BPWC wrestlers medal at Laurens High event

LAURENS — Six Berkshire-Pickens Wrestling Club wrestlers were double winners in a SCUSAW competition hosted by Laurens High School last weekend.

Blake Chandler garnished two silvers competing in the intermediate 75-lbs. weight class, and Trent Burdette brought home two golds competing in novice 75 lbs.

Hunter Powell won his first matches in Olympic-style wrestling, taking a silver in Greco Roman and gold in freestyle competing in the cadet 145-lbs. class. Tre Smith also wrestling in cadet 145, taking a bronze in Greco Roman and silver in freestyle.

Another Berkshire cadet, Jack Brissey, competed at 170 lbs. and took a bronze in both styles. Devon Johnston, competing in junior 113 lbs,. grabbed a silver in Greco and a gold in freestyle.

The club will be back in action on April 25 for a SCUSAW event hosted by West-Oak High School.

The wrestlers will then compete in tournaments at Alexander (Ga.) High School in Georgia on May 2, Life University in Marietta, Ga., on May 9, Dutch Fork High School on May 16, the USAW Eastern Regionals on May 25-26 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta and the SCUSAW State Championship at Fort Mill High School on May 30.

In addition, the USAW cadet National Duals are set for June 9-13 in York, Pa., the USAW junior National Duals will be held June 23-27 in Tulsa, Okla., and the USAW cadet/junior (boys/girls) Nationals will be held on July 18-25 in Fargo, N.D.
