Courier Obits 8-1-18

J. CURTIS HUNTER

LIBERTY — John Curtis Hunter Jr, 77, of Liberty, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

A native of Central, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Curtis and Sarah Frances “Fannie” Satterfield Hunter.

Curtis, known as “dozerman,” worked in construction all of his working life and was known for his skill working with bulldozers. He and his wife loved bowling and traveling in the mountains. He attended Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

There is far too little space and words to describe the love and joy he brought to so many lives. He will be greatly missed, but Heaven is not too far away!

BETTY JANE BRADFORD-LAWSON

EASLEY — Betty Jane Bradford-Lawson, of Easley, was born on April 27, 1933, in Washington, D.C., and she went home to be with her lord and savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at her home.

She completed her education with a GED, and she was a manager in the food service industry for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, doing word search puzzles and playing on her computer, and she loved caring for her pets and her flowers. Most importantly, Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and her grandchildren.

She moved to Easley from Altoona, Pa., in 2003 and attended Greer Memorial Baptist Church whenever she was able to.

EASLEY — Ruby Anderson Fisher, 98, of Mark Street, wife of the late Romie Wilson Fisher, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018.

Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Hann Anderson.

Mrs. Fisher was a homemaker and member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed growing beautiful flowers.

RONNIE REX “RON” BLACK

CENTRAL — Ron Black, 72, of 480 Pin du Lac Drive in Central, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 7, 2018.

Ron is survived by his wife, Laura Neath Black; daughter, Leanne Broome (Devon); stepson, John Vinson; grandsons, Ransom and Oron; sister, Elaine Memmott (Richard); and first wife and special friend, Sandy Alexander (Jimmie), who both provided non-stop support, prayers and encouragement.

Ron was born in Greenville, on Jan. 28, 1946, to Lang and Jessie Black. After graduating in 1965 from Carolina High School, Ron furthered his education by attending Mars Hill University (BA), Converse College (M.Ed.) and Clemson University (Ed.S.). As an educator for 38 years, Ron touched the lives of many in the School District of Pickens County before retiring in 2007.

LIBERTY — Mary Jeanette Burgess, 84, passed from this life Thursday, June 21, 2018, in Liberty.

Born in Central, she was the daughter of the late Toy Herbert Head and Mary Alice Berry.

Mary was the owner of Jeanette’s Beauty Shop, a previous member of Faith Baptist Church and a present member of Carolina Community Church.

SIX MILE — Helen Virginia Alexander, 90, wife of the late Eugene Alexander, passed from this life Friday, June 15, 2018.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Kay Kelley and the late Matilda Finley Kelley.

Mrs. Alexander was a faithful member of Keowee Baptist Church, where she enjoyed worshipping the God she loved very much. She was known for her love of her family, being an avid gardener, a seamstress, an excellent cook and her puzzle books.

Alice Owens

EASLEY — Mary Alice S. Owens, 72, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 8, 2018.

Born in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Hugh Dent Spivey and the late Ruth Nunn Burrell, she was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading, music and crafts.

Mrs. Owens was a member of Bessie Road Baptist Church.

Joyce Hayes Forbes

CENTRAL — Joyce Hayes Forbes passed away on May 29, 2018.

She was born June 13, 1957, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Edward Hayes and Cecelia Isham. She attended Broward Community College obtaining an associates degree before transferring to Barry University.

While there, she met her husband, Carter Forbes, and they married on Aug. 18, 1979. After marrying Carter, they moved to Nassau, Bahamas, where the couple had three children.

The family resided there for 20 years before returning to the United States, living in Marietta, Ga., for many years before ending up in Central.

Joyce loved raising her children in a godly household, being actively involved in church ministry and cooking. She loved the latter so much that she recently graduated with a certificate in culinary arts from Virginia College. She was definitely a Jane of all trades.

She was preceded in death by her father and is survived by her mother.

She is survived by her beloved husband Carter; her three children, Carter Forbes Jr., Jennifer Bryant and Joy Forbes; her twin sister, Judith Davis (Rev. Fredrick Davis) and older twin sisters, LaTriece Fuller and Elise Gainor (William Gainor); her uncle, Abraham Isham (Gloria Isham), and aunt, Alberta Isham; her three grandchildren, Carter Forbes III, Anthony Bryant Jr. and Jada Bryant; her son-in-law, A.J. Bryant, and daughter in-law, Terese Forbes; her sister-in-law, Helen Davis; and brothers-in-law, Robert and Larry Forbes. She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends in the United States and The Bahamas.

Tammy Lamar Gaillard

SENECA — Tammy L. Gaillard, of 116 S. Cove Road in Seneca, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

She was born in Greenville and was the daughter of Balus Lamar and Vivian A. Talley Gaillard.

She is survived by sisters, Deborah G. DeYoung and Ginger G. Beverage.

Memorial services were held June 1 at Oconee Memorial Park Mausoleum chapel.
