LHS wrestlers dominate state individual meet

Lions fall short at Upper State

FLORENCE — After failing to advance beyond the regular season last year, the Daniel High School girls’ basketball team found itself ahead of schedule in advancing all the way to the Class 3A Upper State championship game this season.

Lady Lions down Patriots to advance to third round for first time since ‘14

Patriots end Lions’ season

CENTRAL — Boasting a one-point halftime advantage over the fourth-ranked Powdersville Patriots, the Daniel boys basketball team just needed to hold on for 16 more minutes in order to advance to the Class 3A quarterfinals for the third consecutive year.

Instead, the sixth-ranked Lions came out of the locker room flat allowing the Patriots to go on a 14-0 run that they were never able to overcome in a  72-59 season-ending loss.

Touchberry named next Daniel athletic director

CENTRAL — Daniel High School didn’t have to look far for its new athletic director, as a familiar face was selected to lead the Lions’ athletic programs according to a release from the school last week.

Ben Touchberry has been selected as the next Athletic Director. This announcement follows the resignation of Tommy Plumblee, current Athletic Director, at the end of the 2023-24 school year, the release said.

Lions celebrated at State House

COLUMBIA — Two months removed from their Class 3A state championship win over Camden, the Daniel High School football team travelled to the state house last week at the invitation of South Carolina House of Representatives District 3 representative Jerry Carter.

The Lions were presented with a resolution adopted by the House recognizing the team for being the 3A State
