Hilda “Hoot” McCall
Easley — Hilda LaVerne Gillespie McCall passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Anderson, she was the widow of J.D. McCall and a daughter of the late Lonnie and Lessie Gore Gillespie.
She owned and operated Hoot’s Bar & Grill in Pickens for many years, and she also owned and drove her own race car at multiple racetracks across the Upstate.
Surviving are a daughter, Carla McAllister (Ronnie) of Greenwood; two sisters, Betty Gillespie and Margaret Cockrell, both of Newberry; a brother, Lonnie Gillespie Jr. of Enid, Okla.; a

Rickey Carver
Central — Rickey E. Carver, 64, of Central, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Carver was born in Oconee County and was the son of the late Lee Ronald and Margie Goss Carver. He was a master plumber and electrician with Beckwith Plumbing Company in Clemson and attended Five Point Church in Easley.
Surviving are his wife, Lisa Parker Carver; one son, Tyler Lloyd of the home;

Ralph Zeigler Boroughs
PICKENS — Ralph “Zig” Zeigler Boroughs, of Pickens, passed away Friday Sept. 15, 2017, at Cannon Memorial Hospital, with his wife Mary Jennings Boroughs (nee Dougherty) at his side.
He was born June 22, 1923, the son of Ralph Waldo Boroughs of Pickens and Zoe Boroughs (nee Zeigler) of Orangeburg County.
Zig was raised in Pickens. He attended Columbia Bible College and the Citadel. In WWII, he served with the U.S. Army’s 508th Paratrooper Regiment, 82nd Airborne, in Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, he served as a public school teacher and administrator in upstate South Carolina, a Baptist minister in upstate New York and a professor at Lander University.
He earned an A.B. from Furman University, a B.D. from New Orleans Theological Seminary, a M.Ed. from Clemson University and a doctorate from the University of Georgia.

Blanche L. Martin
Easley — Flora Blanche Lesley Martin, 83, wife of the late Dorsie R. Martin Sr., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Ira B. Lesley.
Mrs. Martin was a lifelong member of Corinth Baptist Church. She was a very talented seamstress and worked for several retail stores including, Alexander Drug Store, Kmart and Gay’s Clothing and also worked with Swirl Manufacturing.
Surviving are her children, Flora Emma Nell Martin Taylor (Sammy), Myrtie Diann Martin James and Dorsie R. Martin, Jr. (April) all of Easley; grandchildren, Bridget James (Mark), Megan Mclane (Allen), Tammy

Easley — Mr. Sidney Francis “Skip” Acker Jr., 66, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017.

Joe H. Lesley
Easley — Joe Harrison Lesley, 77, of Easley, known to many as “Hot Dog,” went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017.
Born Oct. 9, 1939, in Easley, the son of the late Jack and Blanche Hughey Lesley, Joe was a graduate of Easley High School and attended North Greenville Junior College.
Joe was the proud and well known owner and operator of Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor. He received the Small Business of the Year award and served on the Cornerstone Bank Advisory Board. Joe had a passion for sports, where he was a frequent spectator, and was inducted into the Easley High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a faithful member of Easley First Baptist Church, where he belonged to the ER Eller Sunday School class.

Pickens — Edward L. Scruggs, 85, the husband of Juanita C. Scruggs, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 26, 2017.
