Thanking veterans
We all know the debt we owe to our military veterans can never be fully repaid, and yet they continue tirelessly to do good work in their communities across the country. At the Aug. 1 monthly meeting of the Pickens County Historical Society Board of Trustees, president Ken Nabors presented the members of the local American Legion a plaque of recognition. It read “In appreciation to the American Legion Post 151 for their generous support of the efforts and programs of the Pickens County Historical Society to preserve and remember our shared history.”

• Veterans invited to American Legion
Veterans in the Liberty area are invited to the next meeting of American Legion Post 67 in Liberty. The Legion meets on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Scout Hut, circle off North Palmetto Street. All veterans are invited.
• LHS Class of 1962 to hold 60th reunion
The Liberty High School Class of 1962 will hold its 60th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 13. The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Silver Bay seafood restaurant at 7027 Calhoun Memorial Highway (U.S. Highway 123) in Easley.
Local girl wins Girl Scout essay contest
Amelia Pearson will get badge that went to moon
EASLEY — A fifth grade Girl Scout from Forest Acres Elementary School in Easley is the winner of a national essay contest, “Girl Scouts to the Moon and Back.”
Amelia Pearson participated in the contest and will be awarded a Space Science

James Richard Kaplan, chairman of Cornell Dubilier, passes away
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — James R. Kaplan, 87, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022.
He was born in Windber, Pa., in 1934, where his father was a coal miner. He received a basketball scholarship to the College of William and Mary, where he had an illustrious career. He earned his B.S. degree in 1957 and then married Jane Thompson, his college sweetheart. Jim turned down the opportunity to play professional basketball with the St. Louis Hawks and instead chose to join the Army, where he was commissioned as a 2nd
Gospel singing set for Saturday in Easley
EASLEY — The Mighty Gospel Harmonizers of Liberty will host a special singing to celebrate 36 years of singing and in rememberence of the group’s former leaders, Tim Cheeks and Bro. Howard Williams, both of whom passed away over the last two years.
The event will be held at Divine Purpose Outreach Ministry, located at 103 W. C Ave. in Easley. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m.
On the program along with the Mighty Gospel Harmonizers of Liberty will be the Rev. Floyd Johnson and Silver Tones of Iva, Spiritual 4 of Anderson, Cheeks, Austin Family of Liberty and the J.R. Harmonizers of Anderson, along with a special devotional by the Chosen Men of God of Easley.
The master of ceremonies will be Pastor Keith Robinson of New Ministries Church Greenville.
COVID protocols will be enforced, with masks required (except when singing), and temperatures will be checked at the door.
