Joe’s plans anniversary event to mark 50 years of serving Easley

Editor’s note: In anticipation of the 50th anniversary celebration at Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor in Easley on Oct. 9, the late Joe Lesley’s daughter, Julie Lesley Ellison, took the opportunity to reflect on the restaurant’s history and her dad’s legacy.
It was July 1972 when my Dad needed a full-time job.
He was always a good worker; he and my mom worked hard and even had second jobs.
One of their second jobs was working at the Huddle, so they had a little experience when they decided to buy the Easley Ice Cream Parlor.

Jock White, owner of Jock White Collision Repair Shop, receives a letter of appreciation from Pickens American Legion Post 11 sergeant at arms Rick Noyce for his support of the Legion. White allows the Legion to utilize his parking lot to facilitate bi-yearly garage sales, which help to make it possible for the American Legion to send qualified Pickens High School students to Boys and Girls State each year.
‘A Murder Is Announced’ to open
EASLEY — It is Friday, Oct. 13, in the sleepy village of Chipping Cleghorn, England. A mysterious advertisement has been placed in the Chipping Cleghorn Gazette that has caused a panic at the Little Paddock Home of Miss Letitia Blacklock. Someone has announced that a murder will take place at the home at 6:30 that very evening.

Civil rights photo exhibit now at Hampton Library
EASLEY — A photography exhibit by photographer Cecil J Williams documenting the civil rights movement is currently on display at the Capt. Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library in Easley.

Parkinson’s Society adds Woschkolup to board of directors
EASLEY — Upstate Parkinson’s Society (UPS) has announced that Kathleen V. Woschkolup, M.D., has accepted a position on its board of directors as medical director and vice chair.
Woschkolup is a Greenville neurologist specializing in movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease. She is highly respected and renowned for her patient dedication, according to a news release. Woschkolup is a member of the Mercy Bon Secours health system. She graduated from Universidad De Guadalajara (UAG), Mexico, and fulfilled her residency at Medical University of South Carolina. Her office is at St. Francis Millenium, 2 Innovation Drive, Greenville.

The Hagood Community Center will host an information sharing session for seniors called Senior Gathering this Thursday, Sept. 29, beginning at 11 a.m. in the center’s dining room, complete with a “make your own” ham/turkey cold cut meal, and with no charge to attend.

Rock & Roll with Pack 51
Cub Scout Pack 51 members pose for a photo on a recent visit to the Bob Campbell Geology Museum in Clemson. Following the museum, the Pack participated in a mini-golf tournament at the Oasis Ranch in Seneca. Music tour coming to Easley Shuckin’ Shack
EASLEY — Shuckin’ Shack recently announced the an 18-stop music tour with popular Nashville musicians and local artists.
The month-long “Fresh and Raw Tour” Together with Truist will visit each of the restaurant’s Eastern U.S. locations and come to Easley on Sept. 30. Shuckin’ Shack is locally owned by Don and Margaret Marcum.

SC Old Time Fiddlers Convention planned Saturday at Hagood Mill
South Carolina State Fiddling Championship will be decided
PICKENS — As autumn approaches and the leaves turn their brilliant colors, it signals the time for fiddle music in the mountains.
This Friday and Saturday, old-time music will fill the hills and hollers around Hagood Mill as the historic site hosts the S.C. Old Time Fiddlers Convention. Some of the best musicians from around the Southeast will gather to compete in a variety of categories, with the top fiddler being named South Carolina’s state fiddling champion. The traditional contest goes back to the 1920s, when Clemson University opened the doors of stately Tillman Hall to the local musicians of the nearby South Carolina mountains for a music competition.
