According to Clemson Police chief Jimmy Dixon, officers responded to a motel July 6 after a call about a suspicious person who possibly had a gun.

Police arrived to the motel and spoke with three people who had paid for a room at the hotel. As the investigation continued after the people left, police allegedly found more than 11 grams of methamphetamine in their rented room.

One of the suspects, 17-year-old Mitchell Darren Hooper of Seneca, was arrested a short time later and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and trafficking methamphetamine within the proximity of a school.

Police asked for the public’s help in finding the other two suspects, 23-year-old Chelsea Anne O’Shields and 35-year-old William Roger McGuffin, who were also charged with trafficking methamphetamine and trafficking methamphetamine within the proximity of a school. Police said they believed neither has a specific residence, although Dixon said in a news release O’Shields is from the Seneca area and McGuffin is from the Fair Play area.

After receiving a tip on O’Shields’ whereabouts, police were able to find and arrest her leaving a motel in the Anderson area on Friday, but McGuffin was still on the loose at press time Tuesday.

Dixon credited media attention and agents from the State Law Enforcement Division for helping officers locate and arrest O’Shields.

“A tip led to the arrest of O’Shields, and it is our hope someone will give information leading to the final arrest in this case of McGuffin,” Dixon said.

Anyone with information on McGuffin’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Clemson City Police Department at (864) 624-2000. Callers can remain anonymous.
