God’s Law vs. Man’s Law
Dear Editor,
God created the Heavens, the Earth, all living things and created man in His own image. He created male and female and charged them with replenishing the Earth — not male and male or female and female to do the job, but male and female.
He said He would be their God and they would be His people. In Deuteronomy Chapter 28 verses 1-14, He tells how He will bless His people if they are obedient. The remaining verses of Chapter 28 tell of the curses which will come on us if we are disobedient. This message is also covered in Leviticus Chapter 26.
God desired to bless His people and rule over them.
What happened? His people desired a king as the other nations. He granted their desire. Study of the scriptures tells us what the results were. Calamities, wars, strife and many more terrible things took place. They got what they asked for and then some.
Our nation, the United States of America, was founded on Godly fundamentals — a Christian foundation, as the Pilgrims and Puritans came to the new world. They had left the old world due to the tyrannical heavy hand of the Church of England. Many lives were lost as they journeyed to the new world for freedom and liberty.
Our forefathers honored God and asked for His blessings as they set up the new nation as evidenced by The Bill of Rights, The Constitution and early documents which are used to govern our nation.
They realized that freedom and liberty came from God and not man. For many years, we had God-fearing and honoring men and women serving their fellow man from public office. Today, that is seemingly not so. Most politicians today seem to be serving themselves and not the public for everyone’s good. We are all to be subjects of God and not mankind. It’s God’s law vs. man’s law.
The USA has been blessed as no other nation, but we are very rapidly losing these blessings. We have left our first love. In my 82 years, I have seen such a change in many things. Killing of the unborn (murder), same-sex marriages — you name it. Anything today seems OK. We have left God out of everything but curse words. Will we repent and turn back to God? II Chronicles Chapter 7 verse 14 tells us what we as Christians must do.
God’s government is fair and just for all. Man’s government is corrupt, selfish and evil in many instances. We as a nation and a people need to turn back to God, elect Godly men and women to office, pray for our leaders and hold them accountable. With God, all things are possible.
In Joshua Chapter 24 verse 15, Joshua said “but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” This is my pledge and desire. What about you?

Pickens
Sidewalk installed near PHS
Dear Editor,
As some of you travel U.S. Highway 178, past Pickens High School, you may have noticed the new sidewalk being installed from the high school down to Sparks Lane. This new sidewalk will allow students to walk safely down 178, and they will not have to cross the highway.
There are many to thank, mainly the Pickens County Transportation (C-Fund) Committee for approving the project and the $500,000 in funding.
The committee’s members include Curtis Burgess, Jimmy Lee Dodgens, Dan Crosby, Mike LaMar and Richard Robertson.
Sidewalks are not cheap, and Earth Materials did a great job installing the walkway, and did it rather quickly and with little disruption in school traffic. The C-Fund committee receives its money from the state, funded by gasoline sales.
