Rev. Dr. Trenton L. Connelly

Williamston — Rev. Dr. Trenton Lavern Connelly, 81, passed away Jan. 22, 2023.

A native of Pickens, son of the late Ivy Lee and Addie Simmons Connelly, Mr. Connelly attended North Greenville College, where he received his associate degree in 1963, Furman University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1965, New Orleans Baptist Seminary, receiving his Th.M. degree in 1969, and Luther Rice Seminary. receiving his D.Min. degree in 1981.

He ministered at West Union Baptist in West Union, Poe Baptist Church in Greenville, Clearview Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, Cashiers Baptist Church in Cashiers, N.C., Northwood Baptist Church in Greer, Westside Baptist Church in Union and Praters Creek Baptist Church in Pickens. He was a retired Baptist minister and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.  It is his greatest desire that everyone who reads this obituary will also know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior so that we can all be united together in Heaven eternally.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Cox Connelly of the home; two sons, Michael Lee Connelly (Joy) of Spartanburg and Steven Mark Connelly (Tamara) of Taylors; a daughter, Linda Connelly Matthews (Mark) of Lyman; a stepson, Daniel Fowler (Taylor) of Williamston; a stepdaughter, Dana Crawford of Pelzer; a brother, Rev. JAMES D. ‘JIM’ MULLINS

PICKENS — Mr. James D. “Jim” Mullins, 87, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at his home.

JD was born in Pound, Va., on Feb. 17, 1935, to the late Chester and Ora Riggs Mullins. He was a man of many talents and was a medic in the Air Force while serving in Korea, a teacher at Easley Christian School, owned Mullins Masonry and was a Sunday School teacher at Jones Avenue Baptist Church. Above all else, he loved his Lord and his family and was known for cooking the best pancakes and grits.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Brenda Mullins; five children, Becky Bridgewater, Charla Compton (Charles), Mark Mullins (Rani), Debbie Sessin and Tiffany Lister (Joel); three bonus kids, Suzanne Bolding, Marie Bolding-Tyre (Dale) and Dena Recio (Ben); 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Tish Thompson; one brother, Larry Mullins; and a very special fur-baby, Papa’s Puppy Greta.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Heller and Kimberly Snedden; and six brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Jones Avenue Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2-3:15 p.m.

Burial will take place at Mullins Family Cemetery in Pound, Va., on Friday, Jan. 20.

KENNETH GARY PARSONS

EASLEY — SRA Kenneth Gary Parsons, 37, loving and devoted husband since 2014 to Taylor Parsons, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at his home.

Kenneth was born on Jan. 29, 1985, in Easley, to Gary and Po Parsons. He was an avid Clemson football fan or anything sports related. Kenneth was a 3A state high jump champion in 2003. He was an Air Force veteran, serving as Flying Crew Chief 437 AGS on C-17 sircrafts. He was a member of Arial Baptist Church, and his great faith in God and family was shown until the very end. Kenneth was a loving husband and father who was always willing to sacrifice for his family. He was a highly respected, hardworking man, who above all else loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

In addition to his loving wife of eight years and his parents, Kenneth is survived by one daughter, born in 2016, Madelyn Parsons; one sister, Young Loyd (Robert); one niece, Brinkley Loyd; two nephews, Wilson Loyd and Beckett Loyd; his mother-in-law, Tianna Jackson; grandmother, Eloise Parsons; and his best friend, Marion Dukes.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his grandfather, Fred Parsons.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 8 at Arial Baptist Church. Interment followed the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

The family members are at their respective homes.

LIBERTY — Nancy Cann Hudgens, 78, of Chastain Road, died on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, at her residence.

Born in Anderson, she was the widow of Doyle Rudolph Hudgens and a daughter of the late James Clinton and Rosa Owen Cann. She had previously retired from

EDMUND JOHN ‘ED’ BLACKHAM

EASLEY — Edmund John “Ed” Blackham, 75, entered his heavenly home on Dec. 28, 2022, after a brief battle with interstitial lung disease.

Ed was born on July 5, 1947, to the late Andrew and Alice Blackham in Chicago, Ill.

He proudly served his country when he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 101st Airborne Division. He heroically completed one tour in Vietnam. Ed was employed with the Taylor Wine Company in Hammondsport, N.Y., for 25 years before relocating to South Carolina in 1994. Ed was a truck driver for the remainder of his career, and he retired in 2014. Upon retirement, Ed remained active, including engaging in his favorite hobby of riding and rebuilding motorcycles, and he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Edmund John Blackham was a beloved son, husband, father, uncle, pepa/grandpa and friend who will be greatly missed. His family has peace knowing that they will be reunited with him in heaven.

Ed is survived by many family members, including his loving wife of 39 years, Dianne Blackham; three children, Nicole (Richard) Cippoletti, Eric (Laura) Blackham and Ashley (David) Smith. He has six living grandchildren, whom he deeply loved, including Henry and Amelia Cippoletti, Elliott and Evelyn Blackham and Tripp and Scarlett Smith. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Richard and Virginia Jones; his sister-in-law, Rosie Blackham; and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, Ed is survived by extended family members, Tony and Mike Lisefski, who were like both brothers and sons to him.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Andy and Freddy Blackham.

A graveside service will be held at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson on Jan. 6 at 10 a.m.

LOUISE H. QUEEN

PICKENS — Mrs. Louise H. Queen, 76, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, and went to be with her Lord and Savior.

Louise was born in Lake Toxaway, N.C., on Nov. 28, 1946, to the late Artellus and Effie Devore Hogsed. She was a strong and loving woman, who enjoyed taking care of others and being someone people could rely on. Louise loved her family and especially loved babysitting her grandchildren and taking them to school. She enjoyed watching the Hallmark channel, going out to eat, camping, traveling and going to the lake.

Mrs. Queen is survived by three sons, Ronny Queen (Cindy), Sammy Queen (Melanie) and Danny Queen (Tammy); one daughter, Darla Wheeler (Wayne); four grandchildren, Keith Queen (Ashlyn), Zachary Queen, Joshua Queen and Timothy Queen; four great-grandchildren, Kennadee Queen, Jasper Queen, Aubree Holcombe and Sophia Silvers; eight siblings, Eva Mae Kimsey, Leon Hogsed, Roland Hogsed (Vesta), Dorothy Owen (Herbert), Jimmy Hogsed (Kathy), Tillman Hogsed (Glenda), Tina Phillips (Ricky) and Steve Hogsed (Waynetta).

BRYAN LOYD SMITH

SIX MILE — Bryan Loyd Smith, 93, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022.

Bryan was a lifelong member of Six Mile Baptist Church.

Bryan is survived by a sister, Jeanette Thomas; a brother, Carlos Smith; daughters, Diane Singleton (Stephen) and Jackie Smith; stepson, Jim Patterson (Jane); grandchildren, Tori Bell (Jerad), Kiley Dorth (Ryan), Sara Lazarus (Kyle), Michael Schmidt and Aaron Geller; great-grandkids, Regan and Tahlia Bell, Zeik and Kelce Dorth and Evie, Gabe and Theo Lazarus; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bryan was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Selma Smith; wife, Mozelle Nations Smith; wife, Aletha Patterson Smith; and several brothers and sisters.

A private committal service will be held sometime in early January.

RALPH JOHN ANDERSON

PICKENS — Ralph John Anderson, 86, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 5, 2022.

Born in Oak Park, Ill., he was the second of three children born to Signe and Axel Anderson. As a very young boy, he enjoyed sketching and drawing pictures and participating in his lifelong favorite sport of tennis.

Following his graduation from high school, he joined his father’s vocation of house painting. Ralph attended Washburn Trade School and then furthered his education at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Upon completion of his studies, he obtained work with a motion picture company as an artist. His work continued until he joined the United States Army. He trained as a Signal Corps radio operator, and after serving for six years, including Army Reserve time,

EASLEY — Benny Hanson, 70, loving husband of 51 years to Shirley Hanson, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 3, 2022, at his home.

GEORGE BONEY

PICKENS — Mr. George Boney, 95, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at his home.

George was born in Cades on Dec. 6, 1926, to the late George and Lucy Bracy Boney. He went to school in Sumter and graduated from Edmunds High School in June 1944.

George served in the Army Air Corps and later in the Air Force. He worked as a watchmaker at Pace Jewelers in Pickens from 1954 until he retired. George was a member of Pickens Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the men’s chorus. He also served on the Pickens City Council from 1983-2003.

PICKENS — Mr. Roger John Lindsay, 82, loving husband of Judy Lindsay, passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2022, at his residence.

Roger was born in Spartanburg, on Feb. 23, 1940, to the late John and Vivian Caldwell Lindsay. In the 1950s, he held the South Carolina state high jump record for 10 years.
