• First responders honored in Central
Central and Bethel United Methodist Church, located at 722 W. Main St. in Central, will sponsor a community appreciation day for first responders from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. Free meals — chili and cornbread or hot dog plate — will be provided to first responders and will be available for sale to the public, with proceeds going to local charities in Central, Clemson and Pendleton. The cost of the meals range from $4-$6.
• Bahá’ís planning 200th celebration
Bahá’ís of Pickens County and Upstate South Carolina will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Báb, the Prophet and herald of Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, from Oct. 26-30. In honoring the spirit of the occasion, local Bahá’ís have been increasing their personal visits to share prayers with friends. Other activities for the celebration in Pickens County have included luncheon programs in July and September and will include a dinner program on Monday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m. For details, the public may call (864) 855-2072. • PCLA to hold book sale this weekend
Pickens Presbyterian Church will be hosting a book sale this week to benefit the Pickens County Literacy Association. The sale, which will be held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, includes hardback, paperback, inpirational, cookbooks, health, craft and childrens books, CDs, DVDs, tapes and much more. • Amazing Grace planning yard sale
There will be a churchwide yard sale this Saturday, Oct. 26, starting at 8 a.m. at Amazing Grace Fellowship, located at 229 Pearl St. in Pickens. There will be men’s, women’s and children’s items, plus more.
• WPO offers chance at monthly fellowship
The Widowed Persons Organization (WPO) organization is not a grief therapy group, but it does provide an opportunity for widowed persons to come together, make new friends and share conversation and food while finding a new beginning in life. The group meets on the second Saturday of every month at 1 p.m. in the fellowship building of Lakeview Baptist Church on Mauldin Lake Road in Pickens. • Keowee Baptist to hold annual revival
Keowee Baptist Church will host a revival from Sunday to Wednesday, Nov. 10-13, starting at 7 p.m. each night.Preacher Rick Hayes will be preaching. Everyone is invited. • Pack 51 scouting for new Cub Scouts
Do you want to be a Cub Scout? Cub Scout Pack 51 meets every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens. Cub Scouts is open to all youth in 5K to fifth grade.
