Veterans in the Liberty area are invited to the next meeting of American Legion Post 67 in Liberty. The Legion meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Scout Hut, circle off North Palmetto Street. All veterans are invited.

Benefit planned Saturday to help Michelle Turner

PICKENS — A benefit for Michelle Turner, who was diagnosed with cancer four years ago, will be held this Saturday, May 6.
The benefit will be held at Amazing Grace Fellowship. There will be a vendor/yard sale beginning at 8 a.m. and running until about 3 p.m.
A hot dog sale is planned from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
A singing featuring Heart Sound will start at 6 p.m. Other activities will include a raffle for baskets. Ticket sales will start at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Turner has recently been told that she only has two months or less to live. She will be leaving a son behind. The benefit is being held to help with any finances the family may endure.
Grace Fellowship Church is located at 229 Pearl St. in Pickens.

Meg Garner cuts the ribbon at her new family-owned restaurant, Mama Megs’ Country Cookin’ — a meat and three restaurant located at 203 Farrs Bridge Road in Pickens. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Check the Facebook page for specials. Brezeale honored

Sidney Marie Brezeale of Sunset, left, received Tri-County Technical College’s Outstanding Veterinary Technology Student Award at the College’s annual awards ceremony recently.  Presenting the plaque is Ashley Brady, Veterinary Technology department head.

Garrison wins contest

Ava Garrison, a fifth-grader at East End Elementary School in Easley, won the South Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) American history essay contest. She was honored at the S.C. DAR state conference recently. Her parents, Brett and Lauren, attended the luncheon with her. Fort Prince George Chapter DAR sponsored her for the award. PYAC hosts second annual tournament

PICKENS —The Pickens Youth Athletic Corporation hosted their second annual Golf Tournament  on Saturday, April 15, at The Rock Golf Club and Resort. 20 teams of 80 golfers enjoyed a 12 noon hotdog lunch and 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Member of the Month

The Greater Pickens Chamber of Commerce recently named the Law Offices of R. Scott Dover as its April Member of the Month. The firm provides general litigation services to individuals in Pickens, Oconee, Greenville, Anderson and Spartanburg counties. ‘Kreme’ of the crop

Miss Pickens County Teen Joanna Burton is all smiles as she sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts on April 8 at Market at the Mill in Pickens. A Pickens County native and the daughter of Shawn and Jenny Burton, Joanna was working to raise money to help raise fund her platform “Restart the Arts” as she prepares to represent Pickens County on her journey to the 2023 Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant, set for June 20-25. The competition will be held at the Township Auditorium in Columbia. The pageant gives young ladies ages 13 to 17 years of age from around the state a chance to compete to earn scholarship money. Anyone interested in helping Burton toward her goal of being named 2023 Miss South Carolina Teen is asked to contact theresa.woods1@aol.com or misspickenscountyteen2023@gmail.com.
