COLUMBIA — After weeks of double-digit death numbers, Pickens County added nine confirmed COVID-19 deaths over the past week.

According to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, eight of the nine people who died in the six-day period from last Wednesday to Monday were elderly, while one was middle-aged.
