Artist in residence teaches students about printmaking

PICKENS — Pickens High School has a new artist in residence.
Jim Creal, a printmaker from Spartanburg, is an artist in residence who will teach PHS visual art students how to print the two-color plate monoprint process.

The students will work to print both representational and abstract prints, culminating in a two-color representational print.

More than 100 PHS art students will take part in the residency; two of Mr. Sargent’s Art I classes and four of Dr. Hicks’s classes are involved in making these monoprints.

Dr. Hicks received an Arts Curricular Innovation Grant, which funded the residency and paid for all the supplies, and the artist was made possible through the S.C. Arts Commission.
