Sharon Huff said. “His background in the private business sector is a good complement to his background in career and technology education. In addition to this full-time duties at Gettys Middle School, Dr. Richard has served as the lead STEM teacher for our district. He has led the initiative to incorporate Gateway to Technology into our middle schools and helped schools with their robotics teams. Last summer, he also organized three successful robotics camps for Pickens County students. He also has extensive knowledge in the area of instructional technology. As SDPC teachers incorporate more digital curriculum into their classrooms, his understanding and guidance will be an asset.”
Prior to his 11 years of teaching at Gettys, Richard managed the Greenville branch of Charles Schwab, which was responsible for more than $1 billion in client assets. A graduate of Clemson University, he went on to earn Master of Science and Doctor of Education degrees from Nova Southeastern University. Before college, Richard attended the U.S. Army Quartermaster School, where he mastered self-motivational, self-disciplinary, and team building techniques.
In his role as coordinator of career and technology education, Richard will be responsible for maintaining a strong relationship between teachers and the business community. He will help the district continue its focus on building success beyond the classroom by giving students the skills to excel in the workplace.
