Gene Abercrombie

PICKENS — Robert Eugene Abercrombie, 85, husband of Pauline Roper Abercrombie, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017.

Gene was born in Six Mile, a son of the late Robert Harrison and Cora Lee Thompkins Abercrombie. He was retired from Ryobi Motor Products in Pickens as maintenance supervisor and he was a member of Secona Baptist Church. He was a member of BoBo Ridge Beagle Club and formerly owned his own shop, Gene’s Garage.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Pauline of the home, daughters, Gloria Jean Turner, Debra Ann Evette (Dan), and Donna Lynn Daves (Douglas) all of Pickens, four grandchildren Amanda Nicholson (Bradley), Matthew Turner (Renee), Lacey Chappell (Jonathon) and Jonathan Daves (Jessica), 11 great-grandchildren and a brother Charles William Abercrombie of Pickens.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister Martha Emma Stone and brothers, Bobby Joe Abercrombie and Fred Elton Abercrombie.

Funeral services were held Nov. 26 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Mary C. Marcus

EASLEY — Mary Cardelia Marcus, 74, wife of Dennis Jack Marcus passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Salem, Mary was a daughter of the late Rev. Davie and Velma Wilson.

Survivors include her husband of the home, three children; Mark Marcus of Easley, Barry Marcus of Pickens, Ricky Talley of Highlands, N.C.; five grandchildren Shirley (Dee) Marcus, Dianna Marcus, Sarah Marcus, Dennis Marcus, Michael Marcus; three step sons Howard Marcus, Tim Marcus, Lane Marcus; eight step-grandchildren, three precious great-grandchildren; Brayden, Austin, Kaden; two sisters Lena, Brenda; and a brother Medford.

Mary was Past Worth Matron Order of Eastern Star Chapter 200.

Graveside services were held Nov. 28 in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley, officiated by Rev. Delbert McCall.

Betty P. Burrell

GREENVILE — Mrs. Betty Parker Burrell, 83, wife of the late Thomas Heyward Burrell, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, Nov. 24, 2017.

Born in Cherokee County, the daughter of the late Hoyle Clarence and Alice Miller Parker, Mrs. Burrell was a graduate of Gaffney High School and attended Cecil’s Business College. She was a homemaker and a member of Welcome Baptist Church, Anderson.

Surviving are a son, Michael Adams of Anderson; a daughter, Cindy A. Hyde (Tommy) of Greenville; a brother, Bobby Parker of Gaffney; five grandchildren, Jamie Mountain (Brian), Julie Floyd (Lee), Amy Owensby (Scotty), Josh Adams and Michael Keith Adams; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 26 in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Mitchell L. King

PICKENS — Mr. Mitchell Lawrence King, 53, husband of Laura Gillespie King, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He fought it with a neverending smile.

Born in Pickens County, a son of Lou Ellen Richard King of Pickens and the late Garlon Lawrence King Jr., Mr. King was employed with the State of South Carolina School Bus Transportation and a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Mitch loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but his greatest love was his family and grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 24 years and his mother, are his four children, Michelle Crowe (Kenny) of Pickens, Tamela Bonham (Anthony) of Slater, Becca Duncan (Shane) of Pickens and Travis Galloway (Cassidy) of Charleston; two brothers, Anthony King and Thomas King (Becky), all of Pickens; a sister, Iris Bagwell (Tub) of Pickens; six grandchildren, Anthony Bonham, III., Kent Crowe, Allie Crowe, Griffin Duncan, Millee Duncan and Landon Galloway; and his Fur Baby, Smokie.

Funeral services were held Nov. 28 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

James David Ernest Sr.

PICKENS — James David Ernest Sr., 89, husband of Nellenne Lackey Ernest, passed from this life Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Ernest was born in Oconee County, a son of the late John H. and Effie Good Ernest. He was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force and to have been a Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Ernest was also proud of his time as a truck driver, and being a member of Gilead Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years of the home, sons; Terry (Alice) Ernest of Simpsonville, Jimmy Ernest of Pickens, grandchildren; Nathan (Jillian) Ernest, Jonathan (Jen) Ernest, Jason Beal, Bethany (Aaron) Schoup, Jarrad Beal and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ernest was predeceased by his parents, a daughter Cindy Beal, one brother and seven sisters.

A memorial service to honor Mr. Ernest’s life will be announced in the near future.

Chevis Eddie Pelfrey

PICKENS — Eddie Pelfrey, 67, husband of Anne Durham Pelfrey, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017.

Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Hubert and Sarah Stewart Pelfrey.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years of the home; sons, Jeff (Jamie) Durham of Liberty, Matthew (Danni) Durham of Virginia Beach, Va., Steve (Amanda) Durham of Pickens, and Joshua (Ashley) Pelfrey of Six Mile; 12 grandchildren; a special great-granddaughter Addison Durham, raised in the home; three other great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dale Pelfrey.

Eddie was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Morris Pelfrey.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Cerelle Mureida

Shultz Tolleson

GREENVILLE — Cerelle Mureida Shultz Tolleson, 59, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017.

Cerelle was born in Columbia City, Ind., the daughter of Jackie and Marjorie Shultz.

Cerelle is survived by her husband, Jim Tolleson; five stepchildren: Mandy (Chris) Molloseau, Amber, Davis, Jarod, and Wesley Tolleson; her father and his wife: Jackie and Shirley Shultz; five siblings: Oonagh Panosian, Shaugn Shultz, Dane Shultz, Kofie Silos and Destrie Shultz; numerous beloved nieces and nephews, and countless other adopted nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.

Early on Nov. 21, our beloved Cerelle entered heaven, to spend the rest of eternity with her Savior, Jesus Christ.

The celebration of life for Cerelle Tolleson was held at Pickens View Wesleyan Church in Pickens on Nov. 23.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the following organizations in Cerelle Tolleson’s name: Hope Grows Here Fund-Alive Wesleyan Church (Central, SC), Table Rock Wesleyan Camp and The Wilds Christian Camp.

Frank “Bug” Childress

EASLEY — Frank Junior “Bug” Childress, 67, of Pecan Court, husband of the late Linda Nold Childress, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late John Frank Childress and Marie Durham Childress.

Bug was retired from Metromont Materials in Greenville. He was a member of West End Baptist Church and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, golfing and shooting pool.

Surviving are his children, Michelle Bridgman (Zach) of Pumpkintown, Chris Childress (Kayla) of Easley, Tara Lanier of Liberty, and Cody Childress of the home; grandchildren, Zachery, Haley, Karsen, Reid, Hunter, Jayde and Caydyn; a great grandchild, Piper; a sister, Linda Burrell (Charles) of Seneca; and a brother, Bobby Childress (Linda) of Easley.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Flowers will be accepted. The family will be at the home.

Virginia Alleen Patton Baker

EASLEY — Virginia Alleen Patton Baker, 69, wife of Donald W. Baker of 127 Baker Road in Easley, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Oliver Junior Patton and Hazel Roach Patton. She was a homemaker.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, James H. Baker of Liberty and a granddaughter, Tori Lynn Serna of Easley. A son Paul Allen Baker and a sister Gwendolyn Rose Patton Hester predeceased her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, from 1-2:30 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:45 p.m. in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Lawrence Keever officiating.

Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Billy Ray Wardlaw

PICKENS — Billy Ray Wardlaw, 71, husband of the late Doris Jean Thompson Wardlaw, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017 at AnMed Health Cannon Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, Billy is a son of the late Lee Andrew and Blanche Hanley Wardlaw.

Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Wardlaw Cox, Donna Wardlaw Leamey and Sara Spearman; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother; and one sister.

Billy was predeceased by his parents; his wife; a son, Andy Wardlaw; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; two brothers; and a sister.

Services for Mr. Wardlaw will be private and held at a later date.

Erlean P. Orr

Easley — Mrs. Erlean Pridmore Orr, 86, wife of Jewel Paul Orr, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Brookdale, Easley.

Born in Anderson County, the daughter of the late James Walter and Maude Long Pridmore, Mrs. Orr retired from Bausch and Lomb, Inc. and was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 65 years, are two sons, John Timothy Orr (Crystal) and James Paul Orr (Tammy), all of Easley; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Orr was predeceased by a sister, Maree Smith.

Don Stillwell

EASLEY — Charles Donald “Don” Stillwell, 81, of Upward Way, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Charles Nelson Stillwell and Beatrice “Mama Bea” Kelly Stillwell McNeely.

Mr. Stillwell was a graduate of Parker High School, where he was captain of the football team. He retired from Duke Power and was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church in Taylors. Don was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving are his wife of the home, Mildred Jones Stillwell; children, Charles Kelley Stillwell (Janit) of Easley, Bryan Keith Roach of Williamston, Steven Eugene Roach (Pam) of Piedmont, Mary Donna Harbach (Larry), Beverly Dawn McGee and Cynthia Diane King (David) all of Easley; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Jimmy Lee Stillwell and a daughter-in-law, Dee Roach.

Services were held Nov. 22 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown Easley, with a graveside service following in Graceland East Memorial Park in Simpsonville.

Thomas “Ben” Miller, Sr.

EASLEY — Mr. Thomas Benjamin “Ben” Miller, 75, husband of Adele Riddle Miller, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at his home.

Born in Polk County, N.C., a son of the late Thomas Wilder Miller and the late Maude Penola Hudgins Miller, Mr. Miller retired from BI-LO with 22 years of service and attended Wayside Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 21 years, are three sons, Thomas Benjamin Miller Jr. and Timothy Andrew Miller, both of Florida, and Steven Eric Miller (Trena) of Piedmont; a daughter, Pamela Miller Kinsey (Don) of Florida; a brother, David Miller (Anita) of North Carolina; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Miller was predeceased by a sister, Sybil Yates.

Robert E. “Jack” Patterson

PICKENS — Mr. Robert E. “Jack” Patterson, Sr., 91, of Pickens and husband of the late Mrs. Helen Bryson Patterson, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at his home.

Born on June 16, 1926, in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Barney Guy and Minnie Bearden Patterson, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Patterson worked for the Singer Company for 32 years before his retirement. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Pyro. Mr. Patterson was also a member of the USS Pyro Association.

Surviving are his daughter, Ann (Bill) Westbrook; son, Robert (Sharon) Patterson Jr.; grandchildren Suzanne Logan, Laura Westbrook, BJ (Anna) Westbrook, Kathy Patterson and Angel Trotter; great-grandchildren, Bryn and Cadie Westbrook and Emily and Charlise Trotter, and special friends Bonnie Lusk and Charles Perry.

Mr. Patterson was also predeceased by his brother Roland Patterson and sister Helen Ellenburg.

Funeral services were held Nov. 25 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. Bobby Stewart officiating and burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Nellie Sue Boggs

EASLEY — Nellie Sue Boggs, 82, wife of the late Billy John Boggs, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Olin and Elizabeth Ellenburg Smith.

Mrs. Boggs was a homemaker and member of Northside Baptist Church in Pickens. She loved her family dearly, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, growing flowers and cutting her grass.

Surviving are her children, Kay Boggs Cole (Jimmy), Sheila Garrison (Barry) and Carolyn Horn, all of Easley; grandchildren, Steve Crenshaw (Alicia), Mandy Durham (Steven), and John Horn (Amanda); great grandchildren, Gracie Nell Crenshaw, MaddieAnn Crenshaw, Jordan Carter, Eli Horn, Ethan Horn and Easton Horn and Christian Durham; and a great-great granddaughter, Madison Claire Durham.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Buford Horn.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the caregivers and Dr. Calvin Snipes and his staff for the compassionate care and support shown to Mrs. Boggs’ during her illness.

Norman “Nob” Davis

LIBERTY — Norman B. “Nob” Davis, 77, of 211 Posey Hill Road, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Liberty, he was a son of the late William Carl and Mary McKinney Davis. He retired from Platt-Saco Lowell and was a member of Fellowship Community Church. During his free time he loved to go to yard sales and spend time with his family. He was a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge #235 AFM, where he was past master.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda G. Davis of the home; a son, Mike Davis (Angie) of Liberty; a sister, Ann Smith of Easley; five grandchildren, Jennifer Coon (Jon), Trae Padgett, Tyler Davis, Ethan Nix, and Lauren Nix; also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Davis Nix.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Davis were held Nov. 25 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel, with burial following at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
