Family Promise to hold ‘Giving Day’
EASLEY — On Thursday, April 28, Family Promise of Pickens County will be celebrating National Family Promise Giving Day, a 24-hour online campaign to raise awareness and support for families battling homelessness.
Family Promise, the first homeless shelter in Pickens County, was founded in July 2012. Since August 2014, with the support of the community and partnership with congregations of the community, the organization has been providing services to homeless families with children at its Day Center, located at 104 Stewart Drive in Easley.

May at the museum
The Pickens Museum of Art and History is set to present a very unique art show by Pickens artist Erin Cronin-Webb. Visitors will be able to make it a family affair as children, parents and grandparents can share the toys and games of bygone days. The exhibition is planned May 17-July 15.

PHS Scholar-Athletes
The Pickens High School Scholar Athletes of the Week are Ethan Medlin and Aubrey Richardson. Medlin is a member of the junior varsity baseball team and was nominated by his English teacher, Mike Utley. He is the son of Jonathan Medlin and Tiffany Fernanders. Richardson is a member of the varsity soccer team and was nominated by Lisa Hiott, pictured with her. Richardson is the daughter of Jeff and Anita Richardson.

Native Plant Garden plans scavenger hunt
PICKENS — Volunteers at the Joe and Maggie Rampey Interpretive Gardens, located at the Pickens County Museum of Art and History in Pickens, will host an open house and children’s scavenger hunt from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, as part of the Pickens Azalea Festival.

Quilt fundraiser
A pieced fan quilt will be the prize for an upcoming Pickens Senior Center Fundraiser. A blue and off-white muslin quilt top with a classic fan pattern was donated to the Granger Fiber Arts Center at the Hagood Community Center. The quilt was hand-quilted on a traditional frame by the Granger Fiber Arts quilters. The beautiful 59-by-77-inch coverlet will fit a full-sized bed. Each pieced fan is intricately embellished with lace. The quilting patterns are traditional handwork. The backing is solid blue. Tickets for the drawing for the special quilt are available Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at the Pickens Senior Center, located 129 Schoolhouse St. in Pickens from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. until April 30. The winner will be drawn at the Will Brothers Early Spring Jam concert at the center. Ticket are $1 each, with all the proceeds going to the center. The winner does not have to be present to win.
