George C. Jones
Clemson — George Carlisle Jones, 100, husband of Sadie A. Jones, died at his home Monday, March 21.
A native of Walhalla, Mr. Jones was the son of the late George L. and Mary Corbin Jones.  After graduation from Clemson University in 1932, Mr. Jones was employed by Walter Guest Construction Firm of Anderson.  He later co-founded Industrial Builders, a commercial construction company, also of Anderson.  In 1960, after selling his interest in Industrial Builders, he was employed by Clemson University in the Physical Plant Division where he remained until his retirement in 1976.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Jones is survived by his son Les Jones (Jane) of Seneca, daughter Lynne Griffin (Randy) of Six Mile, grandchildren Carlisle Jones, Blake Jones, Amy Sawyer, Kelly Crawford and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his two brothers; Alvin S. Jones and L. Frank Jones.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 24 in the Chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central with the Rev. Dr. Rusty Brock officiating.  Burial followed in Westview Cemetery, Walhalla.

Max Bannister
Easley — Maxie Dean “Max” Bannister, 66, of 113 Shannah Lane, formerly of 207 South 8th Street, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Hospice of the Upstate.
Born in Greenville County, the son of the late Jesse and Beatrice Turner Bannister, Max was formerly employed with Dayco Industries and was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Lisa Bannister Freeman of Dundee, Fla.; his sister, Elaine Painter (Larry) of Easley; and two grandsons, Dustin and Jacob Freeman.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Johnny Touchet officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Robert Hugh Alexander
Easley — Robert Hugh Alexander, 87, of 4265 Farrs Bridge Road, Easley, husband of Margaret Lathem Alexander, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at his home.
Born Jan. 2, 1924 in Pickens County, Mr. Alexander was the son of the late Robert E. and Jason McKinney Alexander. He was a graduate of Brevard College, and he retired from the U.S. Post Office after 38 years of service. Also, he was a farmer and a former deacon and member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. Mr. Alexander was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II having served from 1943-1945 in the LVT Repair Unit – Pacific as a 2nd Class Petty Officer.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are three children, Mrs. Gilda (Philip) Hendericks, Mr. Jason (Paige) Alexander, and Mr. David (Cindy) Alexander, all of Easley; and five grandchildren, Megan Bishop, Sarah Alexander, Grace Alexander, Bob Hendricks, and Margaret Hendricks.  
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday at Cross Roads Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Mark B. Ford and the Rev. Jim Ed Looper officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church, Lottie Moon Missions, 160 Cross Roads Church Road, Easley, SC 29640.

Vena Biache
Pickens — Vena Bryant Collins Biache, 95, of 138 Rosemond St. died Thursday at Redeemer Health and Rehab.
Born in Pickens, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Maggie Nelson Bryant. She was a homemaker and a member of Rice’s Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are nieces, Cindy Jensen and her husband David of Central, and Gwen Warren of Chicago, Ill; a nephew, Danny Chandler and his wife Linda of Cherokee, N.C.; several great nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Rozell Garrison of Liberty.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Paul Collins; her second husband Herman Biache; three sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services for Mrs. Biache were held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
Floral arrangements will be accepted, but memorials may also be made to Rice’s Creek Baptist Church: PO Box 597 Liberty, SC 29657.

HELEN J. DEMKO
Central — Helen Jeannette Demko, 96, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., widow of Steve Demko, died Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Seneca Health and Rehab.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Agnes Parker Morley. She retired while living in Florida and worked here under the Green Thumb Program at the Clemson Child Development Center and the town of Pendleton.
She is survived by daughter, Jean Horner and husband Frankie of Central; grandson, John Horner and wife Shari of Simpsonville, granddaughter, Jeannette Stutzman and husband Todd of Evergreen, Colo., great-grandchildren, Brittany Forrester and husband Loren, Calla Horner and Erik Wiffin, great-great-grandchildren, Chad and John Scott Forrester.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central. Committal services will follow at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Denise Weeks
Easley — Denise Gallagher Weeks, 61, of Easley, wife of Jim Weeks died Friday, March 25, 2011 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Mrs. Weeks was born in Oneonta, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charlie and Doris Belue Gallagher. She was a former English teacher in New York and was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a son, Jamie Weeks and his wife, Ragan; a step-daughter Michelle Isbill; a brother, Kevin Gallagher; four grandchildren, Meggie and Charley Weeks, Taylor and Austin Isbill.
Memorial services were 5 p.m. Monday, March 28 in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

Margaret Dora Odell Nix Kelley
Liberty — Margaret Dora Odell Nix Kelley, 78, of Liberty, died Saturday, March 26, 2011.
Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late King Edward and Iola Thomas Nix.
She was employed with Alice Manufacturing and was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Edward George Kelley; her son, Edward Anthony (Tony) Kelley and his wife Debbie; her grandsons, Jason Nix Kelley and his wife Jannifer; and Joshua Wyte Kelley and his wife Jessica; her sister Mildred Cantrell and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, March 28 at 11 a.m. at Roanoke Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dillard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

C. Hope Guerreri
Clemson — C. Hope Guerreri, 96, formerly of Clemson, died Saturday, March 26, 2011. 
She is survived by her sons, Richard and his wife, Barbara of Vernon, Conn.; and Bob and his wife, Doris of Six Mile; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, to whom she was married for 69 years.
A  Funeral Mass will celebrated at 12 p.m., Wednesday, March 30 in the St. Andrew Catholic Church Chapel in Clemson.  The family will receive friends after the Mass at the church. 
Burial will be in Berlin Corners, Vt. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Greenville, SC.

Jesse B. Rodgers
Liberty — Jesse B. Rodgers of Liberty died on Sunday, March 27, 2011.
Mr. Rodgers was born in Aiken County, son of the late Caleb and Ada Denkins Rodgers.
He was co-owner of Masterflow Seamless Gutters, a Mason and Shriner and Past Master of Monaghan Masonic Lodge.  Mr. Rodgers was an avid gardner and fisherman.  He was a member of Golden Creek Baptist Church and a former member of Cross Roads Baptist Church.
He was first married to the late Margaret Chastain Rodgers, then to the late Edith Cox.
Mr. Rodgers is survived by his wife, Vivian Wyatt Rodgers, a son; David Rodgers and his wife Brenda, of Easley; a daughter; Kathy Gallamore and her husband Jack, of Liberty; five step-sons, Barry Herd, David, Danny, Sam, and Steve Cox; a sister, Axie Doolittle of North Augusta. Grandchildren: Star Haney, Brock Rodgers, Zane Coats, Trish Spence, and Seth Gallamore. Great grandchildren: Peyton Haney, Gavin, Jack, and Sara Margaret Coats; Maggie, J. T., and Cullen Spence. 
Funeral Services were 3 p.m. Tuesday, at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David Gallamore, the Rev. Mark Ford and the Rev. Randy McAlister officiating. Burial followed at Graceland Cemetery, Greenville with Masonic Rites.

Leon Burgess
Liberty — Narl “Leon” Burgess, 80, of 607 Summit Drive, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Hospice of the Upstate.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Leonard and Mary Redding Burgess, Mr. Burgess was a graduate of Dacusville High School and retired from Milliken Corp. and Tri County Technical College. He was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church where he belonged to the Auditorium Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Bagwell Burgess of the home; children, Barbara Wood-Allen of Inman, Michael (Charlotte) Burgess of Easley, and Tim (April) Burgess of Liberty; brother L.C. (Louise) Burgess of Easley; grandchildren, Scott Camp, Travis Burgess, Dori Wood, Tyler Burgess and Parker Burgess; great-grandchildren, Seth Camp and McKenzie Burgess.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burgess was predeceased by a brother, Roy Burgess.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Dr. Roger Couch, the Rev. Willie Honea and the Rev. Dr. Rick Lee officiating.  Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.
