PICKENS — Pickens County Council passed a resolution in honor of Pickens County’s surviving prisoners of war this month, and two survivors were on hand for the vote.
Council passed the resolution during its Oct. 7 meeting in honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day.
County council chairman Roy Costner read the resolution aloud before the vote.
The rights and freedoms that Pickens County residents enjoy are not free, the resolution said.
Those freedoms “come at a cost to our patriots throughout our history, including sacrifices by those service members who were taken as prisoners of war,” Costner said.
