Hilda “Hoot” McCall
Easley — Hilda LaVerne Gillespie McCall passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Anderson, she was the widow of J.D. McCall and a daughter of the late Lonnie and Lessie Gore Gillespie.
She owned and operated Hoot’s Bar & Grill in Pickens for many years, and she also owned and drove her own race car at multiple racetracks across the Upstate.
Surviving are a daughter, Carla McAllister (Ronnie) of Greenwood; two sisters, Betty Gillespie and Margaret Cockrell, both of Newberry; a brother, Lonnie Gillespie Jr. of Enid, Okla.; a grandson, Kyle Rivers (Kayla) of Greenwood; and two great granddaughters, Kamryn and Katelyn.
Graveside services to honor the life of Mrs. McCall were held Oct. 1 at Bishop Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Douglas R. “Doug” Wise
PICKENS — Douglas R. “Doug” Wise, formerly of Pickens, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.
Doug was born Dec. 5, 1946, in York, Pa., to the late Robert A. Wise and Marie Fullerton Wise. Doug was raised in Pasadena, Calif., and graduated from Pasadena High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably on the USS Oriskany during the Vietnam War while deployed to the Gulf of Tonkin. Doug was on board the ship when it was stricken by a fire that threatened to sink her. Later, while on an inspection trip into Danang, his plane was shot down. In both instances Doug escaped injury. When honorably discharged from the military, he was employed as a truck driver, logging well over 2 million miles without a chargeable accident.
Doug’s last job was with SCDOT, where he worked for five years, befriending many fellow employees. After retirement, he devoted the majority of his time with his grandchildren, who he loved dearly and spoiled completely.
Mr. Wise is survived by a his son, Brian (Yadira), of San Diego, Calif.; his daughter, Shannon DeLoria (Justin), of Piedmont, Calif.; five grandchildren, Miles and Isabel Wise of San Diego and McKenzie, Trystan and Hailey DeLoria of Piedmont; two brothers, Nathan Wise and his wife Miranda of Upland, Calif., and Robert Wise (Cynthia) of Easley.
Doug was very fortunate to have many dear friends living in Pennsylvania, California, Idaho, Virginia and South Carolina. A few of the special ones were Darren and Dawn in Pennsylvania and Carlos and Debbie Sams of South Carolina. Doug was passionate about life, loving his family, NASCAR, drag racing and storytelling. He enjoyed a keen sense of humor his entire life, and anyone who ever met Doug knew within a few minutes he could spin a yarn or tell numerous jokes in a heartbeat. The gift endeared him to all. Doug was a Christian and in his last days referred to Christ as his “buddy.”
A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 501 Rampey St., Easley, SC., on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. Final interment will be at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.

Roger W. Reeves
Easley — Roger Wayne Reeves, 58, passed away on Sept. 27, 2017.
A native of Spartanburg County, son of Ernest “Earl” and Margie F. Reeves of Sunset and the late Ruby Daphine Lawrence Reeves, he was a retired carpenter and iron worker and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are one brother, Ronald E. Reeves of Lyman, and one sister, Pam Holtzclaw of Greer.
A private service will be held at a later date.

Burnett Garnet Roper
Easley — Mr. Burnett Garnet Roper, 82, husband of JoAnn Nalley Roper, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017.
Born March 2, 1935, in Gainesville, Ga., a son of the late Elbert Voyle and Viola Chapman Roper, Mr. Roper was a graduate of Liberty High School and retired from a long career in the textile industry. He was an active member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Garnet was an avid fan of Clemson football and baseball and old Western movies, black and white, and silent.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 64 years, are three daughters, Diane R. Huff (George) of Greenville, Candice R. Shealy (Dale) of Fountain Inn and Allison R. Knight of Easley; three brothers; a sister; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and his beloved dogs, Bailey and Cody. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roper was predeceased by four brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services were held Oct. 1 at Fairview United Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society, The Kidney Association or to the Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

Robert Pelligrino
Easley — Robert Paul Pelligrino, 57, husband of Sheryl Barlage Pelligrino, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, following an extended illness, on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017.
Born in Milwaukee, Wis., a son of the late John and Alice Morgenroth Pelligrino, Robert graduated Magna Cum Laude from Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and was last employed with Day & Zimmermann Engineering in Greenville.
Robert was an active member of Alive Wesleyan Church in Central.
Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of 34 years, are his son, Robert Paul Pelligrino Jr.; his daughters, Bethany Joy Pelligrino (Adam Jones) and Lydia Hope Pelligrino; his grandson, Gray Paul Jones; his brother, John Pelligrino (Marlene); his sister, Diane Pelligrino (Von Berrier); his sister-in-law, Yftu Pelligrino; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale Pelligrino.
Funeral services were held Sept. 30 at Alive Wesleyan Church in Central, with burial following in Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley.

Geneva M. Waldrop
Easley — Geneva Martin Waldrop, 94, wife of the late John “J.P.” Phillip Waldrop, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017.
Born in White County, Ark., the daughter of the late Hiram and Rothie Soper Martin, Mrs. Waldrop retired from Stayon and was a charter member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Sunshine Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Louise Waldrop of Easley; 12 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Waldrop was predeceased by six brothers, B.J., Paul, Edwin, Orfa, H.C. and Dick Martin; and three sisters, Virginia Moser, Doris Taylor and Audrey Seibert.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3 at Pendleton Street Baptist Church, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Buck Rich
Dacusville — Leonard Franklin “Buck” Rich, 87, of Sawtooth Oak Lane, husband of Jean Nicholson Rich, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Leonard Elmer Rich and Cordelia Griffin Rich.
Mr. Rich was retired from General Heating. He was a member of Nine Forks Baptist Church, a Mason with the Sam Poe Lodge No. 284 A.F.M. and was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Rich enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and helping anyone in need in the community of Dacusville. Following retirement, he was known as a “consultant” for the Dacusville community.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 60 years, are a daughter, Lynn Rich Kunkle and son-in-law Willie Kunkle of Clemson; and grandchildren, Amanda Kunkle and her fiance Josh Caron, and Frank Kunkle.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Nine Forks Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-1:45 p.m. on Wednesday in the church sanctuary.

Mary T. Robinson
Easley — Mary Margaret Tripp Robinson, 80, of Pelzer Highway, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy “Dot” Smith Tripp.
Mrs. Robinson was twice married, first to the late Claude Eugene Robinson and secondly to Wade Hampton Robinson of Piedmont. She retired from Woodside Mill in Easley and was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church. She loved her family and traveling.
Surviving are her children, Claude Michael Robinson of Columbia and Jo Ann Robinson Lovell of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Christopher Lovell, Stephanie Lovell and Kristian Claude Robinson; great-grandchildren, Lilly Cowart, Alayah Romero and Natalia Romero; and a sister, Kitty Tripp Speed of Aiken.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was predeceased by a son, Kent Warren Robinson; a sister, Sarah Tripp Brown; and a brother, Harold “Junior” Tripp.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in Westview Cemetery in Easley.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2-2:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. Flowers will be accepted. The family members will be at their respective homes.
