Courier Obituaries 7-17-13

SHERRY MATHIS

CENTRAL — Sherry Ford Mathis, 48, of 1082 Maw Bridge Road died Monday at her residence.

Born in Brevard, N.C., she was the widow of the late Timothy Paul Mathis. She was a homemaker and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are her father, James Ford, Sr. of Bowman, Ga.; her mother and step father, Shirley Webster Radke and Mike Radke of Scottsboro, Ala.; two daughters, Alexis and Lacey Mathis of the home; a son, Devin Mathis of Liberty; a sister, Jennifer Kilgore of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; and a brother, James Ford, Jr.(Teresa) of Piedmont.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Joshua Ford.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mathis were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Westview Cemetery in Liberty.

Dee Blackwell

Easley — Devonne “Dee” Camp Blackwell, 49, of Vine Street, died Friday, June 28, 2013 at her home.

Born in Burlington, N.C. she was the daughter of the Rev. Denny and Maxine Hilliard Camp of Easley. Dee was retired from the Pickens County School District. She worked at the district office and then taught at Dacusville Elementary, Pickens Elementary, East End Elementary, Liberty Elementary and Chastain Road Elementary. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Greenville and was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens.

Martha McGaha

Pickens — Martha Chambers McGaha, 90, widow of Lem Carmel McGaha, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013.

Mrs. MaGaha was born in Anderson County a daughter of the late John and Lou Holcombe Chambers. She was formerly employed as a nurse’s aide at Harvey’s Love and Care Home in Six Mile. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church and attended Morningstar Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Ann Goodwin (Sammy) of Pickens and Rebecca Burrell (James) of Liberty, and sons Floyd McGaha (Hazel) and Johnny McGaha (Cheryl) all of Pickens and Marshall McGaha of Greenville. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

Lloyd Lee Cantrell

Pickens — Lloyd Lee Cantrell, age 80, husband of Betty Robinson Cantrell, died Saturday June 15, 2013 at his home. Mr. Cantrell was born in Pickens County a son of the late Verdie Alexander Cantrell and Walter Troy Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was retired from Ryobi in Pickens, a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, one daughter; Sherry Cantrell of Pickens, one son; Robin Cantrell of Pickens, two brothers; Ernest E. Cantrell of Sunset, Willie T. Cantrell of Monks Corner, several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cantrell was predeceased by his parents and one sister Mathree Warren.

Funeral Service was Monday, June 17 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Dillard Funeral Home. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Tonya R. Reid

Six Mile — Tonya Renee Reid, 35, of 374 Gin Shoals Road died on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of Ronald Edward and Judy Stone Reid. Tonya was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to her parents are a brother, Kevin Reid of Pickens; sisters, Keila Touzeau (Marty) and Ashley Reid both of Pickens; nieces Kaitlin Touzeau and Addie Reid; and a nephew, Landen Touzeau.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 8 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central. Burial followed in Gap Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Easley — Carly and Sawyer Simpson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.

Roger R. Rollins

Central – Roger Ramsey Rollins, 63, of 425 Gaines Street and husband for 46 years of Liz M. Rodgers Rollins died Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Ramsey Smith and Lola Boggs Rollins.  Roger was a crew foreman with Systems Specialties Inc and attended Six Mile Baptist Church.  He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Rodney Ramsey Rollins (Amy) of Six Mile; daughters, Angie E. Richards (Donnie) of Pendleton, Annette C. Holder (Michael) of Six Mile, and Jill M. Mack of Anderson; brother, Bob Rollins of Pendleton; sister, Reba Simpson of Central; grandchildren, Jessica Thach, Paul Richards, Christopher Holder, Hannah Holder, Nicole and Christina Rollins, Joshua Rollins, Damian and Domenic Turley.

Christine S. Satterfield

 Pickens — Christine Stone Satterfield, 84, formerly of Red Hill Road, wife of the late Alfred Bennett Satterfield, died Thursday, May 16, 2013.

 Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lucille Bearden Stone. Mrs. Satterfield was retired from Sangamo Electric and was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

 Surviving are her children, A. Bennett Satterfield (Bernice) of Oakway and Judy Spivey (Phil) of Easley; grandchildren, Chadwick Satterfield, Christy Peters, Lindsay Campbell, and Celeste Smith; and 10 great grandchildren.

 Mrs. Satterfield was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Austin Stone, Billy Stone and T.N. Stone.

Marvin J. Lewis

Pickens — Marvin J. Lewis, 63, husband of Wendy Howard Lewis, of Pickens, died Thursday evening, May 9, 2013.

Marvin was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Berce William and Alberta (Bertie) Massingale Lewis. He formerly worked in textiles as a weaver and he was a member of Pickens Independent Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wendy of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Coates and Randall of Pickens and grandson, Justin Coates. Also surviving are step-children, Katherine Heavlin, Shalane Tompkins, and Dolly Brannen, sister, Betty Haynes, nephew, Joe Hendricks, great nieces, Josie, Hope, and Heather Hendricks, and great great nephew, Weston McJunkins.

 PFC Barrett L. Austin

 Easley — PFC Barrett Lyle Austin, 20, of Easley, died April 21, 2013 in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries sustained when his vehicle was attacked by an enemy improvised explosive device in Wardak Province, Afghanistan, April 17. He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. PFC Austin was born in Easley on Nov. 10, 1992 to Curt and Yolanda Buck Austin. He was a 2011 graduate of Pickens High School and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.

Surviving in addition to his parents is his wife, Heather Hooker Austin of Fort Stewart, Ga.; two sisters, Summer Harris and Jordan Austin both of Easley; a nephew, Machen Harris of Easley; grandparents, Don and Betty Austin of Pickens and Benny and Helen Buck of Darlington; his great grandmother, Gertie Jones of Darlington; his uncles and aunts, Donnie and Rhonda Austin of Pickens and Ernie and Rita Buck of Darlington.
