Obituaries for the week of April 25
Ken Maxey
Norris — Jessie Kenneth “Ken” Maxey, 70, of 302 Robinson Bridge Road, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012.
Born in the Ebenezer Community of Oconee County he was a son of the late Jessie James and Della Holbrooks Maxey. Ken retired from Liberty Life Insurance Company after 28 years, was a former Mayor of Norris for eight years, and was a founding member of the Norris Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 42 years. He was member of Tate Masonic Lodge, #292 A.F.M., a member of Fairview Baptist Church, and was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. Ken was a family man who loved his wife and children, and adored his grandchildren who were the light of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Glenda Pinion Maxey of the home; a daughter and son in law, April and John Bragg of Lexington; two sons and daughters in law, Alan and Wanda Maxey of Greer, and Kevin and Cindy Maxey of Easley; a sister, Christine Pilgrim of Central; a brother, Bobby Maxey of Norris; six grandchildren, Jessie, Abigale, Lawson, and Kade Maxey, and Judson and Avery Bragg.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Maxey were 3 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family welcomed any member of the fire service to be honorary escorts.

Christopher David Logan
Greenville — Christopher David Logan, 30, husband of Lori Redding Logan, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012.
Born in Pickens, he was a son of Donna Jean Davis Ballard. Mr. Logan was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are two brothers, Derrick Logan and Seth Ballard; and grandparents, Donald and Emma Jean Davis and loving family.
The funeral service was at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 in the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Danny Ray Maw, Jr.
Easley — Mr. Danny Ray Maw, Jr., 37, of 512 Slickum Rd., husband of Karen Clark Maw, died Palm Sunday, April 1, 2012.
Born Dec. 10, 1974 in Greenville County, he was a son of Danny Ray Maw, Sr. of Sandy Flats and Julia Bulman Lee of Belton. Ray was an Aircraft Mechanic at Lockheed Martin with over 12 years of service. He was a follower of Jesus who shared The Gospel and had a heart for the less fortunate. His wife and children were the center of his life.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 14 years, Ray is survived by his children, Samuel Karsten Maw and Jordyn McKenzie Maw; brother, Tommy Maw of Simpsonville, sister, Susan Medlin of Simpsonville and paternal grandmother, Beatrice Bowers of Travelers Rest.
He was predeceased by his adoptive mother, Yvonne Watson and grandfather, Raymond Bulman.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, April 6 at Life Church in Dacusville with Pastor Chad Albertson and Pastor Terry Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Richard Dale Nelson, Jr.
Pickens — Richard Dale Nelson, Jr. was born without heartbeat on March 22, 2012 at Palmetto Baptist, Easley.
“Dale Jr.” is the cherished son of Dale Nelson and Hannah Abel.
He is greeted in Heaven by his Grandmother Betty Sue Shirley and mourned on Earth by his Grandmother Donna Hayes of Pickens; Grandfathers, Thomas Abel of Pickens and Richard A. Nelson, of Six Mile; Great Grandparents, Randall and Virginia Phillips of Easley; Heyward and Joyce Hayes of Pickens; and Earlene Abel of Simpsonville; Aunts, Jennifer Ramey of Pickens and Dawn Nelson of Piedmont; Cousins, John-Thomas Ramey of Easley; Austin and Alyza Nelson of Piedmont; and God Parents, Tina Hayes and Donnie O’Donald of Greenville; and many more family and friends.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Mother and Father will be at their residence.
Hannah and Dale would like to thank Dr. Fox of Mountain View OB/GYN and all Hospital Staff in the birthing wing for their concern, compassion and support.

Liberty — Jaelyn Mae Pilgrim, infant daughter of Britnie Noel Pilgrim, died Monday, March 19, 2012.
She is survived by a large loving extended family.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church, Norris. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Johnnie Stewart
Easley — Mr. Johnnie Dorsey Stewart, 84, husband of Faye Ford Stewart, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Major and Sadie Dorsey Stewart, Mr. Stewart was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII, retired from Vulcan Materials and attended Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 59 years are a son, Ronnie Stewart and his wife Bonnie of Easley; one brother, Carl Stewart of Liberty; three sisters, Grace Hawkins of Liberty and Enid Jones and Vivian Stewart, both of Pickens; two grandchildren, Shay Stewart Vinson and her husband Derek and Chad Stewart; and two great-grandchildren, Landen and Laney Vinson.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Eleanor Ruth Smith
Central — Eleanor Ruth Holliday Smith, 87, of 294 Knollview Road died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at her residence.
Born in Six Mile she was the widow of Homer Charles Smith and a daughter of the late Vester Henry and Lillie Kelley Holliday. She retired from Pratt Reed and her hobbies included gardening, flowers, and quilting. She was a longtime member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Norma Aiken and her husband Ronnie of Easley, and Nancy McJunkin of the home; a son, Kenneth Smith and his wife of Central; a sister in law, Martha Stancil of Liberty; two grandchildren, Kevin & Ashley Smith.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Smith were 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gap Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Carmon Cassell
Pickens — Amos Carmon Cassell, 75, husband of Faye Hoxit Cassell, died Thursday, March 1, 2012.
Carmon was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Robert and Bertha Cassell. He was retired from Holly Springs Elementary School as custodian and also was a bus driver for 14 years. He was a member of Eastatoe Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Faye of the home, step-son Markus Bates of Pickens, step daughters Frinda Jackson of Westminster, and Opal Bates of Liberty, five grandchildren Jason, Christy, Jeremy, Joseph and Jessica and one great grandchild. Also surviving are brothers, Cartee Cassell and Clifton Cassell both of Pickens and sisters, Christine Lewis and Carrie Lee Lewis both of Pickens and Cleon Meece of Easley.
Funeral services were conducted 3 p.m. Monday, March 5 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ann Holder
Pickens — Cynthia “Ann” Bolding Holder, 50, of 403 Garvin Street, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012.
Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Margaret Norris Bolding of Pickens and the late Charles Bolding. Ann was a homemaker and member of Bethany Church of God.
Surviving is her husband, George H. Holder of the home; a daughter, April Dodgens (Stephen) of Pickens; a son, Matt Holder (Misty) of Pickens; three grandchildren, Madison, Maggie-Grace, and Jonathan Holder; and a brother, Stanley Bolding.
In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a brother, Sammy Bolding.
A service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cedar Hill Holiness Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

MILDRED HUDSON
GREENWOOD — Mildred Brezeale Hudson, 86, 110 Sylvan Road, widow of J. Floyd Hudson, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 peacefully at her home.
Born in Pickens, she was a daughter of the late Riley Odell and Neta Porter Brezeale. She was retired from Kemet Electronics and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class and The Friendship Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Jacks of Toccoa, Ga. and Jane Crittendon of the home; a son, Donald Hudson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Kathryn Wardlaw of Pendleton and Judy McKinley of Central; four grandchildren, Stephanie Turner (Mickey) of Toccoa, Michael Crittendon (Susie) of Greenwood, Hal Jacks and Justin Jacks, both of Toccoa; granddaughter-in-law, Sherry Crittendon; 10 great grandchildren, Brittni, Trevor and Gavin Crittendon of Pelzer, Samantha Crittendon of Greenwood, Wesley Stivers of Foxworth, Miss., Lanny, Matthew and Donavin Turner of Toccoa, Eric Whittington of Greenwood and Alyssa Jacks of Martinez, Ga. and her loving caregiver, Yvonne Spearman of the home.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Barry Hudson; a grandson, Chip Crittendon; a sister, Lillian Fender and two brothers, Charles Brezeale and Van Brezeale.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Thomas officiating. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum, Pickens.
Pallbearers were Michael Crittendon, Justin Jacks, Trevor Crittendon, Brian Turnbloom, Joey Thompson and Bill Starnes.
Honorary escort were members of the Ladies Bible Class of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and nurses of HospiceCare of the Piedmont.
