• Holy Cross Church plans RCIA session

Holy Cross Catholic Church has begun RCIA sessions for instructions and growth in Christ.

Those who have ever wondered what the Catholic Church teaches and why are invited to join for questions and discussion. Classes are held in the church basement at 558 Hampton Ave. in

Pickens from 9:30-11:15 a.m. on Sundays.

• Meal on Wheels Glow Run is Oct. 21

The Pickens County Meals on Wheels 5K Glow Run fundraising event with a glow attire contest will be held on Oct. 21 starting at 7 p.m. Awards will be given to first- and second-place runners. • Pickens High Class of 1972 to reunite

The Pickens High School class of 1972 is planning a 45-year reunion. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 4-8 p.m. at Looper’s Barn, located at 101 Laurenwood Drive in Pickens.

Prime rib with accompaniments will be served for $21 per person. Entertainment will also be provided. Mail check or money order in the amount of $25 for the meal, rent and entertainment with Pay to the Order of to: Kathy Grant Gilstrap, 132 Triple D Drive, Pickens SC 29671.

There will be a Facebook page built for classmates to add helpful information and locate other classmates. Graduating is not a requirement to attend. Just being a part of the 1968-1972 group of students is validation.

• Meal on Wheels plans Casino Night

Pickens County Meals on Wheels’ Riverboat Casino Night fundraiser is set for Nov. 4, starting 7 p.m. The event will also feature an auction at the McKissick Center for Senior Wellness in Liberty. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased on the Pickens County Meals on Wheels Facebook page or pcmow.org/events or by calling (864) 606-3745.

• Lynch descendants reunion set Oct. 21

The descendants of Capt. William Lynch will hold their semi-annual reunion Saturday, Oct. 21, at Holly Springs Baptist Church. The reunion will run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with a potluck lunch served at noon. For more information, contact Harold or Martha Lynch at (864) 915-1957.

• Literacy group needs old books

The Pickens County Literacy Association is collecting books for the Semi Annual Used Book Sale to be held Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Pickens Presbyterian Church Social Hall. Book collection sites are listed on the PCLA Facebook page for Pickens, Easley, Liberty, Central and Clemson. • Porter reunion set for October 8

Descendants of Philip and Mary Smith Porter are invited to the annual Porter reunion on Sunday, Oct. 8, at Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church. The gathering will start at 12:30 p.m. at the church family center, and lunch will be at 1 p.m. Utensils will be furnished, so just bring well-filled baskets and enjoy meeting old and new cousins.

This year marks the 185th year of the founding of Porter’s Chapel Church (in 1832) and a project is underway to write a definitive history of Phillip Porter and his family’s role in the beginning and continuing involvement with the church. Any photos, documents or oral history concerning the church are requested, and any knowledge of sources and their locations will be appreciated. Family historical information and documents will be on display and can be shared.
