SIX MILE — A Central man is facing an attempted murder charge after police said an argument ended in a stabbing at a campsite over the weekend.

According to a release from Pickens County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy Creed Hashe, the 911 dispatch center received a call just moments after midnight on Saturday regarding a stab victim at a primitive campsite near the Twelve Mile Creek Bridge on S.C. Highway 137 near Six Mile.

Deputies arrived on the scene within five minutes and found a 33-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to the upper body and face. The victim was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his wounds and was admitted to the hospital.

Hashe said detectives determined that the incident was the result of a verbal altercation that escalated to an outbreak of violence between the victim and an acquantaince, Kendall Dean Shipman, 39, of 224 Nuthatch Road in Central.

There was one witness to the confrontation, an adult, according to Hashe.

Shipman was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during comission of a violent crime and public disorderly conduct. He was being held Tuesday without bond at the Pickens County Detention Center.
