EDNA CHAPMAN DAVIS
PICKENS — Edna Chapman Davis, age 73, wife of the late Richard Earl Davis, died Tuesday Sept. 17, 2013 at Greenville Health System.
Mrs. Davis was born in Transylvania, N.C. a daughter of the late Ora Stamey Chapman and Richard Chapman. Mrs. Davis loved her family and was a loyal Nascar fan.

Arthur Ray Martin
Six Mile — Arthur Ray Martin, 70, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at his home.
Ray was born in Elkin, N.C., son of the late Marvin J. and Dorothy Simmons Martin. He was President of Industrial Instrument Company, and was widely respected in the systems control industry. He had traveled extensively, both nationally and internationally on consulting and engineering applications, especially in the paper industry. Ray was also well known for his wildlife habitat enhancement and his love of farming. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and a member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church.

Lisa Edith Roper Arnold
Easley — Lisa Edith Roper Arnold, age 50, wife of Jeffery Scott Arnold died Monday Sept. 2, 2013 at her home.
She was the daughter of Mary Edith Boswell Roper of Easley, and the late Hardy Roper, Jr. Mrs. Arnold was born Aug. 22, 1963 in Greenville. Mrs. Arnold was a member of Abundant Grace Church of God. She loved her family and also her pets.
Survivors include her husband, mother one brother; Mark Adcox and his wife

Avenell Hunter Welborn
Easley — Avenell Hunter Welborn, 84, of Easley, wife of the late Joe B. Welborn, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Rev. Fred B. and Mattie Powell Hunter, Mrs. Welborn graduated from Easley High School in 1946 and also graduated from Draughans Business School. She retired from the Payroll Department of Alice Manufacturing Company after 32 years of service and attended St. Andrew United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Lucille Searcy Sunday School Class. Mrs. Welborn was a volunteer with Baptist Easley Hospital for seven years.
Surviving are a son, Arden Welborn (Theresa Hanebrink); granddaughter, Jessica Laura Welborn; sister, Frances Turner; brother, Garvin Hunter (Carol); four nieces and nephews, four great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew.

Carl A. Bearden
Easley — Carl Adams Bearden, 91, husband of the late Shirley Marie Barrett Bearden, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Mr. Bearden was born in Oconee County, a son of the late Joseph Freeman and Carrie Etta Baygents Bearden. He graduated from Walhalla High School and subsequently joined the U.S. Navy. At age 20, he was serving in the Panama Canal Zone when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He served 20 years in the Navy, also stationed in Pensacola, Fla., Norfolk, Va., and aboard the U.S.S. Cabot (CVL-28) aircraft carrier. In July of 1946, Carl and Shirley were married at the U. S. Naval Air Station Chapel in Pensacola. They were together for 63 happy years. In 1959 Mr. Bearden went to work for the Argonne National Laboratory outside Chicago and in 1967 returned to South Carolina where he worked at Donaldson Center in Greenville and later for Platt Saco Lowell in Easley. Irene Holton
Easley — Irene Elizabeth Simmons Porter Holton died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at the age of 84.
A loving mother and grandmother, she was a blessing to all who knew her. Born in Greenville County on Oct. 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Isham Elijah and Iola Epps Simmons, she also enjoyed living in Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia as well as South Carolina. Irene was a gifted artist, open to adventure, and faced each chapter of her life with a cheerful and optimistic spirit. Gloria Rhodes
Easley — Gloria Jean Rhodes, 65, of Easley died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Greenville County, the daughter of Jesse Rhodes and the late Matilda (Tillie) Alexander Rhodes. She worked for Pickens County Better Skills and was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her father, are a brother, Eugene Rhodes (Mary); a nephew, Bobby Rhodes (Tina); four great nieces and nephews, Jacob Dale, Breanna Nicole, Candice, and Jamie Smith.

Forrest Bagwell
Pickens — Forrest Lee Bagwell, 86 of Pickens, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at McCall Hospice House of Greenville.
Forrest was born in Easley, a son of the late Forrest Lee and Hazel Atkins Bagwell. He was retired from Union Bleachery in Greenville and was a member of The Pickens Church of God. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he was an active member of The American Legion, Post 11 in Pickens where he served as chaplain, and Seniors Unlimited of Pickens.
Survivors include a brother, Earley Bagwell of Pickens, and a sister Frances Breazeale and her husband Carl of Fountain Inn. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Flora Elizabeth Aiken Ross
Rocky Bottom — Mrs. Flora Elizabeth Aiken Ross, widow of the late William A. “Gus” Ross, died on July 23, 2013, after several years of declining health.
Mrs. Ross was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Rocky Bottom, and was raised by her mother, Myra Ellen Aiken, in the home of her grandparents, Waymon and Elizabeth Aiken. She lived in her beloved Rocky Bottom her entire life, working at the former 4-H Camp when she was younger and then raising her children and keeping her home in later years. She was a charter member of Rocky Bottom Baptist Church and served as church clerk for over 40 years. She was also part of the Rocky Bottom Trio with her husband, Gus, and daughter, Sandra, and loved to sing for the Lord, a trait she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ross contributed the “Rocky Bottom News” to local papers for decades and was affectionately regarded as “Mrs. Mayor” by the citizens of Rocky Bottom because of her love for her community. Her wonderful neighbors and friends of Rocky Bottom loved her in return and cared for her as well, which is why Mrs. Ross was able to live there independently until the age of 88. Ruth E. Morris
Pickens — Ruth Ellen Coleman Morris, 80, widow of George Edward Morris, died Monday, July 15, 2013.
Mrs. Morris was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Fred and Bertha McKinna Coleman. She was a homemaker and a member of Midway Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn Sue O’Shields (Wayne) of Sunset, Jennifer Kay Goff (Robert) of Pumpkintown and Jacqueline Ann Richards (Ed) of Greer. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and sisters, Wilma Gillespie and Betty Bowie both of Pickens.
