 Hazel Ruth Shehan

Pickens — Hazel Ruth Shehan, 87, of Pickens, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at her home.

Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Durham and Eva Stephens Durham.  Mrs. Shehan was retired after 60 plus years from the alterations business.  She was a member of Missionary Baptist Church and a devoted member of the Pickens Senior Center where she loved to cook in the kitchen and make her many crafts that she donated for fundraising activities.  Her hobbies included quilt making, crocheting, collecting antique dishes, fishing, camping, and working in the vegetable and flower garden.  She has donated all her sewing machines, fabric, and doll clothes to a children’s orphanage.  Hazel was the Greatest Mom, Special Grandma, and the Very Best Sister.  She loved everyone with a kind heart and she would do anything she could to help others.

Surviving is a daughter, Ruth Smith and husband Terry Smith; sons, Tony Shehan, David Shehan and wife Robin Shehan, and Al Shehan all of Pickens; her grandchildren, Missy Mauldin and husband Robert Mauldin, Chris Smith and wife Angie Smith, Amanda Shehan and Robbie Shehan; her great grandchildren, R.J. Mauldin, Makenzie Mauldin, and Austin Smith; two brothers, Albert Durham of Pickens and Carl Durham and wife Carolyn Durham of Greer; and a sister, Helen Jean (Susie) Bell of Inman.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dewey Shehan, Jr.; a sister, Katherine Durham; and brothers, James E. Durham and Jack D. Durham.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, April 5 at 3 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Helen Frazier

Six Mile — Helen Kelly Frazier, 96, of 184 Bluebird Lane died Friday, April 4, 2014 at her residence.

Born in Williamston, she was the widow of Marion Woodrow Frazier and a daughter of the late Guy and Ester Jenkins Kelly.  She was retired from Cateechee Mills and was a member of Cateechee Baptist Church for 77 years.  During her free time she enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Surviving are a son, Kelly Frazier (Judy) of Six Mile; three sisters, Sybil Frazier of Norris, Patsy Durham of Six Mile and Barbara Roberts of Pickens; five grandchildren Kelli Moore, Scott, Todd and John Frazier and Paige McClure; 14 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son and daughter in law, Douglas and Gayle Frazier.

Funeral services for Mrs. Frazier were held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.  Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Elton W. Sloan

Easley — Mr. Elton Winfield Sloan, 78, husband of Christine James Sloan, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, the son of the late Rev. Roy W. and Viola Barnes Sloan, Mr. Sloan was a retired supervisor from Mayfair Mills and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.  He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are a son, Rocky Sloan of Easley; two daughters, Cindy McGregor (Steve) of Easley, and Christy Korosec of Liberty; three sisters, Brenda Holden and Betty Merck, both of Easley, and Joyce Dillinger of Hendersonville, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Kelly Sloan, Brett McGregor, and Scott McGregor.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Randy Smith officiating. Entombment followed in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors.

Loyd P. Holder

Pickens — Loyd Parsons Holder, 85, of S. Glassy Mountain Road, husband of the late Bonnie Lou Pace Holder, died Thursday April 3, 2014 after a short illness.

Mr. Holder was retired from Ryobi in Pickens.  He was a member Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Easley and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Silver Star.  He was also a member of the US Air Force Reserves.

Surviving is a son, Tim Holder (Melodie) of Easley; two grandchildren, Ryan Holder (Ellen) and Hanna Hamlin (Justin); and a brother, Edgar Holder of Pickens.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three sisters and a sister-in-law.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the caregivers and Regency Hospice that provided exceptional care to Mr. Holder.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 5 at 4 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.  Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Stephen Randall Vaughn

Liberty — Mr. Stephen Randall Vaughn, 45, husband of the late Genean Robitaille Vaughn, died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Marvin James and Thelma Ann Mote Vaughn, Mr. Vaughn was employed with Upstate Trucking Inc. and a member of Carolina Community Church.

Surviving are a son, Stephen Vaughn of the home; a daughter, Dawn Ashworth of Easley, and a step-daughter, Jessica Farmer of Easley; two grandchildren, Amy Marie Jones and Alex Michael Bryson; three brothers, Timothy, Michael, and Jonathan Vaughn; and a sister, Teresa Ann Vaughn. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Vaughn was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Vaughn.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Dr. Nick Ballew and the Rev. Earl Reid officiating.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Family members are at their respective homes.

Dorothy Ann Gravley

Pickens — Dorothy Ann Gravley, age 88, wife of the late Richard Gravley died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Garvley was born in Colfax, N.C. a daughter of the late Bryte Viola Taylor Doty and Bryon Doty.

Survivors include one daughter; Judy Hinkle and husband John L. of Easley, one granddaughter; Sharon Barswell of Pickens, two great-grandchildren; Heather Freeman of Liberty and Cody Barswell Pickens, two great-great-grandchildren; Haley Freeman and Brooklyn Freeman both of Liberty.

Mrs. Gravley is predeceased by her husband, parents and one sister.

A Graveside service was held 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Etrulia Edney

Six Mile — Etrulia Theresa Mitchell Edney, 95, widow of George Doyle Edney, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Sterling House in Central.

Mrs. Edney was born in Six Mile, a daughter of the late Ernest Martin and Angie Laura Kelley Mitchell.  She was a homemaker and a member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include brothers, Lloyd Mitchell (Marie) of Six Mile, Franklin Mitchell of Murrells Inlet, and Robert Mitchell (Mary) of Gastonia, N.C.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by brothers, Waymon, Leland, Paul, and Donald Mitchell.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9 at Dillard Funeral Home in the chapel with the Rev. Ken Collins officiating.  Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Boyce Whitman officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Sterling House and also to the staff and volunteers if Interim Hospice for the care given to Mrs. Edney.

Vickey E. Edens

Pickens — Vickey E. Edens, age 61 died Wednesday April 2, 2014 at Autumn Care, Saluda N.C.

Ms. Edens was born in Richland County a daughter of the late Clara Powell Roof and Wendell Theron Edens.

Survivors include two sisters; Robin Edens of Cleveland and Rita Sanders and husband Dale of Pickens, one brother; David W. Edens of Pickens.

Vickey was predeceased by her parents and one sister Lois Ward.

The funeral service was Friday, April 4 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.

W. Jack Ragsdale

 Easley — William Jackson Ragsdale, 95, of 117 Wicklow Court and husband of Peggy Blackwell Ragsdale, died Friday, April 4, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Ragsdale was born in Westminster, a son of the late Walter Harrison and Sallie Jane Honea Ragsdale.  He graduated from Easley High School in 1936 and he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1940.  Mr. Ragsdale was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army Air Corps as a Lt. Colonel.  He received two Bronze Stars during his service in World War II, and he was in charge of the Navigator’s School in Monroe, La. at the age of 25.  He was a former Publisher of the Easley Progress.

In 1977, he retired as Chairman of the Board of Martin Printing Company in Easley.

Mr. Ragsdale was a member and Elder Emeritus of Providence Presbyterian Church.

Prior to that, he was an Elder at Easley Presbyterian Church and Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville.

At the age of 94, he read the complete Bible.  Mr. Ragsdale served as the first President of the Easley Chamber of Commerce in 1947.

He was a Trustee of Foothills Presbyterian Home for over 14 years as well as Trustee Emeritus, and he was President of the S.C. Press Association and the Printing Industry of the Carolinas, and he was a member of the Benjamin Franklin Society.  Also, Mr. Ragsdale was inducted in the Easley Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005, and he was presented the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award.  An avid golfer, Mr. Ragsdale also loved to play Bridge.

In addition to his wife of the home, surviving are three sons, William Jackson Ragsdale, Jr., (Marcia), Edmond Marcum Ragsdale (Leslie), and Perry Arthur Ragsdale (Katherine) all of Easley; one daughter, Jere Ragsdale Coker (Tom) of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Marcum Ragsdale; a brother, Walter H. Ragsdale; and two sisters, Marian R. Lanning and Ruth R. Sitton.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday at Providence Presbyterian Church.  The committal service took place in the Veterans Garden of Honor in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Diego Hernandez-Hernandez

Easley — Baby Boy Diego Hernandez-Hernandez, infant, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are his parents, Marcos and Ana Hernandez-Hernandez of Easley; and a sister Kimberly Gael Hernandez-Hernandez of the home.

Diego was predeceased by a sister, Baby Girl Elizabeth Hernandez-Hernandez who died in 2012.

Jimmy Welborn

 Pickens — James Cannon “Jimmy” Welborn, 85, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Redeemer Health and Rehab, in Pickens.

Born in Greenville, to the late Charlie Lee and Ruth Cannon Welborn, Jimmy retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked as a mail carrier. In his off time, Jimmy loved to be outdoors planting trees and managing the forest around his family land. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the American Legion for 52 years.
He is survived by numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandfather, Dr. J.A. Cannon; and an uncle, Dr. Gain Cannon.
Graveside services were 2 p.m. Friday, April 4 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, in Pickens.
