• Huge yard sale set for Amazing Grace
Bargain hunters will have an opportunity to find a deal at the big indoor yard sale at Amazing Grace Fellowship Church this Saturday, Aug. 8. The event will be held in the the church’s fellowship building, and hundreds and hundreds of great items will be available. Amazing Grace Fellowship is located at 228 Pearl St. in Pickens. Everyone is asked to wear a mask at the sale.
• Church leaders summit is August 12
Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County (BHSPC) and the Steppin’ It Up Coalition invite Pickens County church leaders to the Road to Recovery Through Christ Summit, which aims to educate them about the opioid problem in Pickens County. Each church is invited to send one or two people to the summit. Summit speakers include baseball legend Darryl Strawberry, Southern gospel musician Joseph Habedank and area pastors Gary Edwards and Darian Blue.
The summit will take place on Aug. 12 from 9 a.m.-4 pm. at Southern Wesleyan University. There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided. The facility will be set up for social distancing, and masks will be provided to attendees. Attendees are asked to be a part of the Steppin’ It Up Coalition for at least a year. The coalition’s mission is to give Pickens County youth the knowledge motivation and support to combat the temptations of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

• Pickens Lions plan meetings each month
The Pickens Lions Club is in need of new members. The club meets the first and third Thursday of every month at Pizza Inn in Pickens. Dinner begins at 6:40 p.m., and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.
Meetings are open to anyone interested in joining the club or simply finding out more about the club and how it serves Pickens.
