Baptist Easley Hospital names physicians of the year and quarter
EASLEY — Baptist Easley Hospital honored John Cox, MD, as the Cam Underhill Practicing Excellence Physician of the Year for 2013. The award was presented to Dr. Cox of Easley General Surgeons at the celebration of Doctor’s Day.
Dr. Cox was cited for his caring and compassion, “always treating us like people and not just patients.”
One nomination read: “I wish to express my feelings of admiration for this physician. My mother had an operation on Dec. 23. I live in Mississippi and only had the information she was able to provide me about the procedure. With her permission, I faxed a note to the physician. The physician quickly called me to discuss my mother. The compassion and willingness to help my mother and ease my mind has had a profound effect upon me personally. I am thankful for the kindness and care he gave to my mother who, praise God, is home and doing as the physician directed, to the best of her ability. I thank this physician and staff members for showing me the heart in healthcare again.”
David Chang, MD, received the Physician of the Quarter award for first quarter 2014.
One of his nominations read: “This physician cares about his patients and treats them as his own family. He has great pride and passion in his practice and in Baptist Easley Hospital. He was born in this hospital 42 years ago. He always treats patients and his staff with respect. He delivers the highest accurate diagnosis. He has excellent rating from his patients, always explaining the treatment and choices to them. He works with other physicians and hospital staff to provide the highest level of care to all patients. He always seeks ways to improve the practice of medicine. He is a leader in his profession
and this community.”
The Cam Underhill Practicing Excellence award, given quarterly, honors physicians for displaying the Baptist Easley Medical Staff Standards of Behavior: Integrity, Compassion, and Competence. The annual awardee is chosen from one of the quarterly recipients.
