• United in prayer for life event planned

On Thursday, March 21, Cornerstone Christian and Music Store will present a special service “Uniting in Prayer For Life” from 7-9 p.m. This will be a participatory program of worship, repentance, communion, scripture reading, silent and spoken prayers for our country and its unborn citizens, led by Erica Raeh. All are invited.

Cornerstone Christian and Music Store is located at 1895 Gentry Memorial Highway, Easley (Solid Gold/Dalton Flats).

• PCLA plans spring book sale this month

The Pickens County Literacy Association’s annual spring book sale is scheduled for March 29-30 at the Pickens Presbyterian Church social hall.

This year, the PCLA has a large number of DVDs, cookbooks and fiction divided by popular authors.

Hours will be from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, March 29, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. Grab bags of paperback books will be available once again, and Saturday will also feature a $5 box sale.

In Pickens, the Pickens County Courier office on Garvin Street is a new dropoff location for book donations, in addition to Blue Ridge Co-op, the Grace Methodist social hall and Pickens Savings and Loan.

In Easley, there are collection boxes at Custom Cleaners and Kelley Pharmacy. In Liberty, books can be left at AnMed Health Cannon Liberty Family Practice at 105 Liberty Blvd. In Central, there are two locations — Central Town Hall and the Central-Clemson Recreation Center.

In Clemson, books are being collected at Family Medical on College Avenue, Excel Rehab at 501 Forest Lane and Columbo’s Pizza on Pendleton Road.

All books are accepted, both hardback and paperback, but organizers ask that no encyclopedias or magazines be donated.

• Kings Grove plans community yard sale

Kings Grove Baptist Church, located at 1335 Old Seneca Road in Central, will host a community yard sale from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on March 30.

Those interested can rent a space for $10 to sell their own goods and keep the profits, or items may be donated for the church to sell and keep the profits.

All money raised will go toward helping send the church’s youth on a mission trip to Kentucky. There will also be hot dog plates for sale, along with a bake sale.

• Research program set for local library

“Researching African Americans in the War Between the States” is the title of a program at the meeting of the James L. Orr Chapter UDC this Friday, March 15, at 3 p.m., Central-Clemson Library, 105 Commons Way, Central. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available. • Quilters Guild to meet on March 26

The Upcountry Quilters Guild will meet Tuesday, March 26, at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at Pickens Presbyterian Church, located at 311 W. Main St. in Pickens. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the guild is invited to attend.
