Linda Smith Jones

Pickens — Linda Lou Smith Jones, 71, wife of Donald Dwayne Jones of Pickens, departed this life Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014.

Linda was born in Shelbyville, Ind., a daughter of the late Paul and Eileen McKinney Smith. She was retired as a respiratory therapist in Lake City, Fla., and she was a Methodist.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Donald D. Jones of the home, sons, Chris Jones (Linda) of Lake City, Fla., and Scott Jones (Krystal) of Liberty and daughters, Tammy Martin (Denny) of Liberty and Pam Bishop (Bodie) of Lake Butler, Fla., 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Ruth Kessler of Waldron, Fla., and Sandy Wilson of Pensacola, Fla.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by a son, Donald D. Jones, Jr.

A memorial service was held 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Arial Baptist, Easley.

Eunice Alexander

Liberty — Eunice Gantt Alexander, 85, of 185 Rice’s Creek Church Road, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at Regency Hospital. Born in Liberty, she was a daughter of the late Maude Powell Gantt and Charlie Gideon Gantt.

She was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church for 50 years, and was currently attending Maranatha Baptist Church. Eunice retired from Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens. She also worked at Glenwood Mills in Easley.

Surviving are her children, Cathy Bates (Bob) of Liberty, Kay Hamilton (Eddie) of Pickens , and Ken Alexander (Tammie) of Easley; six grandchildren: Brett Bates (Barbara) of Norris, Trent Bates (Allison) of Six Mile, Chad Moore (Peggy) of Easley, John Chance Fuller of Greenville, Stephanie Cuddy (Michael) of Seattle, Wash., and Cliff Alexander of Easley; seven great-grandchildren: Justin, Travis, Aaron and Autumn Bates, Jacob and Bailey Moore, and Bryson Cuddy.

Eunice was predeceased by her husband, Cliff Alexander, her parents, and two sisters, Louise Waldrop and Ruby Whitlock, and four brothers, Eugene, William “Ben,” Dwight, and Roscoe Gantt.

Funeral services to honor the life of Eunice Alexander were 3 p.m. Monday at the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Liberty Memorial Gardens. The family received friends prior to the service.

Eleanor Kelly Gibson

Clemson — Eleanor Kelly Gibson, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at the age of
86.

She is survived by a daughter, Jo Dale Gibson of Pendleton, and a son, Don H. Gibson and his wife Myra of Powdersville.

“Nanny” as she was known by her family, will also be missed by her grandchildren, Keri, Josh, and Kayla Gibson and Joey and Timmy Green, along with Great-grandchildren, Joseph,
Drew, and Chloe Green.

She also leaves behind her sister Jean Holladay and first cousin Blanche Jackson, as well as countless family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joe W. Gibson, a daughter Judy Lynn Gibson and parents, Harvey Jack and Bernice Kelly Eleanor was a long time member of The Mount Church in Clemson where she and husband Joe, taught the youth for many years.  She retired from Clemson University with 21 years of service in the accounting division.

A lady of great faith and quiet spirit, Eleanor has impacted the lives of countless young people and peers alike with the love of Jesus Christ.  This world is truly a better place for her time here on Earth.  All who met her were blessed beyond measure to have known her.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, and entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum following the service.

The Rev. Josh Culver, pastor of The Mount Church, and the Rev. Dr. David Gallamore, pastor of Rock Springs Baptist Church, will officiate.

Gerald Oliver Holcombe

Pickens — Gerald Oliver Holcombe, age 82, husband of Patricia Ferguson Holcombe passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Holcombe was born in Oconee County, a son of the late Ollie Pauline Patterson and Preston Oliver Holcombe.

Mr. Holcombe was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He was retired after 26 years with South Carolina Wildlife (DNR).

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, one daughter; Sharon Holcombe Finley (Ben), one son; Tom Holcombe (Rita) all of Pickens, one sister; Reba Stancell of Salem, two brothers; Derrell Holcombe (Dorothy) of Salem, Charles Holcombe (Judy) of Walhalla and six grandchildren.

Mr. Holcombe was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Wilma Stewart and Ray Holcombe.

Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Mountain View Baptist, with burial in the church cemetery.

Helen Patterson EllenburG

Liberty — Helen Patterson Ellenburg, 93, wife of Ralph M. Ellenburg, Sr, of Liberty, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014.

Helen was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Barney G. Patterson and the late Minnie Bearden Patterson of Salem.

Helen was a graduate of Pickens High School, where she was the Valedictorian and played basketball. As a young adult, Helen was crowned Miss Pickens. Helen was an avid reader and loved to garden. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 70 years, Ralph M. Ellenburg Sr.; her children, Ralph (Mac) M. Ellenburg, Jr & Heller Gwen Ellenburg of Liberty and Heather Rice McConnell of Black Mountain, N.C. and her brother, Jack Patterson of Pickens. She was predeceased by a daughter, Hollace Hamid of Easley and a brother, Roland Patterson of Pickens. Helen left behind five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Thursday, Oct. 30, at 3:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park

Dorcas N. Williams

Easley — Dorcas Nabors Williams, 93, formerly of Mary Ann Street, passed from this life Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Mrs. Williams was born in Oconee County, a daughter of the late John M. and Beulah Orr Galloway. She was retired as a seamstress and was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Gertie N. Bates (Tommy), and Freda N. Trotter (Jake) all of Easley, and sons, Roy Nabors (Diane) of Easley and Ralph Nabors (Ann) of Pickens. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by husbands, A. B. Nabors and Malcolm Williams, and a daughter Patricia N. Wood. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

Easley — Rosalie Tella Brown, 76, of Easley, wife of the late John Delmar Brown, died Tues., Oct. 28, 2014 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Providence, RI, the daughter of the late Carmine Thomas and Helen Veronica Clavin Tella, Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith. She had been a permenant vendor at the Anderson Jockey Lot for over the past seven years.

Mrs. Brown also loved Clemson football, the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Lynn Russell (Carl Spencer) of Easley; a sister, Joyce Blackston (Alfred Zator) of Easley; a brother-in-law and sister-in law, Donald and Pat Brown of California; and a niece, Kim Costella of California, three nephews, Donald Brown, Jr., of California, Eric Blackston of Florida and Ryan Blackston of Easley; and a special niece, Julia Blackston of Easley. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Brown was predeceased by a grandson, Jon James Russell.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road Easley.

Frances A. Alexander

Pickens — Frances A. Alexander, 86, died Wed., Oct. 22, 2014.

Frances was born on April 6, 1928, in Pickens to the late Ernest and Anna Alexander. She was a faithful servant of The Lord Jesus Christ, her life will be a lasting testimony to all of us who truly knew her.

In addition to her parents Frances was preceded in death by her husband, B.C. Alexander; children, Allen Alexander, Ben Ray Alexander, and Sandra Lee Pace.

She is survived by her grandchildren, James Dewitt Pace II(Angie) of Reidsville, NC, Lori Pace Rinchiuso (Ron) of Reidsville, NC, and Christina Alexander Mitros (Ashley) of Simpsonville; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Dillon, Jessica, Jake, Olivia, and Cameron.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens.

Easley — Dianne Cheryl Caddell, 66, went home to be with her Lord and Savior
Wed., Oct. 29, 2014.

Born in Durham, N.C., a daughter of the late Lewie Alexander Caddell and the
late Hester Pendergrass Perkins, Mrs. Caddell was a homemaker and a member
of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving, are two sons, Michael D. Miller of Bennettsville, SC, and Andrew “Andy” Bagwell (Stephanie) of Central; two brothers, Jeff Caddell of Elizabethtown, N.C., and Robert Caddell of Easley; one sister, June C. Turner of Durham, N.C.; three grandchildren, Shaina Byrd, Andrew Bagwell, and Makenna Bagwell; and one great-grandchild on the way.

In addition to her parents, Dianne was predeceased by a brother, Lenard Caddell; her step-father, Arthur Fletcher Perkins, Jr.; and a grandchild, Levi Bagwell.

Shirley Chastain

Easley — Shirley Berryhill Chastain, 71, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, the daughter of the late Palmer Dewey and Hazel McCall Berryhill, Shirley retired from the Greenville Hospital System and was a member of Georges Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Billy Joe “BJ” Chastain, Jr. of Easley; a daughter, Angela Chastain “PJ” Weaver (Jeffrey Scott) of Simpsonville; and a granddaughter, Morgan Emily Weaver. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by a son, Jonathan Allen Chastain.

Memorial services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

Thelma Hatfield

Six Mile — Thelma Ersaleen Harrington Hatfield passed away at age 91 on Nov. 2, 2014, at her home on Lake Keowee in Six Mile.

She was born on December 23, 1922, in North Vernon, Ind., to the late John Irwin and Edna Lillian Harrington. She was predeceased by a brother, John Henry Harrington, and a sister, Mae Quiteria Nash.

She is survived by her husband of almost 73 years, James Delbert “Deb” Hatfield and their children, Brenda Colleen (Steve) Penland of Greenville, Donna Jean (Tom) Hall of Six Mile, Kenneth Dean (Vicky) Hatfield of Charleston, West Va.,; one granddaughter, Angela Michele (Mark) Osborn of Gahanna, Ohio; and a half-brother, Howard Scott (Linda) Harrington, of Tucson, Ariz.

As a youth, she resided at the Soldiers and Sailors Children Home in Knightstown, Ind., until the age of 18. She enjoyed sewing and working crossword puzzles.

Her wish is to be cremated and the family to have a gathering at a later date to celebrate her wonderful life as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
