EASLEY — Christie Smith, 64, of 125 Woodberry Circle, wife of E. W. “Bill” Smith, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at her home.
Born July 16, 1948 in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Grady and Mildred Hill Smith. Mrs. Smith was employed with her family’s business, Lewis Plaza Pharmacy until her retirement and she was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband of 47 years, she is survived by her daughters, Lisa Bishop and Michelle Patterson; son, Jason Smith; sister, Sandra Mote; grandchildren, Casey Bishop, Colby Jewell, Derek Patterson and Tanner Smith; and great-grandson, Brody Patterson.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road with the Rev. Johnny Touchet officiating. Entombment followed in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens.

BILLIE RICKARD ROSS
EASLEY — Mr. Billie Rickard Ross, 84, of 114 Meeker Ct., husband of the late Elizabeth McKave Ross, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born Aug. 9, 1928 in Albemarle, N.C., he was a son of the late Carlos and Mattie Carter Ross. Mr. Ross retired from Aero Jet General and was member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Ross was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his daughters, Elaine Max, Sandra Timmerman (Larry) and Carol Ross; brother, Charles Ross (Lou); five grandsons and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, Rickard Ross.
Services will be private.

EASLEY — Gwendolyn Adkins “Gwen” Vaughan, 83, wife of the late Walter Lee Vaughan, Jr., died away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at Mountain Home Health and Rehab in Hendersonville, N.C.
Born in Greenville, to the late Haskell and Bernice Cassell Adkins, Mrs. Vaughan graduated from Easley High School and immediately started working for Stone Manufacturing where she was a Production Control Manager. She was a member of Berea Friendship United Methodist Church since 1956, where she was a member of the Huckabee Sunday School Class. When she wasn’t working, Gwen’s favorite past time was sewing.
Surviving are a son, Andrew Vaughan (Jan); a granddaughter, Diane R. Sentell; two great-grandchildren, Patty and Wyatt Sentell; and two sisters, Carolyn Lark, and Jacqueline Bagwell.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Renee Lisa Vaughan; and a sister, Katherine Foster.
A memorial service was 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 at Berea Friendship United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Brown officiating.

EASLEY — Mary Hall Peace, 90, of 311 Katie Lane, wife of the late Jiles W. Peace, and formerly of Calhoun Falls, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at Homewood Assisted Living.
Born in Calhoun Falls, a daughter of the late G.O. and Carey Poore Hall, Mrs. Peace was a homemaker and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Verone Peace (Teresa) and John W. “Jack” Peace, both of Easley; a daughter, Marie Peace Partridge (Bob) of Asheville, N.C.; two sisters, Alice Lawton of Cleveland and Martha Peace of Calhoun Falls; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Peace was predeceased by two grandsons, Brian Partridge and Vince Peace, and by two brothers.
Graveside services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Forrest Lawn Memorial Park in Abbeville.

EASLEY — Mr. William “Bill” Stonewall McCall, 93, husband of Lila Mae Holliday McCall, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Brevard, N.C., a son of the late Jake and Annie Nelson McCall, Mr. McCall retired from EMC and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Surviving are two daughters, Katheleen P. McCall of the home and Kathereen P. Spencer of Greenville; one brother, Walter McCall, of Burlington, N.C.; two grandchildren, Perry Spencer and Lisa Ann Spencer; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McCall was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2012 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

SARA A. SNOW
PICKENS — Sara Anderson Snow, 92 of Pickens died Jan. 1st after a brief illness.
The widow of the late Isham Snow, she was a lifelong resident of Pickens County, born in the Oolenoy Valley to the late James Earle Anderson and Mattie Alma Jones. Mrs. Snow was a direct descendant of Cornelius Keith, original settler of the Oolenoy Valley in Pickens County in the mid 1700’s and is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Snow retired from the Easley Textile Company after 35 years as a tucker and applique machine operator. She was a lifelong member of Oolenoy Baptist Church. After retirement she enjoyed the company of her own family and church family for many years.
Mrs. Snow is survived by a daughter, Millie Gilcrease, sons, James V. “Jim” (Cherie) and Phillip (Caroline) Snow, all of Pickens. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Scott Gilcrease, Steven (Jane) Gilcrease of Pickens, Jimmy (Judy) Snow of Greenville, Elizabeth Snow Satterfield of Pickens, and Jason (Gretchen) Snow of Greenville. Additional survivors include thirteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Thelma Anderson Huff and Emelyn Anderson Conner, one brother, James Welch Anderson and a granddaughter, Georgette Snow.
The family wishes to thank Josephine House and Juanita Robinson for their faithful and loving care given to our mother which allowed her to continue to live in her own home for the past two years as well as the staff of Station A of Cannon Memorial Hospital for their tender and precious care of our mother during her stay there.
The celebration of life service was held at Oolenoy Baptist Church on Friday, Jan. 4th at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Derril Robinson and the Rev. Carroll Plemmons. Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.

LIBERTY — Vance Marion Bailey, 30, of 529 Cassell Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of Hugh T. Bailey, Sr. and Ann Taylor Bailey of the home. He was a graduate of Liberty High School in the class of 2000 and served six years in the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Kristen Bailey Lopez(Joel) of Williamston; two brothers, Hugh T. Bailey, Jr.(Helen) of Greenville and Brent Bailey of Easley; his grandparents, W.M. and Margaret Taylor of Clemson; several aunts and uncles, Jim Taylor of Charlotte, David Taylor(Sheila) of Newnan, Ga., Jane Sargent (Phil) of Easley, and Allen Taylor of Liberty; nieces and nephews, Hugh T. Bailey, III, Jennifer Bailey, Bailey Lopez, and Eli Lopez.
Funeral services to honor Vance’s life were 3 p.m. Friday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

VERNON MAHAFFEY
LIBERTY — Vernon Floyd Mahaffey, 87, of 600 Old Norris Road, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Liberty he was a son of the late Sylvester and Essie Carpenter Gilstrap Mahaffey. He was a retired supervisor from Greenwood Mills and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. Mr. Mahaffey was a lifelong member of Calumet Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Duncan Mahaffey of the home; two sons, Billy Mahaffey(Janis) and Terry “Ted” Mahaffey(Darlene) both of Seneca; a brother, the Rev. Jack Mahaffey of Easley; grandchildren, Jason Gillespie of Easley, Kimberly Mahaffey of Seneca and Staci Gilbert of Greenwood; and five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Faye Mahaffey, a sister, Hazel Mahaffey, and four brothers, Stan and Heyward Mahaffey, and J.B. and Glenn Gilstrap.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Mahaffey were 11 a.m. Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

PICKENS – Phillip Allen “Phil” Pace, 64, of Pickens, died on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.
Phil was born in Pickens, a son of Pauline Reeves “Polly” Bagwell Pace of Pickens and the late William Hancel “Hank” Pace. Phil was employed with American Cable Co. and was retired from Roadway Express. He was a member of Pickens First Baptist Church and had served in The National Guard.
Survivors include his mother, Polly, of Pickens, daughter, Mandi Pace of Piedmont and son Matt Pace (Brandy) of Pickens. Also surviving is his beloved companion, Mary Wallis of Pickens, grandchildren Gage Pace and Meredith Turner, the mother of his children, Kathy Hayes Pace Brooks of Greensboro, Ga. and his brother, the Rev. William H. “Bill” Pace of Newport Richey, Fla.
In addition to his father, Phil was preceded in death by a brother, Barry Dennis Pace.

PICKENS — Mrs. Lou Ellen Jones, 94, wife of the late Dewey Lee Jones, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at her home.
Born in Kingstree, a daughter of the late John Henry and Nellie Huggins Mouzon, Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Alton Jones of Pickens, Jimmy Weston of Pickens and Johnny Weston of Woodruff; one daughter, Nancy Darnell of Easley; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Jones was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters.

EASLEY — Mrs. Peggy Smith Loggins McKee, 69, wife of Randell Cornelius McKee and the Late Johnny Henry Loggins, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at Rainey Hospice House, Anderson.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Elijah Smith of Seneca and the late Mildred Chapman Smith of Easley, Mrs. McKee was a homemaker and a member of Tremont Church of God.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of the home, are two sons, Ricky Dale Loggins (Wanda) and Randy McKee (Doreen), all of Easley; two daughters, Pamela Loggins Mason of Six Mile and Kimberly Pickens (Michael) of Simpsonville; two brothers, Marshall Smith (Jean) of Easley and Larry Smith (Kathy) of Williamston; her twin sister, Patsy Gibson of Easley; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

EASLEY — Linda Casey Wigington, 72, of Easley, wife of the late Frank Wigington, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Greenville County, Mrs.Wigington was a daughter of the late William Sims Casey Jr. and Velma Stone Casey. She retired from Anderson School District One after 30 years of teaching and was a member of the ADK sorority and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Sue Shafer (Don) of Easley and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

EASLEY — Terry W. Caldwell, 72, 109 Avalon Circle, husband of Teresa (Suzy) DelPozzo Caldwell, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at McCall Hospice House.
Born Nov. 11, 1940 in Greenville County, he was a son of the late James and Grace Wiggins Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell attended Clemson University and Limestone College. He retired from General Electric as an operations manager and was a member of Arial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Brad Caldwell (Cindy), Nick Caldwell (Floride), Frankie Ingram (Teresa); daughters, Terri LeGrand (Charlie), Gracie Wilson (Brad), Dottie Rhodes (Billy) and Lulu Winchester (Chip); grandchildren, Meghan Caldwell, Zac Caldwell, Anna Catherine Caldwell, Caroline Caldwell, Mary Helen Caldwell, Abigail Caldwell, Payton LeGrand, Kaleigh Winchester, Brooke Ingram, John Ingram, Marie Caldwell, Tommy Rhodes, Sophie Wilson and Cooper Wilson.

EASLEY — Iva Cecil “Steve” Stewart, Jr., 60, husband of Annette Porter Stewart, died Jan. 1, 2013 at MUSC in Charleston.
Born in Greenville to the late Iva Cecil Stewart and Lavon Trotter “Bonnie” Stewart, Steve was a graduate of Easley High School. After high school, he went on to be a CNC Machinist for Saco Lowell and GE. Mr. Stewart was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church where he was an active Usher, a member of the Sign Committee, on the Building and Grounds Committee, and the Fellowship Committee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing for largemouth bass, Clemson football, and Duke basketball, but most of all he was a loving husband, a caring father, and a devoted grandfather.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Steve “Scooter” Stewart, III (Dawn); a daughter, Crissy Stewart; four grandchildren, Chloe Hooper, Alana, Jay, and Charity Stewart; and three sisters, Linda Ramey, Darnel Corley, and Leslie Mayer.

EASLEY — Helen Stansell Owen, 73, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, of 101 La Vista Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late William Abner and Grethel Cantrell Stansell, Helen was employed with Family Practice Associates of Easley with 22 years of service. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where she belonged to Inspiration Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her husband, David “Hub” Owen of the home; two sons, Tim Owen and Sammy Owen (Melissa), both of Easley; three brothers, Mack Stansell, and Ralph Stansell, both of Easley and Wade Stansell, of Powdersville; three sisters, Olive Surratt and her twin sister, Ellen Sponsler, both of Easley, and Linda Davis of Mauldin; four grandchildren, Haily Chapman, Johna Owen, Raigan Owen and Carter Owen; and a great-grandson, Owen Crouchman.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Owen was predeceased by a brother, Carl Stansell and a sister, Lucille Smith.

LIBERTY — Heather Nichole Lynn Roper, 25, of 102 Indian Creek Court, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
She was an avid reader whose favorite book was “The Last Walk”, she also loved writing, drawing and music.
Surviving are her mother and step father, Tammy Aiken Kostick and Steve Kostick of Liberty; a brother, Michael Aiken of Liberty; aunts, Tina Connick of Florida, and Teresa Chapman of Six Mile; a niece and nephew, Riley Ladson and Bryson Aiken; a very special friend, Donnis Parker.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Shirley Hawkins Cope and a brother, Christopher Roper.

EASLEY — Beatrice Holcombe Gantt, 73, of 105 Powers Drive, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at her home.
Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Parley O. and Mary Finley Hester Holcombe, Mrs. Gantt was formerly employed with Mayfair Mills after which she was a homemaker. She was of the Christian faith.
Surviving are her husband, Luther C. Gantt of the home; four sons, William F. Gantt (Cindy) of Liberty, Kenneth W. Gantt (Margaret) of Hayesville, Kan., Donald R. Gantt (Kathy) of Taylors, and Greg Gantt (Sharon) of Six Mile; two brothers, Johnny Holcombe of Pickens and JRoy Holcombe of Easley; five sisters, Elizabeth Gibson of Pickens, Verebell Jameson of Greenville, Bertha Patterson and Earlene Roper both of Easley, and Jewell Durham of Gaffney; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

EASLEY — Pearl Wardlaw Pelt, 87, formerly of Old Liberty Road, wife of the late William Howard Pelt, Sr., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Regency Hospital.
Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Jerome and Irene Smith Wardlaw, Mrs. Pelt was a homemaker and a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, William Howard Pelt, Jr. (Debbie) of Easley; James Floyd (Jean) of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Darlene Stoddard of Athol, Mass.; a brother, J.C. Wardlaw; and seven grandchildren, Mitzi Burgess, Jamie Floyd, Anthony Shannon Floyd, Joseph Lynn Floyd, Sherry Hodnett, Sharon Roberts, Michael Malpass, and Patrick Stoddard.

DOROTHY W. JAMESON
EASLEY — Dorothy Williams Jameson, 86, of 2535 Earls Bridge Road, wife of the late Jack Dempsey Jameson, and daughter of the late Norman and Kate Latham Williams, died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013.
Born and raised in her much beloved community of Dacusville, Mrs. Jameson was a graduate of Furman University and taught elementary education for 35 years, predominantly in the Pickens County School District. She was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church and thoroughly enjoyed her “Care & Share” group until her illness. Mrs. Jameson served as a member of the Volunteer Auxiliary at Palmetto Health in Easley where she enjoyed serving at the Information Desk greeting her many friends and former students.
Mrs. Jameson is survived by her son, James Lake Jameson of Easley and her daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Jim Nichols of Humble, Texas. She also has three grandsons, and their wives, Scott and Anne Nichols of Nosara, Costa Rica, Christopher and Courtney Nichols of Missoula, Mont., and Travis and Ashley Nichols of San Francisco, Calif. She has four great-grandchildren, Jackson (5), Malin (3), Amelia (3) and Hanley Nichols (2).
Mrs. Jameson was preceded in death by her beloved brothers and sisters, Ola Faye Williams, E. Wayne Williams, Vonnie Couch, Kathryn Jameson, Charles R. Williams and N.B. Williams.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the loving and caring staff of The Willows of Easley, Emeritus of Greenville (Memory Care Unit) and PH Healthcare Hospice. They also wish to thank the many visitors and her church members who brightened her days during her illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cross Roads Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Jameson Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

GAIL MERCK
LIBERTY — Gail Annette Merck, 48, of 109 Forest View Circle, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at her home.
Born in Columbia she was a daughter of Mildred Patterson Merck and the late Ray Merck. She attended Daniel High School, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother of Pickens is a brother, Hal Merck and his wife Janice of Sunset; a special niece, Halle Merck of Sunset; and a special cousin, Susan Melton of Liberty.
A service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family will be at the home of Al and Susan Melton, 511 Hunter Mill Road, Liberty SC.
