COUNTY — Pickens County Emergency Management Officials are asking for public input as they prepares to revise the county’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Residents of Pickens County are being asked to complete a web-based questionnaire which will allow Emergency Operations officials to determine the awareness level of both man-made and natural disasters. Results of the survey will assist officials in the development of mitigation activities designed to assist citizens in the event of a disaster.
“Citizen feedback is a vital piece to the development of a solid hazard mitigation plan,” said Denise Kwiatek, Pickens County Emergency Management Coordinator. “Our number one focus is and has always been the safety and well-being of all who live and work in Pickens County. With this information, we can determine where we need to focus our efforts.”
Completion of a Hazard Mitigation plan is a requirement of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 outlined by the Federal government. The development of the plan has the potential to lower insurance rates for home and business owners. All surveys need to be completed by May 17.
