Dee Evans
Six Mile — Dionnah Michelle “Dee” Palmer Evans, 41, wife of Andrew Earl “Andy” Evans of Six Mile, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at her home.
Dee was born in Landstuhl, Germany, a daughter of Virgil Wirick and Phyllis Kaye Chance Palmer of Watkinsville, Ga. She was a homemaker and a member of Kings Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Andy, of the home, daughters include, Katriena Woodruff (Justin), Jessica Ann Acosta-Evans, Aubrey Elizabeth Evans, and Emma Michelle Evans, all of Six Mile, and a granddaughter, Josephene “Josie” Woodruff. Dee is also survived by a sister, Shawn Elizabeth Acosta of Pickens and a number of loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, June 20, in the funeral home chapel at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with the Rev. Josh Thomas officiating.

Kathleen Cater
Easley — Kathleen Summerall Cater, 90, of 105 Bannister Street, died Monday, June 16, 2014 at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Miles Franklin “Leo” and Ethel Dickard Summerall, Mrs. Cater retired from Brunswick Mill in Pickens and later worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 75 years, the Rev. John Garnice Cater of the home; a son, Chubby Cater (Gail) of Easley; a daughter, Sharon Cater of Easley; and two grandsons, Enoch Pugh and Nathan Pugh.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cater was predeceased by four brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Thomas Dale Leatherwood
Marietta — Thomas Dale Leatherwood, age 59, husband of Peggy Jean Carr Leatherwood, died Tuesday, June 18, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Leatherwood was born in Brevard, N.C. and a son of the late Myrtle Owenby Leatherwood and J.D. “Bud” Leatherwood. He was employed with Greenville Technical College for over 17 years. An avid outdoorsman, Thomas enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great love for his family.
Survivors include his wife Peggy of 34 years, a daughter Joy Phillips of Alabama, two sisters; Ardith Stone of Welford, Joyce Yates of Pickens, one brother; Arthur Stephenson of Greenville, two grandchildren; Kanyon Phillips and Karley Phillips both of Alabama, six nieces, four nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Leatherwood was predeceased by his parents, one brother; Douglas Leatherwood and a niece Casey Leatherwood.

Garvin Lewis
Pickens — Mr. Garvin Hullett Lewis, 85, husband of Leila Syble Lewis, died
Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Virgil Joe and Mildred Bailey Lewis, Mr. Lewis retired from Mayfair Mills-Pickens Division, and was a
member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Sybil Chambers (Thomas); two brothers, T.J. Lewis and Hildred Lewis (Vickie); a sister, Evelyn Porter (Iva); and three grandchildren, Shanna Loftis (Matt), Starla
Chambers, and Summer Limbaugh (Aaron).
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lewis was predeceased by three brothers, Lester, Wallace, and Berce Lewis; and one sister, Velma Waldrop.
Funeral service was 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Dorothy S. Stephens
Easley — Dorothy Sumerel Stephens, 84, died on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Mrs. Stephens was born in Laurens County, a daughter of the late Rhett and Mamie Ramey Sumerel. She was a homemaker and very active in ministry to the deaf.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane Jameson (Doyle) of Easley and her son, Mitchell Stephens (Dianne) of Kingsport, Tenn., five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Joyce Smith (Olen) of New Mexico and brother, Jerry Sumerel (Tonya) of Concord, N.C.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22 in the chapel at Dillard Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Henry and Dr. Pam Smith officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Martha Cruse
Easley — Martha Ward Cruse, 73, of Ingleoak Lane, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at Regency Hospital.
Born in Oconee County, the daughter of the late Dwight L. and Laura Robertson Ward, Mrs. Cruse was a homemaker and a member of Slab Town Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, James Cruse, Sr., of the home; sons, John Childress, James “Scooter” Cruse, Jr., Michael Cruse and Todd Wright; daughters, Susan Stansell, Laura Massey, Daune Raines and Angie Emen; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cruse was predeceased by a daughter, Tina Childress and by a brother, Charles Ward.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Robert J. Gibson
Pickens — Robert Joseph Gibson, 42, husband of Sha Holcombe Gibson of Pickens, died on Saturday, June 21, 2014.
Robert was born in Greenville County, son of Jan Hayes Lucas and the late Roy Joe Gibson. He was formerly employed with Pickens County in the Assessor’s Office and The Cliffs Communities. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Hollywood, Fla. Robert was an avid fan of The University of South Carolina athletics.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Sha Holcombe Gibson of the home, his mother and step-father, Jan and George Lucas of Simpsonville and his grandmother, Doris M. Hayes of Greenville. Robert is also survived by his furry babies Sassy, Toby, Sunny, Sadie, and Snowy.

Thomas Rupert Gilstrap Sr.
Dacusville — Thomas Rupert Gilstrap Sr., 76, of 1126 Old Dacusville Highway, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at his home.
Born in Dacusville, Mr. Gilstrap was a son of the late Thomas Burn and Bernice Albertson Gilstrap. He was a graduate of Dacusville High School, and he founded A and A Fire Protection Company in 1976. Mr. Gilstrap was in the fire sprinkler industry for over 50 years.
He was a member of Glassy
Mountain Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, Reba Armstrong Gilstrap of the home; three sons, Jonathan Gilstrap, Corey Gilstrap and Jake Gilstrap and his wife, Lynn, and a daughter in law, Patricia Holcombe Gilstrap, all of Dacusville; a brother, James Henry Gilstrap of Easley; 11 grandchildren, Yvonne Gilstrap Smith, Jason Ray Gilstrap, Anne Marie Gilstrap Jones, Jeremy L. Hall, Brandy Leann Gilstrap, Jonathan Chace Gilstrap, Brittany Gilstrap, Brandon Gilstrap, Michael Cole, Tyler Holder, and Andrew Gilstrap; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilstrap was predeceased by a son, Thomas R. Gilstrap, Jr.; a daughter, Rebecca “Candy” Gilstrap Hall; and a brother, Lamar Gilstrap.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Gilstrap Family Cemetery. The Escort of Honor was employees of A and A Fire Protection.

Dr. Harold M. Waters
Liberty — Dr. Harold M. Waters, 66, of 205 Black Bottom Road, died Friday, June 20, 2014.
Born in Easley he was a son of the late Marvin Dillon and Addie Dorothy Chapman Waters. He received his B.S. from Armstrong College, his Masters of Education from Clemson University, and his Doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Waters taught for 33 years in the public schools of South Carolina. He served as a regular education teacher, special education teacher, and later as an administrator. Currently he was a Professor at Southern Wesleyan University in Central. In 2009 he received the Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Waters loved spending time with his students, and many people will remember the time he spent at Hardees in Liberty every morning having breakfast.
Surviving are three brothers, Charles Waters (Linda) of Anderson, Steve Waters (Wanda) of Pendleton, and Ricky Waters (Tara) of Central; five nieces, Tonya, Stephanie, Jana, Melissa, and Ashley; five nephews, Brad, Tim, Phillip, Josh, and Easton; several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Frances Busha.
Funeral services to honor the life of Dr. Waters will be conducted 11 Saturday, June 28 at the Newton Hobson Chapel & Fine Arts Center, 737 Wesleyan Drive, Central SC (on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University). Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens SC. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Liberty Mortuary.
The family will be at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to The Mount Church, 827 Hwy. 93, Clemson SC 29631, or Southern Wesleyan University, Education Department, PO Box 1020, Central SC 29630.

Gregg Oliver
Easley — Gregg Foster Oliver, 54, of Easley, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014.
Born in Easley, Gregg was a son of the late William “Bill” and June Foster Oliver. He graduated from Easley High School and he received a degree in Industrial Electronics from Greenville Technical College.
He worked for Crane Chevrolet and Minyard Oldsmobile, and he was a former Parts Manager for Diamond Buick. Gregg was a member of Easley Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Ashley Oliver; a brother, Tony Oliver; a nephew, William Russell Oliver and a niece, Heather Oliver.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
