Clara Sarish

Norris — Clara Boccabella Sarish, 91, of 371 Jule Merck Road, and formerly of 1328 Smith Township State Road, Burgettstown, Pa., died Monday, April 28, 2014 at the home of her daughter.

Born in Bridgeville, Pa. she was the widow of Steve Sarish and a daughter of the late Vincent and Erminia Dallaglio Boccabella. Mrs. Sarish worked at American Bridge and later retired from Coliers Steel. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Burgettstown, Pa.

Surviving are a daughter, Gloria Holladay of Norris; a son, Vincent Sarish of West Hills, Calif.; a sister, Laura Fanase of Burgettstown, Pa.; four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at the Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, Pa. on Saturday, May 10. Burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery.

Bryce Kitchens

Easley — Bryce Kitchens, 84, of Easley, died Wednesday, April 30, 2104.

Mr. Kitchens was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and a retiree of Tampa Electric Company, Tampa, Fla. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, but his passion was wood working.

Bryce was able to leave family and friends some beautiful wood workings that will be enjoyed for lifetimes to come, and will serve as a reminder that Bryce will live on in our hearts.

Bryce was an example to all, and the way he lived his life was no exception. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served with the U.S. Army and was discharged with honor. Bryce was a devoted Christian, husband, father, and friend to all who knew him, and will be greatly missed. He gave his family and friends his greatest gift, “himself.” There was no greater gift he could have given. Thank you for being our father and friend. Rest in peace and enjoy the company of our heavenly Father.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, JoNell Kitchens, and four children, Karen Clements of Cookeville, Tenn., Kathy Brewer of Easley, Michael Kitchens of Piedmont and Kyra Clements of Harriman, Tenn. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services were held at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Retired Pete Vandeweghe, former Pastor of Southside Baptist Church, Brandon, Fla., and Pastor Jamey Collins of Flat Rock Baptist Church, Liberty.

Robert D. Trylick

Chadron, Neb. — Mr. Trylick, 87, died on April 29, 2014 at Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, Neb.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1927 as the middle child of Mike and Emma Trylick of Homer, Mich. He spent his young years on the farm milking cows and driving a tractor. WWII was in full force when he turned 17 so he enlisted in the Navy. After serving 3 1/2 years, he married Mavis May on March 13, 1948. He then attended and graduated from Moody Bible Institute. After graduation he and his wife were accepted as missionaries with Continental Baptist Missions to do church planting. They spent 40 years starting churches in Michigan, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Texas. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. After retirement he continued outdoor sports as well as doing wood working projects for the family. He also was the go to person with any repair project…it was said “papaw could fix anything” At the “young” age of 75, he was game to move to Nebraska, where he loved helping brand and work the ground. He also will be missed at the Bunk House Motel, where he took care of maintenance until health problems forced him to quit.

Survivors include: his wife: Mavis Trylick; Children: Ruth Annette (Tangwall) Trylick of Chadron, Neb., Philip J. (Eileen) Trylick, of Plover, Wis., Barbara A. (Dane) Shultz, Easley; grandchildren: Tony (Tracey) Tangwall of Whitney, Neb., Tonya (Ray) Watson of Chadron, Neb., Tracy (Rick) Schuler of Chadron, Neb., Shawn (Linda) Trylick of Los Vegas, Aaron (Marie) Trylick of Plover, Wis., Allison Shultz of Easley, and Jesse Shultz of Dickenson, N.D.; 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services for Robert D. Trylick of Chadron, Neb. were Thursday, May 1 at 10 a.m. at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, Neb. with the Rev. Tony Tangwall officiating. Burial was at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D.

Francis J. Dyer

Easley — Francis John Dyer, 90, of 106 Dogwood Lane, husband of the late Denise Schwerdlin Dyer, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home.
Born in Garden City, N.Y., the son of the late Charles Francis and Florence Rufa Dyer, Mr. Dyer retired as traffic export manager with Continental Grain and was of the Lutheran faith. He was a veteran of the D-Day invasion of France during World War II while serving with the U.S. Army.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews and his caregivers, Carman Robertson Ling and Donald Ling.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Dyer was predeceased by two sons, John Bruce Dyer and Gregg Dyer and by a sister, Florence Baugmann.

Paul Ukena

Easley — Paul Earl Ukena, 85, of 132 Lakeshore Drive, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Glorified Nursing home.

Born in Enid, Okla. he was a son of the late Fred and Halie Ukena. He retired from Belk’s Carpet Store, and was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Phillip Ukena of the home, and Sarah Ukena of Easley; two great-grandchildren, Bella and Brealin Ukena.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Bennett Ukena, and two sons, Edward N. Ukena and Phillip Ukena.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Ruth T. Chavis

Pickens — Ruth Tompkins Chavis, 85, of 148 Shannon Circle, died Thursday, May 1, 2014.

Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of the late David and Floy Porter Tompkins. Ms. Chavis was retired from Hearst-Celanese in Earl, N.C. and was a member of the Jehovah Witness West Easley Congregation.

Surviving are two children, Shirley Beard and David West both of Pickens; six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Ms. Chavis was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by two children, Rosemarie West and Phillip Lloyd West; four sisters, Gladys Stancell, Marie Oakley, Ellie Mae Owens and Lila Hampton; and a brother, Ray Tompkins.

Funeral services were on Sunday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Harold E. Southerland

Easley — Harold Edward “Wee Bear” Southerland, 90, of 208 Biltmore Road, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Lawrence Monroe and Kitty Guffee Sutherland, Mr. Southerland retired as staff manager with Independent Life Insurance Company and was a member of Park Street Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Marines.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ruth Palmer Southerland of the home; a son, Brett Southerland and wife, Andrea, of Easley; a brother, Rev. Lawrence “Pee Wee” Southerland of Anderson; and a grandson, Devin Southerland.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Southerland was predeceased by a son, Harold Edward “Hal” Southerland, Jr., four brothers, Jack, Truman, Billy and Lowell Southerland, four sisters, Hazel Robinson, Lillie Oates, Mildred McCollum and Willine Garrison, and by a half-brother, Haywood Sutherland.
Graveside services were 11:30 a.m. Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Danny Reeves

Easley — William Daniel “Danny” Reeves, 64, of 415 Aletha Street, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, the son of Glenn and Edith Lollis Reeves of Easley, Danny retired from Wal-Mart, Inc.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Doreen Sears Reeves of the home; his son, Danny Reeves of Easley; a sister, Anne Fulford of Easley; and two granddaughters, Katie Elizabeth Reeves and Claire Jewel Reeves.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.
Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Danny’s caregiver, Carolyn Martin, for the wonderful care she gave to him during his illness.

Joseph Morgan

Pickens — Joseph Avery Morgan, 67, of 725 Mountain Estates Road, died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Rosman, N.C., he was a son of the late Avery and Verle Galloway Morgan. He loved spending time outdoors gardening. He attended Midway Baptist Church and East Pickens Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Janice Todd and her husband Calvin of Pickens; a son, Joe “Pee Wee” Morgan of Pickens; a sister, Josie Feno of Pickens; a brother, Jerry Morgan of Pickens; four grandchildren, Nicole Patterson, Joey Lesley, Joseph J.W. Todd and Michelle Morgan; and a great granddaughter, Averyleigh Grace Lesley.

A gathering to honor the life of Mr. Morgan will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at his residence.
