The Charles F. Rogers Scholarship Committee recently announced that Hannah Campbell is the 2024 recipient of the Charles F. Rogers Scholarship Award. Campbell will receive a $1,000 scholarship to put toward her college education. “Congratulations to Hannah for representing the Blue Flame basketball program and for her perseverance to achieve success on and off the court,” the committee said in a news release.

Rosa Grayden receives community leader award

CLEMSON — Rosa Grayden, chairwoman of the board of directors of the Shaw Center in Clemson, received the first Dianne Haselton Award at the annual meeting the League of Women Voters of Oconee and Pickens Counties on Tuesday, May 14.

Disturbance near Pickens school causes lockdown

PICKENS — Pickens Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown last week after an incident at a nearby apartment complex.

Lt. Chris Griffin with the Pickens Police Department said in a release that officers received a call at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 16, about a domestic violence incident at the Pickens Gardens Apartments, which is beside the elementary school.

Nix reunion set for Sunday at Northside

PICKENS — The descendants of Ulysses and Lou Annie Monroe Nix will gather for the annual Nix reunion this Sunday, June 2.
The reunion is set to be held at Northside Baptist Church, located at 421 Sangamo Road in Pickens. Lunch will be at 1 p.m.
