UPSTATE — Tri-County Technical College’s ninth annual Bluegrass under the Stars concert is set for this Saturday at the school’s Pendleton Campus.

The free concert and fireworks event for the family is held annually in conjunction with the town of Pendleton’s annual Spring Jubilee celebration. The event will be held from 6-9:30 p.m. in the amphitheater. It will be held rain or shine (rain location is College’s Student Center).

Bluegrass traditionalists Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice will headline the show. The band took home three awards from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association (SPBGMA)’s 39th annual Bluegrass Awards Feb. 3. The band received the SPBGMA’s Album of the Year award for their record, “Heart of a Song,” as well as Song of the Year for their hit, “A Far Cry from Lester and Earl.” Bandleader Junior Sisk was also named Male Vocalist of the Year (Contemporary).

Joining Junior Sisk and Ramblers Choice (in order of appearance) will be Most Wanted Bluegrass, Tulago Holler and Mountain Faith.

Most Wanted Bluegrass band members are siblings Carley Arrowood, 16, and Autumn Arrowood, 14, of Union Mills; Tyler Dodson, 17, of Ellenboro, Isaac Ferrell, 15, of Pickens, and Paul Watson, 17, of Green Creek.

Mountain Faith is a young Bluegrass Gospel family from Sylva in Western North Carolina. They started performing together in 2001.

Tugalo Holler is based in Westminster and played its  first concert in May 2001 at Gap Hill Baptist in Six Mile. Since then, the band has played at churches, arts and crafts shows, weddings, parties, benefits and many other venues across Upstate South Carolina, Northeast Georgia and Western North Carolina.

The Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) Sweet Potato Pie Kids will perform immediately before the concert begins.

Several of Tri-County’s academic departments will offer information and fun activities for concert-goers.

The concert will end with a fireworks extravaganza. Concessions will be sold during the event.
