LIBERTY — Joyce Garrett Patterson, 83, beloved wife of 63 years to Dennis Patterson, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Rosa Stasney Garrett.

Joyce was a dedicated and faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, where she served as secretary for many years. She was a true southern Christian woman with a heart of gold and unconditional love that she spread far and wide. Being a coach’s wife for numerous years, she enjoyed preparing large meals after the ballgames and taking care of the team as though they were her family. PICKENS — Mr. Timothy Sullivan, 80, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022.

Mr. Sullivan was born on March 25, 1942, to the late Eugene and Margaret Sullivan. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he taught Bible study and Sunday school, drove the bus for the children’s ministry and was on various church committees. Timothy owned his own electrical engineering business, Magnecomp Inc.

EASLEY — Mr. Mendel Ray Masters, 91, husband of the late Betty Cannon Masters, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Russell Snow Masters and the late Lois Grant Masters, Mr. Masters was a graduate of Easley High School and North Greenville College. He retired as personnel director from Alice Manufacturing with 41 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Masters was a member of many organizations, including the State Chamber of Commerce, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, the South Carolina Textile Manufacturers Association and the Pickens Area Personnel Association, where he served as a former president. KATHRYN EDDINGS JOHNSON

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Kathryn Eddings Johnson (Kathy), 94, formerly of Statesville, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2022 at Atrium Pineville Hospital in Charlotte.

Born in Pickens on Sept. 13, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Bates Eddings and Edna Gravely Eddings. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesville and spent much of her early career as a church secretary. She also worked at the U.S. Geological Survey in Raleigh and Hunter Realty and Boan Building in Statesville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Leath C. Johnson.

Survivors include a son, Rick Johnson and his wife, Nunthany; a daughter, Lisa J. Morgan and her husband, Donald; along with two grandchildren, Chase Morgan (Christina) and Conner Morgan. Several nieces and nephews and grand-dogs also survive.

Kathy was a devoted wife and mother. She was selfless, kind and accepting of everyone around her.

Services celebrating Kathy’s life were conducted on June 18 at Nicholson Funeral Home, with Rev. James Lewis officiating. The burial was held at Oakwood Cemetery.

SHARON ‘SHERRY’ CURTIS

PICKENS — Sharon Kay “Sherry” Curtis, 59, wife of Matthew Allan Barnes passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Mrs. Curtis was the daughter of the late Janie Elizabeth Youngblood Curtis and Wallace Edward Curtis. She was very creative and very generous, also loved arts and crafts, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. She always put others first and was a member of Glassy Mountain Church.

Survivors include her husband, Matthew Barnes; three sisters, Sandy Curtis, Khristy Curtis and Tracy James (Richard) all of Pickens; two brothers, Randy Curtis of Abbeville and Ronnie Curtis (Melissa) of Pickens; and many special nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on June 17, at Glassy Mountain Church, with funeral services following.

Mrs. Curtis was predeceased by her parents and nephew, Todd Blair.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Glassy Mountain Church, 1103 Farrs Bridge Road, Pickens SC 29671.

JIMMY A. RICHARDSON

EASLEY — Jimmy Alan Richardson, 70, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022, at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Collins Forrest “Richard” Richardson and Nellie “Nell” Pauline Chappell Richardson.

Jimmy worked with Bi-Lo and Winn Dixie for over 30 years and retired from Bi-Lo. He enjoyed fishing, loved cars and racing.

Surviving are his children, April Renee Dial (David) of Greer, Nathan A. Richardson of Easley and Ashley Lindsey of Piedmont; grandchildren, Skylar  Richardson, Raigan Loudermilk, Bryson Dial, Blake Richardson, Jordan Richardson, Eden Dial, Emerson Dial, Adelyn Murray, Ashby Murray and many adopted grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Richardson of Easley and Randy Richardson of Easley; and a sister, Sandra Farrow of Easley.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m., at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

A memorial service to honor Jimmy’s life will be held at 4 p.m., on Friday, June 17, 2022, in the funeral home chapel.
