Blue Flame control all facets in blowout at Berea

BEREA — In arguably Pickens football’s most dominant performance of the Chad Smith era, the Blue Flame routed the Berea Bulldogs 51-7 at Harold Batson Stadium on Friday night.
“If we execute like that, we’re pretty good,” Smith said after the game. “If you look at (Berea’s) scores, Liberty beat them by 10, Pendleton beat them by 13, and we took it to them. So we just have to take care of us.”
Berea’s only points came on a kickoff return four minutes into the first quarter.
The Blue Flame dominated every facet of the game, however the game wasn’t without its teaching moments.
When asked about the near-shutout performance, Smith joked, “We need to work on kickoff.”
The Pickens defense allowed just 62 total yards, forced two turnovers and held the Bulldog offense without a first down until the tail end of the fourth quarter.
“They were fantastic. Defense did a great job,” Smith added. “It was a good team win.”
