County athletes sign with colleges

Pickens girls drop third straight in loss to Rams

PICKENS — After coming back from an early 10-point deficit, the Pickens girls’ basketball team looked to hold off the fourth-ranked Westside Rams on Senior night hoping they could end a two-game losing skid in their final game of the regular season.

However, a 21-4 run spanning the last minute of the first half and the first five minutes of the third quarter was too much to overcome for the Blue Flame as they fell 57-45 for their third straight loss.

County schools open basketball playoffs this week

COUNTY — With the regular season coming to a close last week, six county basketball teams will begin their push toward a state championship this week.

Boasting the county’s lone region champions, Daniel High School opened the playoffs on the hardwood on Tuesday.

The seventh-ranked Daniel girls (14-9, 9-1 Region 1-3A) opened the playoffs by hosting Broome, while the sixth-ranked Daniel boys (19-7, 9-1) took on Chapman.

Red Devils to take on Chesnee for upper state championship

LIBERTY — The Liberty Red Devil wrestling team took two big steps toward defending their Class 2A wrestling championship over the last few days by taking down Landrum and Ninety Six to open the wrestling duals playoffs.

EASLEY — After letting an early lead slip away, the Easley girls’ basketball team went into the locker room against the fifth-ranked Pickens Blue Flame in danger of dropping its fourth straight game.

EASLEY — After a tough loss to Pickens, the Easley girls’ basketball team returned home last Tuesday looking to get back on track against the Berea Bulldogs.
