Scout Troop 51 enjoy summer camp

Members of Scout Troop 51 recently had a great week at summer camp at Camp Old Indian. They completed 22 merit badges and started on many more. First-year Scouts completed the Pathfinder program to gain basic Scouting skills.

Mavis open in Pickens

Mavis Tire and Brakes held its grand opening recently in Pickens. The new tire shop, located beside Burger King on U.S. Highway 178, is excited to be in Pickens, and the staff is looking forward to seeing business continue to grow. 5K run held to benefit Pickens High athletics

The Red, White & Blue Flame 5k was a success on June 24 on the campus of Pickens High School, with proceeds benefiting PHS athletics. The race directors would like to thank the sponsors, participants, volunteers and assistance from the Pickens police and fire departments. Independence Day events planned across county

COUNTY — Pickens County is celebrating Independence Day with a number of events this week.

 

Central

Central Main Street will celebrate Independence Day from 9 a.m.-noon this Saturday, July 1, on Main Street in Central. The event will feature a bike parade, live music from Cane Creek Bluegrass Band, an apple pie contest, a red, white and beard contest and more.

 

Easley

The city of Easley is throwing a three-day July 4 festival featuring live music Sunday through Tuesday at Old Market Square.

Rabbit show set for Saturday at the Hagood Mill

PICKENS — Flint Fire United Rabbit Rebels will be hosting a rabbit show at the histoic Hagood Mill this Saturday.

Flint Fire United Rabbit Rebels is a local American Rabbit Breeders Association Club that is partnering with 4-H to hold a Rabbit Showmanship Clinic and a single rabbit show.

The event is taking place to provide a learning opportunity for youth in preparation for the American Rabbit Breeders Association convention this fall in Louisville, Ky.

The clinic will begin at 4 p.m., with the show starting at 6 p.m.
