DAR’s National Day of Service
As part of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) National Day of Service, Fort Prince George Easley Chapter members took student school supplies and staff thank you baskets to Lakes and Bridges Charter School, Liberty Primary School and Pickens Elementary School. Each school received baked goodies and health bars, along with educational supplies. “Our chapter loves to surprise the schools,” said community classroom committee chair Darlene Levy, who organized the event. New businesses open

The Gentry Place apartments are now officially open at 144 Aspen Way in Pickens. The Porkette, also know as the Parkette, recently held the grand opening for its new, larger location at 103 W. Main St. in Pickens. The barbecue resturant and catering service is open for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, for dinner 5-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday for dine-in or takeout. Crafts Plus Events held its formal grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 21. Owner Diane Curry cut the ribbon on her new location at 305 E. Main St. in Pickens. Nonprofit seeking warm items for elderly
COUNTY — A local nonprofit aims to help area senior citizens stay warm as cool weather arrives and is also looking ahead to Christmas.
Members of Warmth and Comfort for the Elderly in Upstate SC use their crochet skills to provide warm items for nursing home patients, hospice groups, home health patients and elderly people who live at home and can’t afford them.

Spooky Halloween Fun 10-25-23

Pickens County is ready to celebrate the spooky season, with events planned around the area throughout the rest of the month.
EASLEY, OCT. 27
Easley will host the county’s next event from 6:30-8:30 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 27, at Old Market Square.
The event will give folks a chance to hang out with the community, trunk or treat, take pictures, listen to live music by The Flashbacks and meet the Sanderson Sisters of “Hocus Pocus” fame. Look for the Pickens County Courier booth to say hello to our staff at this event.
SIX MILE, OCT. 28
Mile Creek Baptist Church will hold its third annual trunk-or-treat from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Mile Creek Baptist is located at 104 Lakeside Drive in Six Mile.
