Obituaries for week of February 16

Earle E. Morris Jr.

LEXINGTON — Mr. Earle E. Morris, Jr., 82, was born July 14, 1928, in Pickens and died on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011.
He was the son of Earle E. Morris, Sr. and Bernice Carey Morris. Mr. Morris was educated in the Pickens Public Schools. Mr. Morris was a member of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church, Columbia, Elder and Clerk of Session, former Deacon; and Trustee, Synod of South Carolina; Trustee and Former Chairman, Board of Insurance, Annuities and Relief, Presbyterian Church in America. Mr. Morris was elected at age 21 as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1951 to 1955. He was elected to the South Carolina Senate from 1955 to 1971 and Former Chairman of the Joint Committee on Mental Health and Mental Retardation from 1959 to 1970. Mr. Morris was elected as Lieutenant Governor on Nov. 3, 1970 for a four year term, 1971 to 1975 and was a Member, South Carolina Mental Health Commission from 1975 to 1976. Mr. Morris was elected Comptroller General, June 16, 1976 and re-elected, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990 and 1994. He retired as South Carolina Comptroller General in 1999. Mr. Morris received many awards and recognitions: 2000 Vice President, Financial Accounting Foundations, 1999 Appointed Honorary Consul by the Republic of Korea, 1997 Clemson Medallion by Clemson University, 1997 Living Legend Award by the South Carolina Historical Foundation, 1995 Frank Greathouse Distinguished Leadership Award by the National Association of Government Accountants, 1993 Nation’s Most Valuable Public Official by City & State Magazine, Listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Government, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in American Politics, Who’s Who in Business and Finance, Distinguished Service Awards: presented by SC Mental Health Association, SC Association for Retarded Children, SC Rehabilitation Association, SC Aurora Clubs for the Blind and SC Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Professionals; Distinguished Alumnus, Clemson University, Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, Clemson University, Certificate of Appreciation: South Carolina Hospital Association, Distinguished Service Award, SC Association of Extension Agents, Order of the Trilon, Tri-County Technical College, Public Service Award, SC Association of Certified Public Accountants, Distinguished Friend of State Employees, presented by State Employees Association, Donald L. Mr. Morris was a loving husband and father to his wife, Carol Telford Morris of Lexington; children, Lynda Lewis Still (Shannon), Carey Mauldin Anthony (Buddy), Elizabeth McDaniel Holder (Jeff), Earle E. Morris, III (Diana); seven grandchildren, Ashley Crawford, Kristen Pirkle, Jonathan Holder, Jacob Holder, Noah Morris, Tori Morris and Lucca Vitale; great-grandchild, Morgan Crawford and many special friends including Saied Darvish and Jennifer Vitale.

Zona Hallums Ladd
Easley — Mrs. Zona Hallums Ladd, 94, formerly of 201 West B Avenue, wife of the late R.L. Ladd, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Majesty Health and Rehabilitation, Easley.
Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Wesley and Dora Collins Hallums, Mrs. Ladd worked for the Grantham family for 40 years prior to which she worked for the family of L.R. Poole.  She is known by many people for keeping children at the Easley Bowling Alley.  She was a lifelong member of Easley Union Baptist Church where she was a former deaconess, usher and member of the Missionary Auxillary.  Mrs. Ladd was also a member of the White Rose Garden Club.
Surviving are a son, Terry Smith (Cynthia) of Easley; step-son, Reginald Ladd (Elenor) of Atlanta; a son raised in the home, Andrew Ladd (Wendy) of Charlotte; a sister, Pearlie Gamble of Greenville; special daughter, Dottie Grantham of Easley; her God-daughter, Betty Jo Gambrell of Easley; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Ladd was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Johnson; and by two brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday at Easley Union Baptist Church with the Rev. C.L. Cruell officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Haskell Charles Galbreath

Pickens — Haskell Charles “Hank” Galbreath, 78, of 174 Porter Road died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at his residence.
Born in Easley, he was the husband of Geraldine Rich Galbreath of the home, and a son of the late Edgar Bruce and Grace Ellenburg Galbreath. Hank was a 1950 graduate of Easley High School and afterwards he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served our country during the Korean War. He was the owner of Western Auto in Pickens which later became known as Haskell Corp. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Debbie Fowler of Liberty and Suzanne Smith of Six Mile; three sons Mike Galbreath of Titusville, Fla., Brian Galbreath of Toccoa, Ga. and Bruce Galbreath of Easley; a stepson, Jerry Clark of Liberty; two sisters, Barbara Ellis of Easley and Shelby Hawkins of Greenville; 10 Grandchildren, Misty Kearney, Jason Fowler, Katie Estes, Shawn, Jennifer, Katelyn, Kim and Kaley Galbreath, and Brittany and Jacob Smith; great grandchildren, Zachary Sanders, Andre and Haley Bergeron, Ashton Kearney, Jayden Parker and Nolan Galbreath.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Rhonda Galbreath; a stepdaughter Jan Rathgeb; a son Joseph Mark Galbreath; two brothers, Chris and Jack Galbreath; and a great grandchild, Haiden Parker.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Galbreath were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lee C. Fowler

Liberty — Lee C. Fowler, 90, of Liberty, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011 at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Liberty he was a son of the late Frank and Mattie Hinton Fowler. He retired from the U. S. Air Force and had previously served in the U.S. Army as well. He served his country during World War II and later the Korean War. After his military service he later retired from Woodside Mill and attended Smith Chapel Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Gilstrap Fowler of the home; two sons and daughters in law, Stanley and Yvonne Fowler, and Randall and Gloria Fowler all of Liberty; a brother, Earl Fowler of Liberty; five grandchildren, Stacey Kitchens, Stephanie Cope, Dustin Fowler, Amanda Fowler, and Lauren Fowler; two great grandchildren, Kristen and Zane Kitchens.
Graveside services with full military honors for Mr. Fowler were 4 p.m. Saturday at Westview Cemetery, Liberty.

Shirley D. Childress
Easley — Shirley Ann Dalton Childress, 72, of 125 May Street, wife of the late James Roy Childress, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011 at her home.
Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Earl Dalton and Beatrice Holbrooks Dalton. Mrs. Childress was formerly employed with Stayon and was a member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church.
Surviving is her son, Steve Childress (Martha) of Easley; two grandchildren, Bradley and Jennifer; two great grandchildren, Devon and Joey; six sisters, Glenda Finley, Linda Kennemore, Susie Durham, Judy Gillespie and Mary Lesley all of Easley and Bobbie Fox of Greenville; two brothers, Wayne Dalton and Ricky Dalton of Easley; and her companion and longtime friend, B.F. Evatt.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two children, James Bradley Childress and Kathy Marie Childress, two sisters, Ann Black and Ellen Seigle, and a brother, Jimmy Dalton.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Cedar Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

Melvin Eugene Heaton, Sr.

Pickens — Mr. Melvin Eugene Heaton, Sr. 74, husband of Mrs. Martha Joan Cheek Heaton, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at his home.
Born in Oconee County, a son of the late Mack and Pearl Calhoun Heaton, Mr. Heaton retired from G.E., served in the U.S. Navy, and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the home, are two sons, James Chuck Heaton and Melvin Eugene Heaton, Jr. (Deanna), all of Easley; one daughter, Debbie Pelt (Billy) of Easley; one brother, Curtis Heaton of Seneca; one sister, Linda Crane of Westminister; and seven grandchildren, Mitzi Burgess, Shane Heaton, Brandon Heaton, Stephanie Heaton, Meagan Heaton, Austin Cordell, and Brady Cordell.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Heaton was predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Alvin Heaton.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Zane Chastain
Liberty — Betty Zane Hunter Chastain, 80, of 33 N. Commerce Street, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Liberty, she was the widow of George Vernon Chastain and a daughter of the late Ralph and Betty Childs Hunter. Zane was a member of First Baptist Church, Liberty. During her working career she was the owner of Zane’s Place an antique store in Six Mile, was a bowling instructor, and also worked for Barnes Landscaping.
Surviving are a son, George V. Chastain, Jr. and his wife, Jeanne Goodman of Point Marion, Pa.; two grandsons, Jason and Dawson Chastain; three sisters in law, Cindy Hunter, Jean Watson, and June Finley and her husband Quillen; her beloved pet and companion, Alfie; special friends, Howard Ralph, Jr., Patricia Poehl, Buddy Rosado, Rozell Garrison, Patsy Morris, and Caroline Bagwell; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Chastain were 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Entombment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

W. Clarence Simmons
Pickens — William Clarence Simmons, 94, formerly of Woodall Mountain Road, and husband of the late Ida Mae Aiken Simmons, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Earlie C. Simmons and Ollie Hudson Simmons. Mr. Simmons retired as the owner of the Pickens Radiator Shop. He was an active member of Pickens Church of God and the Pickens Senior Center.
Surviving are his children, Wesley Simmons and his wife, Rheba, of Pickens; Mary Ann Hayes and her husband, Theo, of Pickens; and Nancy Peace and her husband, Stan, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Hughes and Doris Childs, of Pickens; and a brother, Garland Simmons, of Pickens.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two sisters, Nina Anderson and Edna Tinsley, and two brothers, Garcie Simmons and Carl Simmons.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Rosemond Living Center for the exceptional care of Mr. Simmons.
A service to celebrate Mr. Simmons’ life was held on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Pickens Church of God. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Weldon Gilbert, Jr.

Pickens — Weldon Gilbert, Jr., 82, of Pickens, died Feb. 2, 2011 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born April 18, 1928 in Gainesville, Ga., he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Gilbert, Sr. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked at the Atlanta Transit Company before moving to Pickens with his family. After moving to Pickens he was employed at Singer and Alice Manufacturing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Ricky Gilbert of Pickens and Dwayne Gilbert of Easley; two daughters, Sharon Whitworth (Victor) and Karon Hickey (Johnny), both of Pickens; three granddaughters and two grandsons.
The family appreciates every act of kindness that has been done during this time.
A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 4 at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. H.C. Couch officiating.

Joseph E. Rauschenbach
Simpsonville — Joseph “Joe” Eugene Rauschenbach, 49, died suddenly at his home, 102 A Alice Avenue, Simpsonville. 
Joe was born in Springfield, Ill., the son of the late Bill Rauschenbach.  He was a 1980 graduate of Pickens Senior High School.  He worked for Southeastern Concrete in Simpsonville. 
Surviving is his Mom, Joan, two brothers, six sisters and 14 nieces and nephews, Mary Bell (Danny), Matt Rauschenbach (Alba), Sue Williams, John Rauschenbach (Kathy), Nancy Bagwell (Avery), Amy Hood (Ralph), Carol Lawson (Rob), Margaret Holder (David). 
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to be made to Pickens County Library House, c/o Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 330, Pickens, SC  29671.
The family will be at the home of his parents at 129 Gail Avenue in Pickens.

Willie “Bill” Joe Murphree
Norris — Willie Joe “Bill” Murphree, 79, of 413 Norris Highway, Norris, husband of the late Alice Erhline Henson Murphree, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Salem, Mr. Murphree was the son of the late William Samuel and Amanda Josephine Barker Murphree. He was retired from Libco Mills and was a member of Stamp Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Murphree was a charter member and past Fire Chief of Norris Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Murphree is survived by daughter, Melissa (Lisa) Routh and husband, Gary of Sandy, Utah; brother, Davis Ray Murphree and wife, Sarah of Salem; sisters, Lucille Lee of Seneca and Blanche Smith of Salem; and grandchildren, Vanessa and Kelsey Routh.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Murphree was predeceased by brother, Thomas Murphree and sister, Esther Murphree.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 6, from the Chapel of Davenport Funeral Home, Walhalla. Burial followed in Stamp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jerry Pace

Easley — Jerry Lee Pace, 73, of Easley, husband of Helen Morris Pace, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Pace was born in Pickens County, a son of the late J. Vernon and Ada Daves Pace. He was retired from Ryobi (Singer Company) in Pickens, and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. Mr. Pace was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife Helen, of the home, son Jody L. Pace (Kimberley A.) of Easley and granddaughter Madeline L. Pace. He is also survived by his brother Harold (Bobbie) of Pickens, and many, many church family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pace was preceded in death by a brother Melvin Pace.
Funeral services were conducted 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with the Rev. Paul Turner officiating. Burial followed in the Veteran’s Garden at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Jasper H. Carter
Easley — Mr. Jasper Howard Carter, 81, husband of the late Lucille Nalley Carter, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Anderson County, a son of the late John Henry and Lena Beasley Carter, Mr. Carter retired from Fiber Industries and Robinson Funeral Home, and was a member of Enon Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Mr. G. Keith Carter of Greenville; a daughter, Mrs. Faye C. Dickard of Chesterfield; a brother, Mr. J.B. Carter of Easley; a sister, Mrs. Azilee Anders of Easley; two grandchildren, Angie Mann and Lynn Dickard; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Mann and Anna Mann.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Carter was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Elaine Carter; eight brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were 12 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the Rev. Scott Willis officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Helen Vaughn Bratcher
Central — Helen Alexander Vaughn Bratcher, 87, of 223 Maw Bridge Road, died Tuesday at her residence.
Born in Six Mile, she was the daughter of the late Arthur M. and Mae Ruth Finley Alexander. She was retired from the textile industry and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are daughters, Gail Snider of Central and Shelby Merck of Clemson; a sister, Frances Owen of Easley; granddaughters, Paula Millwood and her husband Stephen, and Angela Davis and her husband Terry; and a special great grandson, Jerimiah Millwood.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Lamar F. Vaughn; her second husband, Barney Bratcher; and brothers, Winford “Wink” Alexander and Marvin Alexander.
Graveside services to honor the life of Mrs. Bratcher were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Albert Couch.

Alma J. Trotter
Pickens — Alma Viola Jones Trotter, 93, formerly of Fox Squirrel Ridge Road and widow of Arthur Edgar Trotter died Monday evening, Jan. 31, 2011.
Mrs. Trotter was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Edward L. and Estelle Simmons Jones. She was retired from the School District of Pickens County where she spent her career working in school cafeterias. Mrs. Trotter was a member of Griffin Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons Wayne Trotter (Ruth), Jerry Trotter (Carolyn) and Randall Trotter (Terri) all of Pickens and daughters Jean Travers (Ed), and Jessie Mae James (Harold) all of Pickens, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Trotter was preceded in death by a daughter Sarah Hayes and a grandson Robert Trotter.

Liberty — Shirley W. King, 71, of 130 Callahan Acres Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Easley she was a daughter of the late Paul Jerome and Vera Gilstrap Welborn. Mrs. King retired from West Point Stevens and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Thomas C. King of the home; a daughter, Deborah Hightower of Macon, Ga.; a sister, Frances Whitmire of Central; a granddaughter, Caron Farris of Warner Robins, Ga.; a great grandson, Trenton Farris.

Carolyn T. Moore
Six Mile — Carolyn Jean Teat Moore of 331 Old Keowee Church Road died on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at her home after a long illness.
Born in Central, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Leroy Teat and Kate “Jack” Sears Teat Hutto.  Carolyn was a graduate of Central High School and attended Draughn’s Business School.  She was a retired employee with J.P. Stevens, Clemson and was a member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are sisters, JoAnne Vaughan of Rock Hill; Phyllis Sullivan and husband, Alan of St. Peters, Mo.; brother, Kenneth Teat of St. Peters, Mo.; a God-Child, Tiffany Lovell of Easley; and many cousins.
Graveside services were 3 p.m., Friday in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery, Clemson with the Rev. Boyce Whitman officiating.

Easley — MaryEllen Turner Hutchison, 73, of Easley, wife of John Hutchison died on Jan. 31, 2011 at Easley Baptist Hospital.
Born in Thorpe, W.Va., Mrs. Hutchison was the daughter of the late Bud and Gertrude Dalton Turner.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Carmen Jeanne (Christopher) Korleski and Kelli (Joseph) Conte; four sisters, Mrs. Bert (Barbara) Gosnell, Mrs. Joel (Jean) Moran, Mrs. Frank (Jo Anne) Chappell, Ms. Melissa Corvin; two brothers, Randall Turner and John Turner; three grandchildren, Caroline Korleski, Jordan and Amanda Conte.

Clemson — Carl Rex Brewer, 77, of 103 Clarendon Drive died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at the Seneca Health and Rehab in Seneca.
Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Samuel G. and Etta Bell Brewer. Rex was a retired agent with Wright Timber Company and a former employee of BiLo in Clemson. He was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Air Force Veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Land Brewer of the home; son, Ken Brewer of Lake Waccamaw, N.C.; daughters Marlene B. Adkins and husband, Dale of Clemson; and Rhonda B. Lee and husband, Rodney of Seneca; brother, Robert K. Brewer of Central; grandchildren, Carl Lee and John Dockins; Josh and Greg Bryant; Molly Holbrooks; Brian Adkins; and Bobby and Wayne Trotter; great-grandchildren Blake and Kaylee Holbrooks; Sara Beth, Matthew, Aubrey and Susanna Dockins; Keelie Bryant and Caroline Lee; and a special “daughter”, Kathy Brewer of Easley.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by eight siblings, Samuel, Clarence, Joe, Raymond, James and Eva Christine Brewer; Nellie B. Hayes and Ollie Mae Swaney.

Pickens — Mrs. Geraldine “Geri” Brooks Thrift, 76, wife of the late James W. “Ted” Thrift, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late John A. and Ruby Pressley Brooks, Mrs. Thrift was a homemaker and a member of Tabor United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Thrift (Nancy) of Easley and David Thrift (Chandra) of Pickens; a daughter, Stacey Chapman of Pickens; a sister, Ruby Nell Roach of Witchita Falls, Texas; and four grandchildren, Lauren Chapman, Mary Brooks Thrift, Amanda Deanhardt, and David Harrison Thrift.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Thrift was predeceased by three sisters, Sylvia Lyle, Sadie Lyle, and Jennie Dees.

Six Mile — Dorothy Stone Durham, 81, of 188 Love & Care Road, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at her residence.
Born in Six Mile she was the widow of R.G. Durham and a daughter of the late Abner Lester and Lela Hunnicutt Stone. She worked as a CNA for many years at Harvey’s Nursing Home, and Clemson Downs. She loved her Lord, and also loved bird watching, flowers, and doing arts and crafts.
Surviving are three daughters, Leatha Hembree of Pickens, Elaine Durham and Tracy McCall both of Six Mile; a son, Ronnie Durham of Six Mile; a brother, Harmon Stone; nine grandchildren, Charlynn Ezell, Travis Hembree, Terri Hair, James Durham, Greg Hembree, Marylaine Duncan, Amber Durham, Jimmy Fendley, Jessica Hedden; and three great grandchildren, Jason Bearden, Isaac Kukendall, Cayden Durham.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Durham, and two brothers, Garland & Leland Stone.

Liberty — Freda B. Reid, 61, wife of Willie Reid, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
A native of Greenville she was the daughter of the late James and Doris Jean Ballenger Brown She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband she is survived by son Brian Cox of Greenville; daughter, Shelley Burrell (Deion) of Piedmont; sisters, Theresa Howell (Glen) of Arden, N.C. and Anita Price of Tenn. and grandchildren Owen and Quincy Cox and Lexie and Noah Burrell.

Lake Welborn

Easley — James Lake Welborn, 94, widower of Myrtie Mae Winchester Welborn, died on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011.
Born on July 11, 1916 in Pickens, he was the son of the late John Arlington Welborn and Mattie Stewart Welborn. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served in major campaigns in Europe, and was retired from the Singer Company. Mr. Welborn lived his life for Jesus and knew the joy of close ties with both Secona Baptist Church and Mountain Grove Baptist Church. Always a gentleman, he was much beloved by his family and many friends. He had an exceptional memory and visitors always left with a better understanding of God, nature, farm life, or World War II.
Surviving are nieces and nephews: Carol Warner Whetsell of Columbia, Lee (Janet) Warner of Raleigh, Martha (John) Preston of Hilton Head, Nancy Warner of Greenville, Alan (Lena) Warner of Pickens, Frankie Winchester Cantrell of Pickens, and Pam Winchester of Clemson. Also four great-nephews and two great-nieces. Mr. Welborn is also survived by his namesake, James Lake Cantrell.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lorena Welborn Warner.
The funeral service was Sunday, Feb. 6 at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Easley — Shelby Brown Sanders, 66, of Easley, wife of the late Jack Sanders, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at her home.

Six Mile — Hester Vella Smith Stewart, 76, of 163 Love & Care Road, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at Heritage Health Care.
She was the widow of Marvin James Stewart and a daughter of the late Charles L. and Ethel Merck Smith. She retired from Sangamo Electric and was a member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters and a son in law, Gayle & Chris Minyard and Melanie Stewart all of Central; three sons and daughters in law, Steve & Mary Stewart, Joe & Joy Stewart, and Tim & Michele Stewart all of Central; a sister, Martha Stancil of Central; 15 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son Tony Stewart.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Stewart will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Gap Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be at Gap Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Surviving are two sons, David and Thomas Buttgereit; two grandchildren, Brandy Lynn and Timothy Micheal Buttgereit; one great-greatchild, Hayden Buttgereit; and four nieces Sandy, Nancy, Vicki Garrett, and Janet Cartmell.

Surviving are a grandson, Chris Bryant and his wife Michelle of Anderson and a sister, Doris Byrd of Norris; two great grandchildren, Billy & Caleb Brooks; a special friend, Gary Lockhart of Montgomery, Ala.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. Bryant.

John Laine Malone, Jr.

Liberty — John Laine Malone, Jr., 74, of Liberty, husband of Jacqueline Hadwin Malone, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born March 20, 1936 in Nashville, Tenn., he was the son of the late John Malone and Mary Meeks Malone.  He attended the University of Tennessee and Auburn University before enlisting in the Marine Corp.  Later, he was a leading salesman with Goodyear Tire Corporation and Hilton Head Tire Company.   He was also a top real estate agent and a part-time Baptist preacher before his activities were limited by Alzheimers disease.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his son, John Malone III of Cayce, daughter Jenise Scott and husband, Stan, of Goose Creek, a sister Nancy Malone.  Four grandchildren, Jessica Scott, Megan Malone, Stephanie Scott, and Courtney Malone.  Two step-grandsons, Jason Scott, and Stanley Scott, Jr. and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, James Wade Malone in 2006.
A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Easley — Daisy Newby Freeman, 98, wife of the late James Eugene Freeman, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center.
Born in McMenville, Tenn., a daughter of the late Charles and Lula Weaver Newby, Mrs. Freeman retired from textiles and was a member of Powdersville First Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Charles Meeks (Zelma) of Easley; five grandchildren, Linda Newby (Raliegh), Carol Rose (Bill), Sandra Jordan (Jim), Cathey Rampey (Mark), and Jim Browder (Kaye); eight great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Freeman was predeceased by a daughter, Estelle Wynne; one brother, four sisters, and one granddaughter.

Sue M. Jameson
Easley — Sue McCall Jameson, 63, of 205 Bud Nalley Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Central, Mrs. Jameson was a daughter of the late J.R. and Hazel Maxey McCall. She graduated from Liberty High School and she received an MA Degree from Tri-County Tech. Mrs. Jameson was a former medical assistant at the Medical Center. A member of Easley First United Methodist Church, Mrs. Jameson belonged to the United Methodist Women’s Circle 7 and Circle 2. Also, she was a member and past president of the Mt. Olivet Sunday School Class. In addition, she was an active member of a supper club, and she was a former member of the Pickens County Medical Auxiliary. Mrs. Jameson enjoyed gardening and traveling. She was a volunteer for the Pickens County Historical Society at Hagood Mill and SHINE Organization.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. John Hal Jameson of Easley; one son, Williams McCall Jameson of Easley; a step-son, John Hal Jameson, Jr., of Tallahassee, Fla.; a step-daughter, Charlotte Watson of Easley; a brother, Bruce McCall of Easley; a sister, Linda Finley of Edgewood, Md.; a grandson, Williams Wyatt Jameson; nine step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jameson was predeceased by a step-son, Robert L. Jameson.

Easley — Charles E. Yeager, 56, of Easley, died on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Greensburg, Pa., a son of Edward and Florence Westover Yeager. He was the owner of Chuck Yeager Real Estate. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He graduated with a bachelors degree from USC. He was a respected family man who was loved by all.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his best friend and loving wife of 16 years, Debbie Hatton Yeager; a son Ronnie Tolley (Sommer); three daughters, Leah Yeager, Theresa “Dodie” Davis (Rodney) and Missy Lee (Michael); three sisters, Kathy Yeager, Linda Yeager, Jenny Yeager; one brother, Dave Yeager; eight grandchildren.

Born in Cateechee he was the widow of Beulah Black Snider and a son of the late Bry Snider and Bessie Waldrop Snider Cater. He retired from Dan River Mills, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are three daughters, Martha Whitman of Six Mile, Janice Ramey and Faye Stancil both of Cateechee; a son, Guy Snider of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Cater of Central, and Louise Hunter of Raleigh, N.C.; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Snider and a son, Billy Snider.

Pickens — William E. Thibodeau, 81, of 690 Gravley Road, husband of Carol Ristau Thibodeau, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011.
Born in Bennington, Vt., he was the son of the late Fred and Anna Brady Thibodeau. Mr. Thibodeau was retired from the Local 569 Electricians Union in San Diego, Calif. and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.

Easley — Pearl Kuller Kaplan, 89, of Easley, wife of the late Joseph Kaplan, died on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Easley Living Center.
Born in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Frances Funt Kuller. She was the last member of her immediate family and was of the Jewish faith.

Pickens — Edith Joyce “Jo” Landreth Moore, 77, wife of Dr. Buddy Moore of Pickens, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011.
Jo was born in Oconee County daughter of the late Rev. C. V. Landreth and the late Lottie Mae Crooks Landreth. She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a bank teller in Easley. She has also served as a pastor’s wife along with her husband for 49 years. Jo was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Pickens.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Dr. Buddy Moore of Pickens, her son Wallace Moore (Lynn) of Marshville, N.C. and daughter Donna Rackley (Dan) of Pelzer, grandchildren Shelton Moore (Jo Ann) and Sean Moore (Mandy), and great grandchildren Eden Moore and Garrett Moore. Also surviving is her brother Horton Landreth (Jerene) of Cliftside, N.C.
In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by a daughter Sharon Moore.
Funeral services were conducted 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Dillard Funeral home with Dr. David Gallamore and Dr. Buddy Moore officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Mary McReynolds

Liberty — Mary Carolyn Butler McReynolds, 64, of 320 Bradley Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at her residence.
Born in Fayetteville, N.C. she was the widow of Thomas Edward McReynolds and was a daughter of Mary Bledsoe Butler and the late Vance Butler. She retired from the Marine Corp Exchange, at Camp Jejune, North Carolina where she worked many years in retail sales, and also attended Ruhamah Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother of Lake City, Fla. are two sons, Patrick McReynolds and his wife Tonya of Easley, and Sean McReynolds of Liberty; a sister, Jewell LeBlanc of Orlando, Fla.; four brothers, Vernon, Aaron, and Thomas Butler all of Florida, and Forrest Butler of Georgia; three loving grandchildren, Cory and Savannah McReynolds and Dillon Dunford.
All services for the family will be private.

Homer Cecil Nalley

Easley — Homer C. Nalley, 84, died Jan. 19, 2011.
He was the son of the late Olin Eugene and Janie Hortense Durham Nalley. Mr. Nalley served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired as set-up man at Singer in Pickens after 41 years of service. He was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his children Melvin (Debra) Nalley, Brenda (Howard) Elling, Wanda (Mike) Waldrop, all of Pickens, and Linda (Mike) Garren of Easley. Surviving also are eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two step-greatgrandchildren. Surviving also are brothers Haskell Nalley and W. T. Nalley of Pickens and a sister Cornelia Bowen of Williamston.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Marjorie Mae Martin Nalley. Mr. Nalley was also preceded in death by brothers Ford Nalley, Olin Nalley, and Ray Nalley and a sister Sarah Corn.
The funeral service was conducted 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21 in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Jack Davis

Pickens — Jack Gelola Davis, 80, of Our Road, Pickens died Thursday Jan. 20, 2011 at The Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Mr. Davis was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Homer and Mamie Porter Davis. He was retired from Mayfair Mills as a spooling technician and was a member of Morningstar Independent Baptist Church. Mr. Davis was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his sons and their wives Michael G. Davis and Amy of Belton and Roger Dale Davis and Liberty of Six Mile, a brother the Rev. Minor Lee Davis of Georgia and sisters, Mozelle Davis and Delores Mauldin both of Pickens and Ethel Lee Dodgens of Liberty. Grandchildren include Dustin Davis and his wife Andrea, Whitney Evett, Matthew Davis, Will Bearden, Chenoa Davis, Hunter Bearden, Michala Davis, Chloe Bearden, Calev Davis, and Adrienna Davis and 3 great grandchildren.

Eleanor Owens Roper
Easley — Eleanor Owens Roper, 88, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, religious educator, teacher and community servant died Jan. 18, 2011.
Married 41 years to the late James Cleo Roper, longtime Pickens County and Greenville County businessman, Rotarian and a member of Furman University’s Athletic Hall of Fame, Nora Eleanor Owens Roper was born in Greenville, the second of nine children to the late Rev. Ocie Franklin Owensand the late Mollie Jane Knecht Owens. Eleanor was valedictorian of Calhoun Falls High School (1939) and graduated with honors from Anderson College (1941), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1943) and Furman College (1946), where she was also a member of Zestosophia honorary scholastic fraternity. In life, Eleanor was a religious and scholastic educator — for more than 60 years she was an active member in and servant to her beloved First Baptist Church of Easley, and a teacher and PTA life-member in the Easley (Pickens County) Schools. Throughout her life, since age six when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, her simple life’s philosophy themed the way she lived each day: “I’ll do the best I can, with what I have, where I am, for Jesus’ sake, today”.
Eleanor is survived by her four adult children and their respective spouses: James Cleo Roper, Jr. (Gail) of Pendleton; John Franklin Roper (Jo) of Knoxville, Tenn.; Charles William Roper of Easley and Sarah Jane Owens (Benny) of Easley; her grandchildren: Tyler Roper, Jennifer Roper Johnson, Kelley Roper Garrity, Jamie Owens, Mollie Roper, Ellen Owens Holder, James Roper and Katie Owens; step-grandchildren: Richard Gillespie (Kellie), Greg Gillespie (Carol); and great-grandchildren: VincentJohnson, III, Robbie Johnson, Lillian Garrity, William Garrity, and step-great-grandchildren: Lydia Gillespie, Jacob Gillespie, Bryson Gillespie, Corbin Gillespie, Mollie Jones and Madison Jones. She is also survived by her sister: Wilma Owings (David) of North Augusta, brothers: David Owens (Joann) of Lake Wales, Fla., Lenard Owens (Jean) of Greenville, sisters-in-law: Vivian Owens, Betty Owens and Ruth Bower of Greenville, Argle (Hon) Thompson of Easley; Martha Vickery (John), Easley; Miriam Vickery, Spartanburg; and brothers-in-law: Chester Holmes of Greenville; John Roper (Ruth) and Earl Roper of Seneca.
She was preceded in death by her parents: the Rev. and Mrs. O. F. Owens of Greenville; sisters: Mary Thompson (Bill) of Easley and Esther Holmes of Greenville; brothers: Joe Owens, Ansel Owens and Lewis Owens of Greenville.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 22. at the First Baptist Church, 300 East First Avenue, Easley. Burial followed in Easley’s Westview Cemetery. Services were conducted by Dr. John Adams, assisted by Dr. Chester Holmes, Jr. and the Rev. Ken Owens.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the Philathea Sunday School Class.

Six Mile — Marie Lamance Garrett, 88, widow of John Seagle Garrett, Sr. died Thursday, January 20, 2011.
Mrs. Garrett was born in Rosman, N.C., daughter of the late Roy and Olivene Galloway Lamance. She was retired from Sangamo Electric in Oconee County, and she was a member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church in Six Mile.
Survivors include her son Gerald Garrett (Tracie) of Pickens, grandchildren Pam Rampey (Wesley) and Charles Garrett (Cindy), Christina Garrett and Melissa Garrett, all of Six Mile, and Sgt. Steven Garrett, USMC, stationed in Afghanistan.
Also surviving is her brother Clinton Lamance of Six Mile.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Garrett was predeceased by two sons John Seagle Garrett, Jr. and Larry Bryan Garrett; two grandchildren, Bryan J. Garrett and Angela Michelle Garrett; and two brothers, John Lester Lamance and David Elmo Lamance.
Graveside services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens in Pickens.

Stanley Mahaffey

Liberty — Fred Stanley Mahaffey, 83, of 713 Ruhamah Road, Liberty, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at his home.
He had a long and rewarding career in textile management. He served as a Vice-President of Marketing, Woodside Division of Dan River Mills. Later, he served as plant manager for Lowenstein Manufacturing in Huntsville, Ala. He also served as plant manager for Opelika Manufacturing Company in Opelika, Ala. and Beacon Manufacturing Company in Westminster. He also served as the past President of the SC Textile Association. He enjoyed baseball and football. Mr. Mahaffey and his brother Jack served as co-captains of the Liberty High School football team that won a State Championship in 1947. Mr. Mahaffey was a U.S. Navy veteran. In earlier years, Mr. Mahaffey was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He was Scoutmaster for troops in Liberty and Cateechee. Mr. Mahaffey was awarded the Silver Beaver in 1963 for distinguished service to BSA. In addition, he served as President of the Blue Ridge Council from 1976-1978. He also attended Furman University. Throughout his adult life, he was active in various civic organizations including the Lions Club and Rotary. Mr. Mahaffey previously served as a trustee of North Greenville Junior College (North Greenville University). He enjoyed gardening, reading and watching the Atlanta Braves. He was an avid supporter of the Braves. Mr. Mahaffey was involved in church activities for his entire life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Central where he taught the Men’s Bible Sunday School Class. He had also served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Bryant Mahaffey, of 63 years, sons Mike (Gail) Mahaffey of Clemson, Paul(Sandy) Mahaffey of South China, Maine, daughters Pam Furr ( Carlton) of Powdersville, Cyndi St. John (David) of Irmo, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Vernon Mahaffey of Liberty and the Rev. Jack Mahaffey of Easley.
He was predeceased by his parents Sylvestor and Essie Mahaffey; his sister Hazel Mahaffey; brothers Heyward Mahaffey, J.B. Gilstrap, and Glen Gilstrap.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Liberty Mortuary in Liberty by the Rev. Jack Mahaffey and the Rev. Tony Qualkinbush.

Charles E. Yeager

Easley — Charles E. Yeager, 56, of Easley, died on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Greensburg, Pa., a son of Edward and Florence Westover Yeager. He was the owner of Chuck Yeager Real Estate. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He graduated with a bachelors degree from USC. He was a respected family man who was loved by all.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his best friend and loving wife of 16 years, Debbie Hatton Yeager; a son Ronnie Tolley (Sommer); three daughters, Leah Yeager, Theresa “Dodie” Davis (Rodney) and Missy Lee (Michael); three sisters, Kathy Yeager, Linda Yeager, Jenny Yeager; one brother, Dave Yeager; eight grandchildren.

Pearl A. Simmons
Pickens — Pearl Atkins Simmons, 82, widow of Robert Oscar Simmons died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at her home.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Smiley Durrant and Carrie Cantrell Atkins. She was retired as a seamstress from Sir Shirtmakers and was a lifelong member and former pianist at Blue Ridge View Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra S. Lesley and her husband Albert Pete Lesley of Pickens and her son Wade Robert Simmons and his wife, Joyce H. Simmons of Easley. Surviving also are six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by three brothers and their wives Jay Frank Atkins and Nora, Oscar Atkins and Alice, Luther Atkins and Louise and a sister Nellie Atkins.

Easley — Erla Marie Hughes Norton, 92, formerly of North Cedar Rock Road, wife of the late Herman Hershel Norton, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Laurel Hill Living Center.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Emma Dodson Hughes, Mrs. Norton retired from Cone Mills and was a member of Cannon Mountain Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Hershel Norton (Marty) of Norfolk, Va., Austin Norton (Linda) of Pickens and Wade Norton (Faye) of Liberty; three daughters, Faye Shelton (Darvis), Hazel Holden (Gerald) and Allene Crenshaw (Robert) all of Pickens; two brothers, Carl Hughes of Liberty and the Rev. Colie Hughes of Pickens; a sister, Martha Hughes Lance of Pickens; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. 
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Norton was predeceased by four brothers, three sisters, and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.  Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ben Aiken

Pickens — Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Aiken, 77, husband of Mary Lou Gibson Aiken, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011.
Ben was born in Pickens County, a son of the late George Robert and Sadie Galbreath Aiken. He was retired owner and operator of Piedmont Overhead Door and Piedmont Plumbers. Ben was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church and Men’s Sunday School Class and he was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years Mary Lou of the home, son, Robert Edward Aiken and his wife Esther, of Pickens, and seven grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Joe Aiken of Easley, and sisters Teena Hopkins of Greenville and Hazel Marler of Easley.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by a son Benjamin Scott Aiken.

Juanita W. Martin
Clemson — Juanita Whitt Martin, 83, widow of the late William A. “Bill” Martin, died peacefully, Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at her residence in Clemson. She was affectionately known as “Giga” by all who loved her.
Born in Seneca, she was the daughter of the late George and Roxie Stone Whitt. She formerly worked in the cafeteria of Morrison Elementary School in Clemson and was often seen helping her husband at Martin’s Grocery in Clemson. Juanita was a member of the Red Hat Society and a very active member of East Clemson Baptist Church, where she participated in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and the Young At Heart Group.
She is survived by three sons, Randy Martin of Clemson; Tony Martin and wife Leila of Duluth, Ga.; Jimmy Martin and wife Kim of Lexington; two daughters, Marlene Wheeler and husband Dean of LaGrange, Ga.; Cathy Pollard of Central; a sister, Doris White of Lexington; Grandchildren; Travis and Minde Wheeler of Summerville; Luke and Alecia Clamp of Lexington; Chad and Loren Martin of Marietta, Ga.; Amanda Martin of Clemson; Tassy and Ralph Mannis of Central; Lee and Lauren Pollard of Cleveland, Tenn.; Eric Pollard of Marietta, Ga.; Sara Pollard of Clemson; Will Martin of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Andrew Martin of Seattle, Wash.; Michael Martin of Lexington; Great-Grandchildren; Caroline Wheeler; Ian and Alex Champ; Devin Martin and Nina and Logan Mannis.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter Joyce Martin and nine brothers and sisters.
A Graveside service was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Memory Gardens with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. at East Clemson Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Gilliam officiating.

Glenn Cole

Central — Wallace Glenn Cole, 75, husband of Barbara Ann Stokes Cole, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at his residence in Central. 
Glenn was born in Oconee County, and was the son of the late Wallace Hoyt and Mary Ola Dobson Cole.  He was the founder and owner of Southeast Electrical and Mechanical Contractors of LaGrange, Ga.  Glenn was a Christian who loved the Lord and attended Flat Rock Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Gregory Glenn Cole and wife, Robin and Wallace Kenneth Cole and wife, Pam all of Pine Mountain, Ga.; a daughter, Cynthia Cole of New York, N.Y.; three sisters; Ann Higgins of LaGrange, Ga.; Jean Gillespie of Liberty and Beth Farmer of Pendleton; grandchildren; Johnathan (Joy) Hulsey, Matthew (Lorie) Hulsey, Mallory (Ryan) Daniel, Garrett Cole, Kennedy Cole and Tiffany (Phillip) Jackson; great-grandchildren; Skyler Hulsey, Victoria Hulsey, Morgan Shay and Hailey Jackson.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Vickie Lynn Dukes; two brothers; Tommy Cole and Billy Cole; three sisters; Linda Addis, Sue Kirkley and Lorina “Jo” Greer; and a granddaughter, Laura Ann Cole.

Catherine F. Culver
Clemson — Catherine Culver died peacefully at her residence at Clemson Downs on Jan. 24, 2011.
She was born on March 5, 1918 in Clanton, Ala. to Roy L. Foshee and Ethel Traywick Foshee. Catherine’s beloved husband of 71 years, Chester, died on Nov. 9, 2010. The family fondly remembers Catherine, Grandmama Culver, as a devoted mother and grandmother. She patiently taught any and all who wanted to learn to knit, sew, cross-stitch, cook and play. She gathered the family for countless meals to celebrate holidays or just to be together.
Catherine and Chester have two daughters, Carol Ferree and husband, Roy, who live in Easley, and Joy Ferree and husband, Butch, who live in Clemson; four granddaughters, Jackie O’Hara and husband, Jerry, live in Warrenton, Va.; Gay Eitenmiller lives in Ballground, Ga.; Megan Cobb and husband, Ala., live in Huntley, Ill.; and Cary Blackwell and husband, Tommy, live in Clemson. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Olivia, Daniel, Maura Kate, Owen and John O’Hara; Erin, Thomas and Mason Eitenmiller; Alexis and Matthew Cobb; and Lila Blackwell. Sisters Juanita Lanford and Mary Will Lunceford still live in Birmingham, Ala.
Brother Maurice and half-brother Edgar predeceased her.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Monroe White and Laura Elliott Kelly. Mrs. Denton was a homemaker and a member of Tabor U.M.C.

Bonnie Lou Holder
Pickens — Bonnie Lou Pace Holder, 81, wife of Loyd Parsons Holder of 541 South Glassy Mountain Road, died Thursday Jan. 13, 2011 at Hospice of the Foothills in Seneca.
Mrs. Holder was born in Pickens County, daughter of the late Royce and Stella Parker Pace. She was retired from The South Carolina Forestry Commission as Fire Tower Keeper on Glassy Mountain just outside Pickens. Mrs. Holder was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Easley and was a member of Brushy Creek Senior Citizens.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Loyd P. Holder, son Tim Holder (Melodie) of Easley, grandchildren Ryan Holder (Ellen) of Easley and Hanna Holder of Easley and a brother Harold Pace (Gladys) of Easley.
Funeral services were conducted 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Spencer and the Rev. Rodney Graham officiating.

Helen Smith Crowe
Pickens — Helen Margaret Smith Crowe, 82, widow of Earl Henry Crowe, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Hendersonville, N.C.
Formerly of Pickens she was born in Sabillasville, Md. and was a daughter of the late Simon and Lottie Mae Eckard Smith. She was retired from ECP in Easley and was a member of Mile Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Linda Smith of Easley, Mae Smith of Ware Shoals, Ruby Crowe of Honea Path, and Brenda Barker of Easley; a son, Gary Crowe of Easley; a sister, Mary Flair of Florida; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie Lynn Crowe, two sister and two brothers.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Crowe will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Liberty — Garland D. Porter, 76, of 100 Crowfield Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Barney and Irene Kelly Porter. Mr. Porter was retired from the textile industry and was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Kelly Porter of the home; two children, Vicki Porter Cromer (Frank) and Barney Dean Porter; three grandchildren, Shannon Chapman, Chad Cromer and Becki Porter.

Gerald G. Jacks

Pickens — Gerald Gilliam Jacks, 73, of 139 Jacks Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011.
Born in Laurens County, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Jacks and Laura Elizabeth Carley Jacks. Mr. Jacks was the owner of Jacks’ Bait Distributors for 47 years. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church and was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran.
Surviving is his wife of the home, Linda Hunsucker Jacks; his children, Gerald K. Jacks (Patti) of Pickens, Vicki D. Denard (Garen) of Liberty, Dale E. Jacks (Bobbi Jo) of Easley, R. Chad Jacks (Angie) of Pickens, Shane Jacks (Rona) of Williamston and Tanya Fincannon (Rod) of Easley; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Don Jacks of Piedmont; and two sisters, Doris Davis of Easley and Gale Jacks of Myrtle Beach.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Tommy and Freddie Jacks.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church, 336 Mountain View Church Rd., Six Mile, SC 29682 with the service to celebrate Mr. Jacks’ life to follow at 3:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Thomas Robinson Hanna

Easley — Thomas Robinson Hanna, 94, of Easley, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville. 
He was the husband of the late Viola Jameson Hanna.
Born August 16, 1916 on his maternal grandparents’ farm in Anson County, N.C., he was a son of the late Charles Bell Hanna, Sr. and the late Eleanor Robinson Hanna. 
Mr. Hanna was a 1938 graduate of Clemson Agricultural & Military College, and he received graduate education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  Mr. Hanna’s first career was as an educator, teaching Agriculture in Cullowhee, N.C. and then at Easley High School, until going to serve his country in World War II.  As a First Lieutenant in the 8th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Army Division, he participated in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge.  After returning home from service, Mr. Hanna enjoyed a long career with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, retiring as Director of Air Pollution Control for Greenville County.  He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens. 
Mr. Hanna will be remembered as a kind, quiet, generous, and thoughtful gentleman to all who knew him.
Surviving are one brother, William J. Hanna, IV of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Eleanor Hanna McLean of Washington, DC; a brother-in-law, James S. Myrick, Jr. and his wife, Mary McCuen Myrick of Nashville, Tenn.; a devoted sister-in-law, Margaret Jameson Waldrop and her husband Harry Waldrop, of Lynchburg, Va., and many special nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hanna was predeceased by two brothers, Henry H. Hanna and Charles Bell Hanna, Jr. and two sisters, Sarah Craig Myrick and Mary Hanna Barnes.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, in Westview Cemetery, Easley, with the Rev. Jimmy Dillard officiating.
Family members are at their respective homes.

Liberty — Rhonda Tysinger Hernandes, 52, beloved wife of Jose Guadalupe Hernandes, of 793 Breazeale Road, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at her home.
Born June 19, 1958 in Rock Hill, she was a daughter of the late Jack H. and Shirley Gastley Tysinger. She was a 1977 graduate of Easley High School.
Surviving in addition to her husband is her brother, Troy M. Tysinger of Easley; her maternal grandmother, Nora Kerr Gastley of Liberty; Lupe’s son, Martin Botello Hernandez and his wife Debbie; a granddaughter, Brianna Rose Botello; a son, Richard Lewis Smith and a grandson, Brayden Lewis Smith; also surviving are numerous cousins and special friends.
Funeral services were at noon Friday, January 7, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

John Calvin Williams, Jr.

CENTRAL — John Calvin Williams, Jr., 61, of 116 Water Oak Lane, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Oconee Medical Center.
Born in Anderson, Calvin was a son of the late John Calvin Williams Sr. and Dorothy Mae Peppers Williams.  He was a former textile employee and retired from Clemson University.  He was a US Army veteran and a member of New Life Church of Central.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Gardner Williams of the home; two sons, Patrick Kennedy Williams of Liberty and Christian Alvah Williams of Spartanburg; one daughter, Wacheta Consuela Williams of Hephzibiah, GA; one brother, Fredrick Antonio Williams of Clemson; and a sister, Jacqueline Johnson of Pendleton.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Jared Dante Williams.

Donald “Don” Frederick Steuerwald
Pickens — Mr. Donald, “Don” Frederick Steuerwald, 85, husband of the late Norma Lee Steuerwald, formerly of 214 Fox Squirrel Ridge Road, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2010 at Countryside Living Center.
Born in Wolsey, S.D., a son of the late Fred P. and Marjorie F. Steuerwald, Mr. Steuerwald graduated from South Dakota State University and Southern Illinois University where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. Don  retired as an Electrolytic Capacitor Engineer with Sangamo Electric after twenty-five years of service and was an active member of Easley Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna Elrod and her husband Dell, and Heidi Jean Steuerwald, all of Piedmont; four sisters, Marion Pech of Denver CO, Helen Rogers of Chico, CA, Janice Boe of Dewey, AZ, and Clarice McManus of Huron, SD; grandchildren, Shane Elrod and his wife, Rebecca, of Easley, Sandy Elrod Browning and her husband, Josh, of Piedmont, Travis Elrod of Norwood, NC, Jeanie Montgomery, and her husband, Doug, of Starr, and Millie Taylor and her husband, Stacy, of Asheville, NC; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Steuerwald was predeceased by a son, Eric F. Steuerwald, a daughter, Jeana Lee Steuerwald, and a brother, Wilfred Steuerwald.

Liberty — Ruby Price Harvell, 83, of 9 Ridgeline Drive, widow of Bill Harvell, died Thursday, January 06, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Crawford, Georgia she was a daughter of the late McDuffie and Vashti Swaney Price.
She was a member of Calumet Baptist Church and was retired from American Wiping Cloth where she worked as an accountant, and operated Harvell Accounting out of her home until the time of her death.
Surviving are a daughter, Elaine Perry and her husband Gerald of Liberty; son, Rev. Keith Harvell and his wife Alicia of Liberty; a sister, Evelyn Perry of Seneca; a brother, Horace Price of Westminster; two grandchildren, Anita Perry and Stephen Harvell.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calumet Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jeffrey Harris, and Rev. Willie Honea. Entombment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

She was a member of Pickens View Wesleyan Church. A member of theDAV, Mrs. Marchbanks was a member of the American Legion Post 3.
Surviving are her husband, Robert M. Marchbanks, of the home; one son, Charles M. Anderson of Easley; three step-sons, Marion Ray Marchbanks of Powdersville, and Randy Eugene and Brad Marchbanks, both of Pickens; one daughter, Debbie L. Beak (Richard) ofGreenville; three step-daughters, Elaine Green of Six Mile, Debra Jean Griffin of Jesup, GA, and Deborah Gantt of Pickens; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Tolly C. Allison. In addition to her parents, Mrs.Marchbanks was predeceased by a daughter, Babby Benita Anderson; a step-son, Michael Marchbanks; two brothers, James and Charles Allison; a sister, Ruth H. Norris; and two grandsons, William Scott Sprouse and Chad Marchbanks.

Odie Hayes
Easley — Odie Bertran Hayes, 82, formerly of 121 Pennington Drive, Pickens, died Friday night, January 7, 2011.
Mr. Hayes was born in Picken County a son of the late Odie and Bertie M. Simmons Hayes. He was retired from Ryobi Motor Products where he worked in the tool crib and stock room and drove a tow motor. He was an avid camper, hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Griffin Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter Marie Shelton (Paul) of Easley, Sons Thomas Hayes of Aiken, Tony Hayes, Billy Hayes, and Troy Hayes all of Pickens, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers C. B. Hayes and Furman C. “Gabby” Hayes of Pickens and Charles Hayes of Easley and sister Irene Kelly of Pickens.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial following at Griffin Baptist Church Cemetery.

Aaron Albert “Chub” Mann
Six Mile — Albert “Chub” Mann of Six Mile died at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson on Saturday, January 8.
Mr. Mann was born October 14, 1914, in Six Mile to William Benson and Ginny Youngblood Mann.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Rubye Winchester Mann of the home his son, Tom Mann (Kim) of Anderson, SC his daughter, Jane Mann Coward (Wayne) of Byhalia, MS. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren: Abby (Danny) Reed and Angie Davis of Collierville, TN and Chad Mann (Jennifer) of Roswell, GA 6 great grandchildren, McKenzie and Aaron Reed, Wayne and Wes Davis, Jake and Charlie Mann. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters: Ollie Mann, Mae Mann Cantrell, Mellie Mann Childress, Lavinia Mann Baumgarner, his twin brother; Allen “Crick” Mann, Johnny Mann and Clovie Mann Ellenburg.
A lifelong resident of Six Mile, Mr. Mann was a farmer and sawmill owner until he retired. Following retirement he spent many enjoyable hours working at the Happy Berry Blueberry Farm in Six Mile. He continued to garden and work outside until this fall. He lived a remarkable life of good health, self-sufficiency and strong faith. Mr. Mann was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church and was a former Deacon and a member of the Baptist Brotherhood, the Lions Club, and helped build houses for Habitat for Humanity. He also participated in several Mission trips to build churches in other states. Resourceful and determined, he set a good Christian example for his children and grandchildren to follow.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 9, at Six Mile Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
The family gathered to visit and celebrate the life of Mr. Mann following the service at the church fellowship hall across the street from the church.

James H. Stuckey, Jr.

Central — James Henry Stuckey, Jr., 63, of 437 Meredith Street and husband of Remedios Valmores Stuckey, died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Ramey Hospice House of Anderson.
Born in Anderson, he was a son of Lucile Newton Stuckey of Central and the late James H. Stuckey, Sr. He was a graduate of Francis Marion University having earned a B.S. degree in both psychology and archeology.  James was a US Navy Veteran of Vietnam and through his military service and his later service in the Merchant Marines spent time in the Western Pacific, West Pac Operations, Desert Shield and Desert Storm activities.  He was a member of the VFW Post 2872 in Athens, GA and was of the baptist faith but recently was rebaptized as a catholic.  James was a man of honor, dignity and loved his country.  He travelled around the world and he loved sports cars.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kimberly Douglas and husband, Harry and Sonya Young all of Hemingway, SC; brother, Keith N. Stuckey of Lexington, SC; sisters, Elizabeth Mabry of Lexington, SC and Mary S. Freeman of Greenville, SC; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
In additon to his father he was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Stuckey.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Cleo Clifton Garrett

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Cleo Clifton Garrett, age 87, passed away January 8, 2011. He was born on December 12, 1923 and was one of 8 children born to Oscar and Nan Garrett of Pickens, South Carolina and was the last surviving child. He has been a San Antonio, Texas resident since 1963. He was active in sports and enjoyed professional baseball and football.
Major Garrett had a distinguished military career, serving 22 years with the United States Army before retiring in July 1967. He had over 8 years of enlisted service and received a direct commission as a Second Lieutenant. He served overseas during three wars, WWII with the 28th Infantry Division, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam War. He also served oversees in Germany and Japan. He received numerous military decorations including three Bronze Star Medals, a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat during WWII, and a Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Additionally, he received the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the French and Luxembourg Fourragere, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Following military service, he worked 20 years for Ray Ellison Homes, Inc. in San Antonio and retired. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio was ordained as a Baptist Deacon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ola Chapman Garrett of San Antonio; 2 sons, Clifton H. Garrett & wife Frances of San Antonio and Earl T. Garrett & wife Charleen of Abilene, TX; 2 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 8:30 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

DEBORAH K. POWELL
Liberty — Deborah Kay Powell, 55, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Central, she was the daughter of the late Hoyle and Elizabeth Fant McAlister. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and was a good Christian lady.
She is survived by husband David Powell; daughters, Barbara Ann Chapman of Liberty and Wendy Michelle Overstreet of Central, brother, Larry McAlister of Central, sister, Joyce Moseley of Easley and grandchildren, Austin, Brittany and Kaitlyn Chapman and David Powell. She was predeceased by son David Powell and brother Danny McAlister.

Doris Parsons
EASLEY — Doris Elizabeth Newton Brandon Parsons, 75, died January 10, 2011, after a brief illness.
Born April 11, 1935, in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late James Walter Newton and Ruby Estelle Blanchett. She was married to Austin Vernell (Toad) Brandon from Texas until his passing, then married to Aldon E. (Buck) Parsons of Oklahoma until his passing. She earned a Masters of Education from Texas A&M-Kingsville, and was a retired school teacher from Easley High School in 1992. Her hobbies included painting, in which she was very accomplished; and taught art as a hobby. She enjoyed knitting and her grandkids, reading, and recently she finished her autobiography.
Surviving are three children, Sam (Norma) Brandon of Austin TX, Shanna Allen of Easley, and Sharon Higgins (Ken Higgins) of Easley; six grandchildren, Justin Mawyer (Jessie), Adam Mawyer (Brandi), Talisa Brandon (Roger), Brock Allen, Brandon Higgins, and Makaylyn Higgins; one step grandson, Forrest Six. three great grandchildren; a sister, Linda Daniel of Englewood, FL; and a step mother, Marge Newton of Easley.
Predeceased were two sisters and one brother, Martha Graham, Carl Douglas and Jo Newton.

Richard Charles Hill
EASLEY — Richard C. Hill, 78, of 404 Haverhill Circle, Easley, died January 9, 2011.
Born June 27, 1932, in Lincoln, Neb., he was the son of the late Harold L. and Agatha Bartlett Hill, formerly of Easley and Hollywood, Fla. Mr. Hill was part-owner of Marion Davis, Inc. until his retirement in 1981 and served on the Advisory Board of B.J. Skelton Career Center. He was a former member of the Elk’s Club of Greenville, a proud member of Bates Masonic Lodge of Easley and a life member of the Shriners Hejaz Temple of Greenville.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Wanda Lee S. Hill; 2 daughters, Sandra Lee H. Garrett of Greer, Jamie Lou H. Lane of Fountain Inn and a son, Richard Jeffrey Hill (Tami) of Midway, GA; 5 grandsons, Russell F. Garrett, W. Ryan Hill, Brandon J. Hill, Stephen J. Hill and Charles A. Hill; 1 granddaughter, Brittany L. Hill and 2 great-grandsons, Dakota C. Stuhmer and Aiden B. Hill.
A memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Jim Correll, will be held at 2 p m. on Saturday, January 15, at First United Methodist Church, 115 West First Avenue, Easley. Interment will follow, with Masonic Last Rites, at Springwood Cemetery downtown Greenville.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church, prior to the service.

Mildred J. Crane
Greenville — Mildred Jean Lawrence Crane, 68, of Greenville, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011.
Born in Toccoa, Ga., she was the daughter of Lois Blanch Lawrence of Pickens and the late Howard Lawrence. Mrs. Crane was retired from Li-Chelle Manufacturing in Greenville.
Surviving are her mother of Pickens; two daughters, Cathy Diane Hoxit (David) and Tracy Lois McGaha (Robert) of Pickens; three sons, Ruben Bruce Crane (Debra) of Greenville, William Lee Crane (Linda) of Spartanburg and Michael Anthony Crane (Lisa) of Toccoa; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Sandra Lawrence (Doug) of Pelzer.
In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a son, Bobby Leon Crane, a great grandson, Austin J. Septon, her grandmother, Ruth Phillips, and two sisters, Judy Thorpe and Mary Sue Cawthon.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

C. Roy Collins 

CENTRAL — Charles Roy Collins, 72, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Collins Ole Towne in Central.
Roy was born in Central and was the son of the late Charles and Myrtle Collins.  He was a resident of Pickens County for 72 years and was a civic leader having been a member of various clubs and committees. Roy was a former employee of Clemson University Forestry Dept., Director of Public Works for Pickens County, was on the Pickens County Council, served on the Easley-Central Water District, the Pickens County Water Authority as well as serving for over 45 years in the SC Army National Guard. 
Roy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Shirley Collins of the home; his children Sheryl (Joe) McElwee of Anderson; Marshall (Janie) Collins of Rock Hill; and Marion (Gail) Collins of Clemson.  Roy is also survived by his eight grandchildren Barron (Ryan) Voskuil, Trip McElwee I, Anna McElwee, Margaret McElwee, Marshall Collins II, Kelsey Collins, William Collins, and Hannah Collins. Roy is also survived by his brother Ray (Lillian) Collins, and his sister Floy Hester of Hickory, N.C. 
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Juanita Beth Collins.
Visitation was held at Collins Ole Town Chapel, 228 Lawton Rd. Central SC, 29630 from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, January 8. 
The body was placed in Central First Baptist Church, 207 Johnson Rd. at 1 p.m., Sunday, January 9 prior to the funeral service, which was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Burial followed with full military rites at Memory Gardens, Clemson.

Timothy Wayne McCollum
Easley — Timothy Wayne McCollum, 55, of 301 Store Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.
Born in Greenville, he was the husband of Elizabeth O’Bryant McCollum and a son of the late Furman Matthew and Lillie Kathleen Wiggins McCollum. He previously worked for General Electric in Greenville for 34 years and was a member of Arial United Methodist Church. Tim loved little children, laughing with friends, listening to old vinyl records and the outdoors and will be missed by all that knew him.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Angie O’Bryant of Pickens; two sons, Zach McCollum and his wife Amber of Pickens and Freddie Galloway of Easley; a sister, Pam Reynolds and her husband Mike of Greer; two Brothers, Phil McCollum and his wife Robin, and Hal McCollum and his wife Brenda all of Easley; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Mr. McCollum was held Thursday at Arial United Methodist Church. Private interment will be held at a later date.

William H. (Billy) Farr, Jr.
Easley — William Herbert Farr, Jr. of Countryside Village, formerly of 105 Homeland Court, Easley SC, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, after several years of declining health.
Born July 12, 1938, Mr. Farr was the only child of the late W.H. Farr and Margaret Garrison Farr.  He was a lifetime resident of Easley. Mr. Farr graduated from Easley High School in 1956 and attended Clemson University.  He was the former owner of Easley Equipment Company and Farr Trucks and Equipment.  Mr. Farr was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed western novels, southern gospel music, vintage cars and farm machinery.
Surviving are two children from his first marriage, a son, Danny Farr and wife, Lynn, and a daughter Alicia Clinger and husband, Glenn, both of Easley.
His second wife, Donna, predeceased him.
Graveside services were 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Westview Cemetery in Easley.

Paul Edward Bowie, III
Liberty — Paul E. Bowie, III “PEB,” age 71 of 25 Highland Terrace, Liberty, husband of Brenda Sullivan Bowie, died on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010.
Born on February 4, 1939, to Paul Edward Bowie, Junior, and Earline Davis Bowie, he moved to Liberty as a young boy and graduated from Liberty High School, Class of 1957. He immediately entered Clemson University on a football scholarship and was on the “Clemson Tigers” football team, coached by the late Frank Howard, from 1957-1960.
While at Clemson he was one of the 15 charter members of the local fraternity, DELTA KAPPA ALPHA, known as one of the most outstanding local fraternities at Clemson. He deeply loved his brothers in his fraternity. Upon graduating from Clemson in 1961, with a Bachelors Degree in English and History, he entered the University of South Carolina Law School, graduating in 1964, with honors. In 1964 he began his law practice in Greenville, moving to Easley in 1965, where he began his practice with the late Honorable Harris P. Smith; then in Pickens with the late Felix L. Finley, Jr., and finally, from 1981 to present, he had his own law practice with his wife working by his side. He and his family have always been most supportive of their community, their schools and their church. In 1955, his father began giving the Student Athletic Award for the most valuable male and female athlete at Liberty High School, which Peb and his wife, Brenda, continued to give. Also his father began giving the first “Most Valuable Player Award” to the Clemson Men’s Basketball team, which at the time, was the first and only award given in basketball. Again, with his father’s death, he and his brothers have continued the tradition of giving this award. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Liberty, where he taught the Glory Bound Sunday School Class. He counted his Sunday School Class members as family and wanted them to know how much he loved them and appreciated their devotion one to the other, as it was obvious to him of their great love for the Lord, and others.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Kathy Bowie of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Pam Wheeler of Greer, and daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Bailey Woods, and Donna and Lynn Rich, all of Liberty; grandchildren: Jeb and Kaitlin Bowie, Thomas Wheeler, Trevor Woods, Sullivan Woods, and Logan Rich, as well as Bobby and Courtney Walker, children of deceased daughter, Dianne. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Ernestine Crenshaw Stone; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Sondra Bowie, Steve and Jean Bowie, Greg and Phyllis Bowie, and Don and Julie Bowie; a brother in law, Terry Chapman.  
Mr. Bowie was predeceased by parents Paul Edward Bowie, Junior and Earline Davis Bowie, and a brother in law, Ronnie Sullivan, and his father in law, Lloyd J.P. Stone, Sr.
A Celebration of Peb’s life was Thursday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church Liberty, with the Rev. Dr. Eugene Rollins, and the Rev. Dean Herman officiating. The committal service was Friday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m., at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville.
The Glory Bound Sunday School Class of First Baptist Liberty was Honorary Escort.

Easley — Sylvia Mae Hall Scott, 84, of Easley, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Easley Living Center.
Born in Prestonburg, Ky., a daughter of the late Ballard Thomas and Fannie Lee Allen Hall, Mrs. Scott was a homemaker and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Samuel Ralph Scott of the home; two daughters, Linda Susan Hatfield (Don) and Elaine Booten (Ed); one son Ralph Randall Scott(Tamie); a brother James Randall Hall; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scott was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Sue Elia and a brother, Allen Lee Hall.

Kenneth Turner

Six Mile — Kenneth Aldon Turner, beloved husband of Gloria Jean Beasley Turner, died, Dec. 29, 2010 at Baptist Easley Hospital in his 65th year.
He was born in Gahanna, Ohio to Juanita Turner and the late Dick Turner.
Mr. Turner of the Christian faith and was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Clarence William “Bill” Hickey (Beth) of Piedmont, Tony Gene Hickey of Six Mile, Roger DeWayne Hickey (Angie) of Travelers Rest, Charles Shayne Hickey of Six Mile, Wallace Leon Hickey (Jennifer) of Fort Hood, Texas, and Calvin Melvin Hickey (Carol) of Pendleton; 17 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers Frank Morris “June” of Columbus, Ohio, and Dick Morris of Kitts Hill, Ohio; sister Mary Baker of Orient, Ohio.
In addition to his father he was preceded by grandchild Gloria Anne Hickey; brothers Raymond Morris, Bill Morris and Marcello Butler.

Dale Bagwell
Liberty — Dale Edward Bagwell, 51, of 806 Rice’s Creek Road, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Easley he was a son of Joe E. and Nancy Smith Bagwell. Dale was a 1977 graduate of Liberty High School, and was employed by the School District of Pickens County as the custodian of Liberty Middle School. He was a member of Liberty Church of God.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Liberty are two sons, Josh Bagwell, Thad Bagwell and his wife Roxanne all of the home; a brother, Joey Bagwell and his wife Tonda of Liberty; two nieces, Kaci and Kaylin Bagwell of Liberty; the mother of his children, Caroline Tripp of Easley.
He was predeceased by a son, Michael Joseph Edward Bagwell.

Marietta — Angie B. Fortner, beloved wife to the late Eugene Fortner, died Jan. 2, 2011 at Falls Creek Living Center in her 85th year.

Maxie Fuller
Liberty — Maxie Sanders Fuller, 82, of 537 Golden Creek Road, died Monday in Piedmont.
Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late David Hampton and Emma Ruth Ferrell Sanders. She retired from the Monaghan Plant in 1977 and was a member of Central Church of God.
Surviving are her husband Palmer Young Fuller of the home; three daughters, Norma Fuller of Easley, Mattie Center (Charles) of Liberty and Pam Aiken (Dale) of Pickens; a son, Michael Fuller (Mellissa) of Liberty; a brother, Eugene Sanders of Greenville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a son, Houston Fuller; and two brothers, Richard and Jimmy Sanders.

J. Watt Stewart, Sr.

Easley — J. Watt Stewart, Sr., 84, of 103 Fairway Oaks Lane, husband of the late Dorothy Satterfield Stewart to whom he was married for 49 years, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Rev. Oscar Baker and Gertie Watt Stewart, Mr. Stewart played football for Easley High School where he was the most valuable player in 1942 and 1943.  He lettered in football at Clemson University in 1944, then entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Manila during World War II.  Mr. Stewart then graduated from Presbyterian College where he also played football. Mr. Stewart retired as a supervisor with the Glenwood Plant of Mayfair Mills and was former owner of Stewart Jewelers. He later retired from Verdae Greens after 17 years of service. Mr. Stewart was a member of Easley First United Methodist Church where he sang in the church choir for more than 60 years.  He was an accomplished vocalist and sang at many weddings and funerals.
Surviving are a son, J. Watt Stewart, Jr., (Cindy) of Liberty; a daughter, Kitty Loggins (David) of Easley; a son-in-law, Michael Lawrence of Easley; a brother, Gene Stewart (Sarah) of Easley; a sister, Margaret Edgar (Bob) of Easley; grandchildren, Ashley Ann Caddigan (Kevin) of Nashville, Tenn.;  Stewart David Loggins of Atlanta, Christina Jean Lawrence and Michael Joseph Lawrence, both of Orlando, Fla.; a great-grandgrandson, Ryan David Caddigan of Nashville, Tenn.; and special companion, Mary Winslett Bagwell of Easley. 
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Stewart was predeceased by a daughter, Barrie Jean Lawrence; three brothers, Dewey, Isom and Henry Stewart; and by two sisters, Evelyn Watson and Mildred Kirk.
Memorial services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Easley First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Correll, the Rev. Ben Barnett and the Rev. Ron Bently officiating.  Entombment was private in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Former employees of Verdae Greens were asked to serve as Honorary Escorts.

Effie Simmons
Pendleton — Effie Lauraie Simmons, 78, of Pendleton and formerly of Pickens Garden Apartments, died after years of declining health Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Pickens County, daughter of the late Valley and Grace Crumpton Simmons. She was formerly employed with Southern Weaving Company and she was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include sons, George Edwin Simmons of Pendleton, Clarence Valley Simmons and daughter Vida Regina Hughes of Pickens. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friends Martha Lance, Bessie Lollis and Mary Nix.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband George Guy Simmons, a son Clyde David Simmons, brothers Elmer Houston Simmons, J. L. “Jack” Simmons, and Ernest Simmons and sister, Millie Elizabeth Simmons.

Ruby Lee Adams
Pickens — Ruby Lee Patterson Adams, 83, of 117 Cemetery Street, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010.
Mrs. Adams was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Freeman and Kizzie Powell Patterson. She was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Singer and Sangamo in Pickens. Mrs. Adams was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include her brother Freeman Patterson, Jr. (Connie) of Pickens, nieces and nephews, Mike Mooneyham, Kay Allen, Patti Welborn, Marsha Patterson and Mark Patterson and great nieces and great nephews Kaycee Collins, Kevin and Kelley Welborn, Michael Allen, Brandon and Colin Patterson and also a great great nephew Isaiah Hamby.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her sister Leona Patterson Mooneyham.

Jack E. Corbin

Liberty — Jack Eugene Corbin, 81, of 8227 Liberty Highway, died at his home, Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010.
Born in Richmond, Va. he was a son of the late Daniel and Madeline Euting Corbin. Mr. Corbin was retired from Russell Corporation where he worked as a mechanical engineer, and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He was formerly a member of Easley First United Methodist Church, and currently had been a member of Liberty United Methodist Church since his retirement.
Surviving are two daughters, Suzanne Rice and Patti Watson both of Liberty; a son and daughter in law, Steve and Ann Corbin of New Orleans, La.; three sisters, Dorothy White and Gladys Dagenhart both of Richmond, Va., and Shirley Menendez of Gaithersburg, Md.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Robert and Jessica Rice, Jessica and Josh James, Ryan and Lisa Corbin; a great granddaughter, Haley James; two nieces, Barbara Dagenhart, and Nancy Choudry.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Betty Lou Fleisher Corbin, a son, Bruce Corbin, a brother, Bob Corbin, and a niece, Anne Turner.

Liberty — Delores Worrell Lundquist, 66, wife of Donald L. Lunquist, Sr. of 145 Huntington Drive, Liberty, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2010.
Delores was born in Burgaw, N.C. a daughter of the late Frank and Annie Rivenbark Worrell. She was a homemaker and a member of Liberty United Methodist Church where she participated in the Bible Study Group.

Bonnie W. Whitlock
Liberty — Bonnie Welborn Whitlock, 68, of 102 Norwood Street, died, Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Pendleton, she was the wife of Gary E. Whitlock of the home and a daughter of the late Claude J. and Emmie Wardlaw Welborn, Sr. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and was a member of East Side Baptist Church where she taught the Preschool Sunday School class for 40 years.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Kelley Cox, and Jan Brown and her husband Rick, and a son, Scott Whitlock and his wife Teresa all of Liberty; four sisters, Sybil Andis of Mauldin, Ann Garrett of Greenwood, Linda Bracken, Brenda Atkinson and a brother, Thomas Welborn all of Easley; grandchildren, Hailey and Kayla Whitlock, Kristen Cox, Ethan Brown, and Alexis and Samantha Holliday.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters, Grace Albertson, Betty Black, Louise Nantz, Edna Awl and Martha Welborn; and three brothers, Charlie Welborn, John Welborn and Claude Welborn, Jr.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Catherine Chang and Amy for the care that they have given to Bonnie for the past 5 ½ years.

Brown Bowie
Sunset — Brown Robertson Bowie, 97, of Eastatoee Valley in Sunset, died on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2010.
Born in Eastatoee on Dec. 15, 1913, Mr. Bowie was the son of the late E. Calhoun and Janie Robertson Bowie. Mr. Bowie was self-employed in the home improvement business. His hobbies were farming and gardening. He enjoyed rooting camellias and azaleas and delighted in giving them to friends who shared his appreciation for nature’s beauty.
Surviving are daughter Nancy Martin and husband David of Sunset, niece Linda Bowie and nephews Larry Bowie (Sheri) of Sunset and John Bowie (Linda, son Alex) of Pickens. He is greatly missed by his loving family and devoted friends, all of whom commend to him “a gentle peace for a gentle man”.
He was predeceased by his wife Grace Farr, brothers Boone and Paul C. Bowie, and sisters Pearl McCrary and Maude Bowie.
The family would like to thank the doctor, nurses and attendants at St. Francis Hospital Downtown who for four days cared for Mr. Bowie as if he were their own father.
Graveside service 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2410 Gentry Memorial Hwy., Pickens. Visitation will follow at the gravesite. The Rev. Rance Sprayberry will officiate with eulogy by Dustin Atkins.

Six Mile — Matthew Wayne “Matt” Dransfield, 49, of 250 Whippoorwill Trail, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010.
Born in Pottstown, Pa. he was a son of the late Wesley Dransfield. He was a marine technician at Strickland Marine in Anderson, and was a member of New Image Outreach in Easley.
Surviving are his wife, Janie Matthews Dransfield of the home; a daughter, Molly Jane Dransfield of the home; two sons, Tyler and Zachary Dransfield both of the home; his mother, Grace Price and step father Harry B. Lawrence C. “LC” Dillard

Easley — Lawrence Clifton Dillard, 91, of 1941 Crestview Road, husband of Ruth Pettigrew Dillard, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at his home.
Born in Six Mile, he was the son of the late Lawrence Clifton and Blanche Cox Dillard. “LC” lived and was born in the depression era, he spent many summers of his youth in Jocassee Valley. In 1942, he was drafted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the European Theater. In 1947, he completed his degree from Furman University and sold real estate for The Furman Company for 14 years, and taught Science at J.L. Mann High School for 20 years. He was a member of Easley First Baptist Church. In his retirement, “LC” enjoyed “being” there for his family and working on his farm. An ultimate provider, example and rock-solid advice giver, he displayed a positive cheerful spirit and was always happy to see you. Arguably, his greatest trait was his dedication to his family and ability to forgive countless times. He made his life great and made it count everyday. He was greatly admired by many and will be greatly missed.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years, are six children, Janice Wall of Easley, Anne Vinson of Columbia, Lauren Lorentzen of Atlanta, Lisa Agan of Cartersville, Ga., Robin White of Kingston, Ga. and Robert “Bobby” Dillard of Easley; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Dillard of Greenville.
Mr. Dillard was predeceased by a daughter Linda Dillard and two brothers, Lloyd Dillard and Kyle Dillard.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Entombment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Easley — Larry Dean Harris, beloved husband of Pamela Sue Fulton Harris, died Dec. 15, 2010 at his home in his 54th year.
Mr. Harris was born in Greenville to the late Paul Harris and Zina Gladys Abel Harris. Mr. Harris was a project manager at Holders Body Shop and attended North Fork Baptist Church.

Easley — Lida Childress Finley, 73, of 293 Louise Lake Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late B. Ray and Florence Hendricks Childress, Mrs. Finley was a graduate of Liberty High School and Draughans Business College.  She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, B. Franklin Finley, Jr. of the home; two sons, Robin Finley and Will Finley (Amy), all of Easley; two daughters, Shannon Newbill (Bob) and Amy Wilson (Henry), all of Easley; three brothers, Ben Ray Childress (Lucille), Bob Childress (Margaret), all of Easley and Billy Childress (Janet) of Clayton, N.C.; and eight grandchildren, Ben and Leah Finley, Shane and Alyssa Dosser, Hannah and Weston Wilson, and Jessi and RayAnne Finley. Also surviving is her best friend, Carolyn Hamlin of Easley and a brother-in-law, Paul Pettit of Liberty. 
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Finley was predeceased by a sister, Colleen Pettit.

Carl Fohl Essig, M.D.

Lexington, Ky. — Carl Fohl Essig, M.D., age 91, Lexington, Ky. loving husband and best friend for 37 years to Jeannine P. Essig, died Dec. 13, 2010 at the Leestown VA Hospice.
He was born in Canton, Ohio, to Carl F. and Katherine Jones Essig. He was a graduate of Kent State University (Ohio), and the Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Essig, a neurologist, served his country first in the Army and then as a commissioned medical officer in the U.S. Public Health Service until retiring in 1971. After moving his family to Lexington in 1954, he joined the staff at the Addiction Research Center, which was a part of the National Institutes of Health. The Center was located at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital on Leestown Road, where he conducted research on drugs that affect the central nervous system. He also served as clinical neurologist for the hospital. Dr. Essig published numerous articles in professional journals, presented his research at a meeting of the American Assoc. for the Advancement of Science, and authored chapters in several medical textbooks. He was a member of the American Physiological Soc., and served on the voluntary faculty of the neurology department at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters; Judith (Jerry) Jackson, Noblesville, Ind., Ellen Dotson, Lexington, Ky. and Loris (Gary) Sherman, Somerset, Ky.; a sister, Diane (Oliver) Nealy, Pickens; a stepson, Kerry Tate, Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith; a brother, Roger Essig; and a sister, Audrey Creighton.

Easley — Mildred M. Moody, 86, of 127 Brushy Creek Road, wife of the late Clarence Moody, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 at Rainey Hospice House, Anderson.
Born in Madison County, Ga., a daughter of the late Franklin B. and Beatrice Streetman Mobley, Mrs. Moody was a homemaker and a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, C. Richard Moody (Linda) of Calhoun Falls; one daughter, Linda C. Moody of Easley; a sister, Frances M. Hall of Fountain Inn; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Rev. James B. Grant

Simpsonville — The Rev. James B. Grant, 84, of 127 Circle Drive, died Wednesday Dec. 15, 2010 at McCall Hospice House.
The Rev. Grant was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Julius Walter and Addie Hudson Grant. He was a retired Church of God Minister and a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God and was a member of the Church of God Retired Ministers Fellowship. He formerly taught music schools in the churches. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Laura E. Lewis Grant, of the home; two sons, Rev. Ronnie Grant (Sherry), of Clinton and Roger Grant, of West Union; a daughter, Rhonda Fincannon, of Westminster; two brothers, Cecil H. Grant and Joseph W. Grant, both of Pickens; sisters, Inez Grant, Bertha Townes, Dorothy Dodgens, Elizabeth Eades, Lou Grant and Katie Grant, all of Pickens; grandchildren; Chris Grant (Melissa), Justin Grant, Jessica Grant, Jonathan Fincannon and Seth Fincannon; two great-grandchildren, Laura Beth Grant and Ryan Grant.
The Rev. Grant was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice Couch and Veda Mae Townes; a brother, The Rev. Donald W. Grant.

Rev. Ralph G. Nix
Liberty — The Rev. Ralph Grady Nix, 80, of Liberty, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pickens he was a son of the late Clarence and Hattie Durham Nix. He served as pastor of Memorial Free Will Baptist Church in Michigan for 14 years, and also worked in construction throughout his life.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Watson Nix of the home; four sons, Jerry Nix of Liberty, Glenn Nix of Easley, Dewayne Nix of Liberty, and Tony Nix of Madison Heights, Mich.; three brothers, JC Nix of Simpsonville, Robert Nix of Easley, and Willie Nix of Pickens; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Diane Nix Childress.

Claude E. Beard

Pickens — Claude Edwin Beard of Pickens, died on Dec. 17, 2010, surrounded by his family at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.
Born March 21, 1917, in Norfolk, Va., Mr. Beard was the son of the late Commander Roscoe Wier Beard (U.S. Navy Retired) and Lillian Louise Stell Beard. He was raised in Marble Hill, Ga.
Mr. Beard attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Ga. and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Panama Canal Zone. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  He worked at Poinsett Lumber Company and retired from Platt Saco Lowell in Easley.   He served for 12 years on the Pickens City Council, was a past Board member of the Pickens County Meals on Wheels, and a member of the Over 55 Club and the American Legion.  For over 60 years, Mr. Beard was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He was a member and past President of the Methodist Men’s Club, and a member and President of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a daughter, Martha Beard Shayda and her husband, Paul, of Fairfax, Va.; two sons, Carey L. Beard and his wife, Lucy, of Easley, and David L. Beard and his wife, Virginia, of Greenville; six grandchildren, Mark Shayda and his wife, Katie, of Stuttgart, Germany,  Bryan Shayda and his wife, Mandi, of Mt. Pleasant, Bailey Beard of Greenville, Hall Beard and his wife, Koehler, of Columbia, Elisabeth Beard Anders and her husband, Jason, of Lexington, Laura Beard Allen and her husband, Greg, of Arlington, Va., and four great-grandchildren, Colton Allen, Sullivan Allen, Rowan Anders, and Emily Beard.  Mr. Beard is also survived by a very special first cousin, Dale Sartor Moore, and her husband, Gus, of Resaca, Ga.
Mr. Beard was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Laura Naomi Alexander Beard, and two half-sisters, Bonnie Beard Stoeckel and Dorothy Beard Edison.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 2:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Pickens.  Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens.   
Pallbearers were the grandsons and grandsons-in-law of Mr. Beard. Honorary Escort was the Adult Fellowship Class.

Born in Six Mile, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late William John and Nancy Langley Rampey. She retired from textiles and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Lydia Sunday School Class.
Surviving are three sons, Henry E. “Gene” Jones and Douglas “Doug” A. Jones, both of Easley, and Thomas G. Jones of Liberty; three daughters, Nancy Diane McCoy of Johns Island and Joyce Patricia Allen and Cindy Darlene Childress, both of Easley; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Jones was predeceased by two daughters, Georgia Elizabeth Phillips and Carolyn Virginia Jones; four brothers, Dennis, Jolly, Doc, and Cleo Rampey; and three sisters, Lula Waldrop, Essie Mae Ellenburg, and Lucille Waldrop.

Pickens — Roland A. Patterson, beloved husband of the late Betty T. Patterson, died peacefully Dec. 18, 2010 at Rainey Hospice House, Anderson, in his 86th year.
Mr. Patterson was born in Seneca to the late Barney Guy Patterson and Minnie Bearden Patterson. He was the retired president of Patterson Electrical Company, member of Grace United Methodist Church and Hawley Lynn Sunday School Class, Masonic Keowee Lodge #79, Shriners International – Hejaz Temple, Cannon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, U.S. Naval Reserve, and was a highly decorated honorably discharged WWII U.S. Navy Veteran.
Loving father of Robin McCollum (Phil) of Easley, Tommye Hendricks (Charles) of Pickens, and Katie Bagby (David) of Jacksonville, Fla.; adoring grandfather of Matthew McCollum, Lori Ellenburg (Brent), Sarah McCollum, Andrew Hendricks, and Abby McCollum; brother of Helen Ellenburg (Ralph) and Jack Patterson (Helen).
In addition to his parents he was preceded by a son Nicholas Patterson.

Pickens — Elizabeth Raynell Cater Woodall, beloved wife of the late Derriel Woodall, died peacefully Dec. 18, 2010 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in her 76th year.
She was born in Walhalla daughter of the late Raymond Cater and Artie Vee Logan Cromer. Mrs. Woodall was of the Baptist faith and was retired from the textile industry.

Born in Pickens, he was a son of the late Horace Vernon and Elizabeth Iola Simmons Duncan.  Gerald was a retired Superintendant with Vulcan Materials and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Central — Mary Mattison Weeks, 72, of 154 Briarcliff Road and wife of William J. Weeks, Jr., died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 at her residence.
Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late James Christopher and Lucile Heckle Mattison.  Mrs. Weeks earned a B.A. degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. and a B.A. degree from Clemson University.  She was the author and publisher of three devotional books, Doorknobs, Cups and Saucers and Through It All.   She was a homemaker, a substitute teacher and a member of Walhalla Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, William J. Weeks, III of Clemson; Charles R. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James Ralph Mattison.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Friday at Walhalla Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Vincent Alig officiating.

Clarence Lollis
Liberty — Clarence Leroy Lollis, 80, of 1001 Winding Creek Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Anderson County, a son of the late William Rufus and Lillian Sargent Lollis. Mr. Lollis retired from Piedmont Mechanical and was a member of Fellowship Community Church. He was also a member of the Judson Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are a daughter, Regina Ann Denton of Liberty; two grandchildren, Tonya Michelle Harris and Sammy Olin McClain, Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Weaver, Madison Harris, Destiny McClain, and Logan Harris.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Fred Lollis.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Pelzer.

Deborah Roach
Easley — Deborah Fisher Roach, 59, of 505 Jessica Court, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at her home.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Edward and Eunice Belk Fisher, Mrs. Roach retired from the Pickens County Library System and was of the Baptist faith. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Terry Roach of the home; a son, Chris Fisher of Easley; a daughter, Kayla McCollum of Easley; two sisters, Donna Garrett of Easley and Rita Hughes of Tybee Island, Ga.; two step-daughters, Gidget Jones and Chasity Rosemond, both of Conestee; seven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. 
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roach was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Fisher.
Her life was celebrated at a memorial service which was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at her residence.

Betty O. Cantrell
Central — Betty Owen Cantrell,76, of 212 Mountain View Drive and widow of Johnny Cantrell, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at the Rainey Hospice House of Anderson.
Born in LaFrance, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Christine Head Owen.  She was a retired employee of Michelin, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Freedom Fellowship Church.
Surviving are a son, John Richard (Richie) Cantrell, Jr. and wife, Missy; and two daughters, Deedee Cantrell and Barbara Gillespie all of Central; three grandchildren, Briana Barrett and husband, Michael; Brooke Cantrell;  and John Richard (Trey) Cantrell III; and one great-grandchild, James Michael (J-Mike) Barrett.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m., Sunday at Freedom Fellowship Church. Burial followed in Memory Gardens in Clemson.

Kenneth Stansell

Easley — Kenneth LaFoy Stansell, beloved husband of Catherine Corn Stansell, died peacefully Dec. 3, 2010 at Westside Living Center in his 90th year.
He was born in Pickens County to the late Jackson Keith Stancell and Winnie Chappell Stancell. Mr. Stansell was a retired superintendent from Sloan Construction Company, a devoted member of Park Street Baptist Church and an honorably discharged and decorated WWII veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son Keith Stansell (Mary) of Charleston; daughters Delores Stansell Pearson (Jerry) of Oakwood, Ga., and Ann Stansell Johnson (Ken) of Waleska, Ga.; grandchildren Tracy Gasull (Tony), Heather Taylor, Cassie Field (Mike), Sara Stansell, Lee Judy, and Wade Judy; great grandchildren Hannah, Rebecca and Andrew Gasull, Lacey and Brooklyn Field; brothers Houston Stancell and Roy Stancell; sister Kate Stancell Carmen.
In addition to his parents he was preceded by wives Gladys Tompkins Stansell and Elisabeth Bumgardner Stansell; four brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral service 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial with military honors in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens. Pallbearers Scott Stancell, Steve Owens, Rudy Stancell, Aron Collins, Derrill Owens, and Larry Owens.

Mac Garrett
Easley — Samuel “Mac” Garrett, 66, of 204 Joan Drive, husband of Floree Cantrell Garrett, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Edna Bolding Garrett. Mr. Garrett was the owner of Donnie’s Taxi in Easley. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, The Golden Rule Sunday School Class, and Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor Coffee Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 48 years, are three children, Kela Garrett Stewart (Eddie) of Rock Hill, Kelli Garrett of Charleston, and Thomas Mac Garrett (Ann) of Easley; two grandsons, Mitchell Garrett Stewart (Lianne) of Fort Mill and Dylan Preston Stewart of Rock Hill. Also surviving are three sisters, Della Black (Jack) of Pickens, Ladelle Boggs (Lloyd) of Greenwood and Sandy Phillips (Clyde) of Easley; a brother, Pat Garrett (Karen) of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a sister-in-law, Jenny M. Garrett of Greenville.
Mr. Garrett was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Charles Garrett.
A celebration of Mac’s life was held on Monday, Dec. 6 at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Tabatha Kelley
Central — Tabatha Renee Kelley, 14, of 946 Norris Highway, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Easley, she was a 9th grade student at Liberty High School. She was involved with competition cheerleading at Carolina Power Tumbling in Easley, and loved animals. She attended Fellowship Community Church.
Surviving are mother & father, Priscilla and Jason Sutherland; two brothers, A.J. Kelley and Cody Sutherland of the home; a sister, Mariah Copping of Liberty; grandparents, Marion & Vickie Rollins of Central; a great grandmother, Nettie Mae Rollins of Central; several aunts and uncles, Lesley Rollins, Blair & Pam Bethke, Andy Branyon, Kevin Branyon, Chris Branyon, Jeff Martin, Shane Sutherland, Jamie Sutherland, Tonya Franklin, and Heather Manley; and numerous special friends.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Tabatha will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
The family will be at the home of her great grandmother, Nettie Rollins, 945 Norris Highway, Central, SC.
