• Pickens Lions need your help on Sept. 7

The Pickens Lions Club has joined South Carolina’s Adopt-A-Highway program to help keep local roads clean and will be on “Litter Patrol” this Saturday, Sept 7. The Lions are in charge of S.C. Highway 8 starting at Walgreens in Pickens and ending at Pickens Animal Hospital. The Lions are looking for volunteers to help with the effort. You do not need to be a member of the club, just have a passion to help keep Pickens. Safety vests and garbage bags will be provided. Call Brian at (864) 507-3146 to get more information.

• Jones Hill set to host Chinese auction

Jones Hill Church of God will host a Chinese auction on Saturday, Sept. 21. Located at 1014 Dalton Road in Marietta, the event will include hot dog and bake sales and drawings for the auction. Ticket and hot dog and bake sales will begin at 11 a.m. Auction and drawings will begin at 1 p.m.

• Gilstrap reunion planned this weekend

The Gilstrap reunion will be held at the Antioch Baptist Church fellowship building on S.C. Highway 11 this Saturday, Sept. 7. Family members are asked to bring a well-filled basket. Plates and cups will be furnished. Lunch will be at around 1 p.m.

• Hootenanny set for Pickens Halloween

Pickens’ Trick or Treat on Main, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5-9 p.m., is taking on a new form for the 2019 Halloween season.

This year, the celebration will offer more of a party and festival atmosphere. “Trick or Treat on Main” is morphing into the “Pickens Halloween Hootenanny” and will take place at the Pickens amphitheater.

There will be booths, just like before, and they will be spread throughout the amphitheater grounds. The booths, again sponsored by local merchants and organizations, will have Halloween-themed activities and games, handing out candy and prizes.

Also new this year is the Pickens Lions Club partnering with the Pickens Revitalization Association to host the Halloween celebration.

• Six Mile Baptist to host homecoming

Six Mile Baptist Church, located at 149 N. Main St. in Six Mile, will have its homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 15.

The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Special music will be proved by Tugaloo Holler. The event will provide preaching, singing, food and fellowship.

• Winchester reunion planned for Sept. 15

The annual Winchester reunion will be held at the Shady Grove Baptist Church fellowship building at 2901 Shady Grove Road in Sunset on Sunday, Sept. 15, beginning with a meet and greet at noon followed by a business meeting at 12:15 p.m.

If a family member has passed since September 2018, contact Thaylia Oberstar. Each family is asked to bring food and drink. Ice will be provided. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.
